Most cops are persuaded by government propaganda more than the average citizen and especially those with military background. No, I don't get the feeling of patriotism when I see a "support our troops" bumper sticker.

I worked with a homeland security officer who spoke of people dying from smoking weed while he stood there smoking a cigarette and shared stories about himself drunk driving. Talk about hypocrisy. Maybe just irony because he's too uneducated to be considered a hypocrite.

My cousin was a crew boat captian when he was busted for posession. I think you will find the conservative Officer (local to the position of the billboard) being interviewed to provide a two-sided perspective to the story was the person making that comment, not a reporter. Most problems that stems from drugs can actually be linked to prohibition and artificially inflated prices of drugs. Much of the physical damages that are supposedly caused by meth and heroin are actually caused by addicts willing to spend more money on drugs than food.

hate to tell you this but an alcoholic is more likely to die during detox than a heroin user. all drugs (especially drugs cooked up in laboratories) should be legalized so that quality, manufacture and distribution can be regulated.

farming of the plants that certain pharmaceutical grade drugs are derived from should be legal. morphine and codeine are derivatives of the poppy plant, the coca plant has several medical attributes and cannabis has NEVER caused a single death from overdose.

Having a vast history (inc. personal detox.) with both substances at extreme levels provides experience that questions the statement, although the amount of conflicting research on all matters related to substance use means misinformation is all-too-common and understandable. Legalizing Drugs!?

The billboard just says prohibition is bad. Doesn't necessarily mean we need to treat heroin like alcohol, but we do need to find a way to make both drugs and substance abuse treatment readily available, ideally in the same location. Drug clinics where you can get your fix from a liscensed physician who will take some time and talk to you about the negative consequences of what your doin and let you know counselors are waiting down the hall if you wanna quit.

Although successful to a degree and certainly a valid method of applying treatment options, it fails to address the amazingly broad array of issues that prohibition presents. I surprised to learn that something like that exists, but not surprised that I'm surprised. Before policy can change I think that the idea that substance abuse is a moral issue has to be corrected. I watched a DEA agent and news reporter accost a public health worker for providing info to IV drug users on sterlization. People dont understand drugs and fear them cause they see it all wrong. If it were seen as a health issue there'd be understanding, and the possiblity of treatment not punishment.
