One of my professors said that the best translation of the Bible is the one that keeps you reading (excluding the bibles of cults such at the New World Translation). For me, it's the ESV. Unlike the KJV or the NASB, I can read the ESV without getting a headache and this study bible really is an amazing resource. I use it often as a ministry student at my bible university.
@Grayrock667 , I think the study bible really is a neat resource. There is a lot I like about the ESV, I use it generally as a supplement. My biggest problem with "word for word" translations is ......I don't know why they need to remain rigid in structure and archaic in language in order to remain word for word. I genuinely prefer the NIV'84 and NLT. I think they translate really well in terms of modern English. I don't know really to go since the NIV'84 IS going to be off the shelfs soon.
Or neither of you has to be in error. The KJV is really hard to understand because of the difference between language, and how not many people nowadays say "thee"s and "thou"s, so the KJV is not the modern day preference. However, there is now the NKJV and the HBSC, which was transalated straight from the dead sea scrolls and other historical scouces. So yeah, it's all preference.
We all have our own opinion, but unfortunately one of us has got to be in error being that we have a discrepency pertaining to the sacred scriptures. It you are one of the elect, I pray the most High guides your properly to the right choices & keeps you
Why are calfskin Bibles so expensive? I mean, I want one (Cause they feel cool and are pretty much indestructible)

King James Version is the purest form of the Bible in ENGLISH
this looks and sound nice, but would you want "stuff" taken out of your Bible?

I want stuff in the greek and hebrew translated correctly... something the KJV does not do as often as the ESV.
