"Cause to fight for"? More like a cause to panhandle for, judging from the tip jar in the corner.
My "consumerist way of life" is exactly what fills your group's grubby little hands held out to those with jobs as you beg for cash. My taxes pay for your freedom to inconvenience New Yorkers as you please just to "get media attention."
What is pathetic is the incredible sense of entitlement of these people.
They are lying down in traffic on 1st Avenue in Manhattan (unbelievable) probably because it would be difficult for Tibetans to collect NY state benefits/food stamps (i.e., leech off of the American taxpayer) if they actually protested outside of the United States.
The Tibetan "temple" slash immigration halfway house doesn't pay taxes. Why on earth would they want to be anywhere else?
Why are these protesters inconveniencing New Yorkers for heaven's sake? Shouldn't they be trying to inconvenience Chinese and lying down in Chinese traffic?
Or do they want us to do that for them as well?
So tired of Americans paying the bill for solving the problems of others.
And the thanks we get is being told "We have the right to lie in traffic on 1st Avenue. It's near the UN."
The sense of entitlement of these protesters is something else.
Then again, if these Tibetan protesters are collecting welfare and food stamps in addition to their under-the-table tax free jobs selling Made in China trinkets the other 6 days of the week. they don't really need to worry about things like being arrested and police records.
"I'm sorry, I couldn't come in to work on Monday. I got arrested again for lying down in 1st Avenue with the intention of inconveniencing as many New Yorkers as I could in order to get them to support our cause."
What a rational strategy for generating support for your cause.
If these Tibetan protesters are unable to afford to live on the East Side of Manhattan, they have not earned the privilege of blocking traffic for the people who worked long and hard to be able to afford to do so.
Do these people have professional jobs? What kinds of jobs would allow for time off due to police incarceration?
Pretty amazing how some people are arguing that they have the right to disturb the peace in someone else's neighborhood.
Blocking traffic on 1st Avenue on a weekend in front of a closed UN building doesn't inconvenience the people you are protesting one bit. It does, however, create a huge public burden for the people in the neighborhood.
It's always easier to protest and block traffic in someone else's neighborhood, isn't it.
@Emiko415 It's about getting the media's attention, that's what its all about....you'll understand once you have a cause to fight for...for the meantime, go enjoy your pathetic, consumerist way of life.
Nearly all other protest groups I have seen have the decency to keep the noise level to a minimum and to not block traffic (good heavens!) out of courtesy to the people who actually live here.
So much NYPD overtime, billed to the taxpayers of NYC.
Why are these protesters--who are likely on welfare or food stamps or both--being so inconsiderate to the residents of the neighborhood they are clearly visiting?
Emiko, a resident of sutton place? you've done your research well, troll or probably a chinese or an apologist to china. Tibetans don't use benefits and stamps. get to know the tibetans personally. they have organizations here, go to them.
Did you know see what i typed in previous comment? protests happen of every issue related to freedom or foreign nations. there were protests from burmese activists, jews, university students against ahmadinejad, ugandan protestors. everybody protests here.
As a resident of Sutton Place, it is an outrage that these protesters--who are no doubt busy collecting New York State and city benefits and food stamps--have the time to spend their weekends this way.
If Tibetans were local residents here, then I would give them a pass. But they are not. And it is taxpayers like myself that support their lifestyle.
The NYPD knows which side its bread is buttered on. 1,000 simultaneous noise complaint calls from the local residents of the neighborhood will not and must not be ignored.
The trash and filth these protesters left behind as the streamed away in the SUVs and cars was so horrendous that a Sanitation truck was on station just to clean up their sloth.
it is the united nations. everyone has a right to protest. lots of protests happen here from burmese protest to ghadafi's arrival. what is a savage in your terms miss emi or emiko? if the white elites happen to just live in these fancy apartments its their fault. this is a very political area where all sorts of protests happen.
