Most cops are persuaded by government propaganda more than the average citizen and especially those with military background. No, I don't get the feeling of patriotism when I see a "support our troops" bumper sticker.
I worked with a homeland security officer who spoke of people dying from smoking weed while he stood there smoking a cigarette and shared stories about himself drunk driving. Talk about hypocrisy. Maybe just irony because he's too uneducated to be considered a hypocrite.
The cop says the drugs cause the kids to live in terrible conditions when actually prohibition driving the cost of drugs through the roof is what causes the kids parents to be poor, and the people to use hard drugs like heroin are already fucked up long before they started using shit like that. LEGALIZE Cannabis!!!
my kids live a great life, they have everything they need, i smoke outside and away from my kids, and i probably make 70gs a year, i dont smoke at work but enjoy one a night when on my own time
We are grown adults living in a "free" country. No where in the constitution does it say it's the government's job is to tell us what to eat, drink, smoke or grow.
Look how the cop spins it and says that it's bad for the kids because they would be living in 'deplorable conditions' however forgets that the kids who are CURRENTLY experiencing those conditions are even worse off NOW because of their silly war!
i wish police would realize that legalizing drugs would actually reduce the amount of users and would reduce overdose rates because all drug users would be known and tracked and when they came to get their legal drugs, the people giving them the drugs would encourage rehab and the such. making drugs illegal just puts everything underground. alcohol kills many, yes. but it killed many many more when it was made illegal because it became unregulated and more dangerous...
That cop oppsed to it is completely mislead. Legalizing drugs is not the same as promoting drug use. Drugs are here to stay, whether they're legal or not. But federal regulation gets it out of the hands of school kids and puts the cartel in serious financial jeopardy.
The doctor in this video is an idiot.Use the brain that apparently god you through med school to think about what your saying for a second
Do some people missus illegal drugs like others abuse alcohol or perspiration drugs? Sure. But clearly not everyone who uses these substances is an addict. But what it really comes down to is prohibition does not work. In fact countries where drugs are legal have lower usage levels. Plus the money can go to good causes like funding rehab instead of criminals
residea, think you need to look on Google and get the meaning of Calamus, and pot is what you cook on in your kitchen, just like Marijuana is mex cig, Natural Herb with seed inside itself, made from God, not Man
I hate my state, Oklahoma is terrible. It's not progressive in the least, tattoos were illegal here until, what, 2006? Pornography isn't legal here at all, it will be one of the last, if not THE last to legalize and regulate cannabis much less any other recreational drug. You must remember, Jim Inhofe, a member of this lovely state's senate, believes the earth is flat, and that LGBT persons don't deserve equal rights, a prime example of the kind of people you'll meet in this pit.
God Said to Moses Exodus chapter 30 vs 23 take thou also unto thee principal spices, of PURE myrrh five hundred shekels, and of sweet cinnamon half so much even two hundred and fifty shekels, and of 'SWEET calamus two hundred and fifty shekels, People who Want calamus legal are 100 percent correct, those that do not want it legal but say they belive in god are 100% hypocrites
The addicted in prison truth is: We want them to have self-worth So we destroy their self-worth We want them to be responsible So we take away all responsibility We want them to be positive and constructive So we degrade them and make them useless We want them to be trustworthy So we put them where there is no trust We want them to be non-violent So we put them where violence is all around them
Wes Johnson is the man!!! Legalize and tax cannabis!! Why are we continuing to vote these dumbass elected officials into office that stand firmly against the idea of ending prohibition?? Next election lets please ensure to make our voice heard!

Our prison States arm their soldiers! In a cycle, are you blinded to learning from created past unbalanced worlds? Obama, I helped elect . . . But it is time to stop being a president and become the LEGEND you were meant to be . . .
My cousin was a crew boat captian when he was busted for posession. He did four years then after leaving prison he was not allowed to run the boat so he became a carpenter prior to the arrest he always had money worked regularly and his family never wanted for anything. To say drug use causes poverty is retarded what cause dmy cousins poverty was having a posession record and not being allowed to pilot a 100 ton motor vessel.
You know if cops truly want to keep kids safe and parents jobs easier to keep their kids drug free then they would want to support Controlling Drugs, Regulating drugs and taking the profit out of the sale of drugs. No they are letting all that control and profit from drugs go right into criminals hands the same hands that don't card or ask for ID when they sell to our kids!
Keep our kids safe, ask your legislators to regulate and control drugs, Prohibition never has worked and we all know it!
Now that's refreshing. The drug debate in my opinion is over. All of the positives/negatives are obviously well known, and clear-cut. Just politics now....Which in itself is an uphill battle regarding any issue, even if its beneficial to the taxpaying citizen. Legalize the shit, and these predatory, uneducated bums can crawl back into their grandmas house, and stop making a warzone out of our street corners...Make them fucks get jobs!!!...
Of course that cop doesn't want drugs to be legalized, then he would have to go fight real crimes.
Also, is it helping kids living in deplorable conditions to separate them from their parents by arrest? By taking even more money out of the pocket of the parent in fines and court costs? These people need help, real genuine help, and locking them in a cage and treating them like criminals is obviously not working.