It is a neighborhood called Sutton Place on the East Side of New York City, inhabited by taxpayers of this good City who work extremely hard from Monday to Friday in order for the honor of living here.
How dare you imply that the affluent residents of this neighborhood should both have to bear these out-of-towners ruining their Saturday and Sunday, but pay for the cleanup of the filth they left behind afterward.
Incredible how these NON-New Yorkers decide to make a daytrip to someone else's neighbrhood to make a huge nuisance of themselves, bringing their little children along with them to the protest, and filling the trash cans with their excrement because they didn't go to the bathroom on the Turnpike before driving into Manhattan.
Go protest in your own neighborhoods instead of forcing us residents of affluent, upscale White neighborhoods to bear your noise and filth.
i believe that all you haters need to wake up. The tibetans are peaceful people. Look at how they protest. Without violence. they use the nonviolent act of civil disobedience, while china uses the selfish acts of violence just to make their economy flourish. for the negative remarks against the tibetans, think about how it would feel if you were in their position. wake up, do research, and grow a heart.
Some of the comments that I really feel as very selfish!. They protest for their own Country and the Chinese took Tibet as illegal. Now now no one can support Tibet because China has a worldwide economy. Its a shame. Because of the economy, the World let Tibetan die and torture every single day in Tibet.
From that vidoe, ti shows that NYC cops so happy to grab these people and especially a monk and throw them in jail. WOW! Now it shows the same taste as Burmese Government!
Fuck off you tibetan exile religious fanatic. How dare you use our good soil for your theocratic agenda. We here in the USA adhere to a belief and separation of church and state. If you can't respect that then go back to dharamsala where you belong.
@Emi916 - You're disgusting. These tibetan people are not savages. They march and show civil disobedience because of the fact that they have no power any where else than America. In this country we have the rights to free speech, so give them that right. No one will listen any where else. Their families and friends are being killed by the selfish country of China, and that's something everyone needs to realize. If your family was being killed, youd do the same. so do your research before u speak
You stupid fucking idiot. If there was truly rights in this country to protest than why are these fanatics being lead away? Do a little research into the patriot act and tell me how free we are. Fuck Free Tibet and lets free ourselves before chosing to support a theocracy in the 21st century. Moron!
So I see we have to take the pieces of shit from other countries again. They come here stir up shit and you dumb fucks say oh support them... I'm tired of our taxes going to pay for worthless people.
I think most Zang ethnic minorities (Tibetans) activists, living outside of their motherland, China and a small number inside China, including a small minority of Western sympathisers have realized that they have lost a lot of respect in the International Communities today. The disruptions of the Olympic Torch, The Beijing Games, The riots in Lhasa, Xizang (Tibet) province of China in March 2008, and many other disruptive demonstrations had been condemn by people worldwide. Peace to the world.
DOnt get me wrong. I wish no one had to die. But you cant ask for that and say "THiS person or groupwill fix all of OUR problems."
its illogical. Thats why so called leaders(political GODS) can promise EVERYthing EVERYTIME and deliver NOTHING EVERYTIME and you STILL GO OUT AND VOTE instead of going out and hunting for yourself. But I am far over your heads. Go back to the barn sheeple, its a lot safer there. U get angry but after that beg the master for scraps and loans.
Y do U people think it makes any difference? The fact that people WILLINgly give their power over to nation-states is proof that the masses (sheeple) want to NOT HUNT or BE RESPONSIBLE and want to be FED and tucked in at night by the state. SO u protest and go back to taking out loans (which results in war), and being a slave to the state. FOOLS. and I love how u all have the illusion of freedom. Protesting is a sign of slavery. Silent Weapons for Quiet Wars. Silent Weapons for Quiet Wars.

It definitely accomplished a massive traffic jam up the Upper East Side. I suppose that is something.
I wonder if their supervisors on Monday would consider being arrested for that an acceptable excuse for taking a sick day, however.
Oh wait, I forgot. They neither have jobs nor pay taxes.