This reporting is completely biased, It uses logical fallacy to slant the opinion away from the group. What kind of statement is "No REAL police officers would support the legalization of drugs" for a reporter to make?
I think you will find the conservative Officer (local to the position of the billboard) being interviewed to provide a two-sided perspective to the story was the person making that comment, not a reporter. It is definitely biased, but not to that extent. With this issue, I feel any publicity is good publicity and the educated and open-minded among us will see the bias for what it is. I am a proud member of LEAP and support more action in this form of public exposure to the group's activity...
The man opposed to the billboard; his only point is that "...drug addiction forces children to live in deplorable conditions..." and gives no examples or facts.True : When a mother is addicted to drugs and has children they will most likely "live in deplorable conditions". When you take a serious step and allow law abiding citizens to partake in their drug of choice, taking illegal sales out of the hands of gangs and criminals, you will see is that most illegal and problematic drugs like crack,
will dissipate. Each drug must be regulated in their own class. Crack as suck would be regulated to the point where you could not use it daily and lead a normal life. Those trying to still push it will go to jail and those truly abusing the drugs will get help for their addiction, not thrown in jail. This is the idea behind allowing people to be free and make their own decisions.
What? The cops want to mind business that's only theirs?! They're suppose to play the bad guys! Now who are all those druggies going to run from? I'm not legally in my right to chase them. :-( This stinks.
Mark Woodward with the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics has a real incentive for denouncing this. His funding relies on this war on drugs that has not done anything to stop or hurt the drug trade.
Agreed, and anyone who is more concerned with their bottom line than the people they are supposed to be protecting, do not deserve to have their funding.
legislators with half a brain is setting the bar way too high. If we could just get legislators with at least two working brain cells, the drug war will be over today.
Most problems that stems from drugs can actually be linked to prohibition and artificially inflated prices of drugs. Much of the physical damages that are supposedly caused by meth and heroin are actually caused by addicts willing to spend more money on drugs than food.
"This might give the impression that the police are in favor of legalizing drugs."
Well, I'd say that the existence of LEAP shows that at least SOME of the police do! Why bother keeping up the facade? (Oh, right. Irrational legislators could reduce their funding if they don't.)
They should be in favor of legalising at least some of them. While I don't agree Heroin or Meth should be legalised as they are pure poison, others can be used safely if they would just teach the truth instead of flat out lying to the public.
hate to tell you this but an alcoholic is more likely to die during detox than a heroin user. all drugs (especially drugs cooked up in laboratories) should be legalized so that quality, manufacture and distribution can be regulated.
farming of the plants that certain pharmaceutical grade drugs are derived from should be legal. morphine and codeine are derivatives of the poppy plant, the coca plant has several medical attributes and cannabis has NEVER caused a single death from overdose.
I don't know how your research discovered data that somehow substantiates your assertion concerning detox. Having a vast history (inc. personal detox.) with both substances at extreme levels provides experience that questions the statement, although the amount of conflicting research on all matters related to substance use means misinformation is all-too-common and understandable. The reason they are "poison" is because some idiot would use them for recreation, at an unknown dose. No different than hydrocodone, in the scientific sense. But, to heck with science! Let's let emotions run the show. Even if legalized, we need a plan to make sure it was handled right.
The idea is all or none, make everything including tobacco and alcohol illegal or legalize everything. You can't pick and choose otherwise nothing will change.

@Nataraja13 very biased reporting, i certainly agree. funny how the current cop was concerned about the message and ignored the fact that some LEAP members have more years experience of the drug war than he does.
The billboard just says prohibition is bad. Doesn't necessarily mean we need to treat heroin like alcohol, but we do need to find a way to make both drugs and substance abuse treatment readily available, ideally in the same location. Drug clinics where you can get your fix from a liscensed physician who will take some time and talk to you about the negative consequences of what your doin and let you know counselors are waiting down the hall if you wanna quit.
Sadly, I feel the approach you suggest is already available to the majority of addicts- I'm personally involved in a program that provides exactly what you recommend. Although successful to a degree and certainly a valid method of applying treatment options, it fails to address the amazingly broad array of issues that prohibition presents. I urge you to read extensively and research the topic from a variety of credible and unbiased sources, inc. LEAP's own collection and personal testimonials...
I surprised to learn that something like that exists, but not surprised that I'm surprised. Before policy can change I think that the idea that substance abuse is a moral issue has to be corrected. I watched a DEA agent and news reporter accost a public health worker for providing info to IV drug users on sterlization. People dont understand drugs and fear them cause they see it all wrong. LEAP is very clear about their message regarding prohibition so Woodward is being disingenuous .
Wes Johnson is right, legislators have to have a half brain to grasp the legitimacy of ending drug prohibition.
Woodward seemed more concerned about job security, the scenario he portrays (about children) is the result of the drug
criminalization and if he is not bright enough to grasp that then he shouldn't have a badge.
