Beautifully flown, elegant graceful totally under control, I would rather watch this type of flying than the erratic 3D type flying even thou this is much harder to pull off well done.
@TheKingPhisher i now they add up more than the orignal but if your lyk me young and have no money then its best to get one of these and build up on it thats what i have been doin ,, i have spent 450 pounds on mine so far and im guessin i will need to spend atleast 100 more to improve some things so yea it is more expensive than the real one depending on what u want to put in it
@MrGaza993 It's not more expensive if you have to upgrade for about 100 bucks. You pay 300 to 400 bucks for the Align kit alone. The HK one is under 100 bucks, so there's plenty of room for upgrades, repairs and what not before you hit the 400$ mark. Bear in mind that most people do not put super expensive electronics in their clones and why shouldn't they. Most use them as their trainer helicopters.
@TheKingPhisher I agree with you mate, it will cost more than the original align because you need to change a lot of parts. ei, landing skids, linkages and almost all plastic parts needs changing. that's what i did to my 500GT now its about 90% Align.
@TheKingPhisher You're quite wrong there. A genuine Align T-REX 500E Super Combo costs about 560-600$ and then you don't have a good lipo yet. A HK-500 CMT with Align tail and Align head will really not costs you more than about 350$ total, so that's almost half the price WITH upgrades that should solve most if not all issues with these clones.
I must admit that some will rather go all the way and buy the real deal. And I don't think you can really go wrong with that, but it'll cost you more.
@PHeMoX WTF are you smoking? A HK-500 CMT is $100 without upgrades or electronics. The T-REX 500E supercombo is $500 with electronics. Buy the electronics that's already included separately and you get the T-REX 500 chassis for almost free!
DS510 servo x 3 = $150
DS520 servo x 1 = $40
GP780 Gyro x 1 = $130
RCE-BL70G ESC x 1 = $90
500MX BL motor x 1 = $70
That's $480 in electronics which is included in the super combo right there! Do the math Mr. Right...lol.
@TheKingPhisher We in Europe have to pay 547 Euro 781$ for that Align kit!! No lipo, receiver and transmitter. So even then, we can't even get it for that kind of money to begin with.
But if you go for alternative electronics and not the over-expensive and really quite all-round Align stuff, you can easily cut two-third of that and still have plenty of money left for the necessary Align upgrades that ensure a proper life span.
So how again is 245 or 350$ euros not less than 547 Euros?
@PHeMoX You know the funny part about this? You have to pay 580$ to get the 450 Superior Combo here, so it seems that's an even worse deal as far as your 'kit for free' theory goes.... not to mention the HK or CopterX kits both cost even less.
@PHeMoX The HKs are sold by Hobbyking in Hong Kong. Helipal.com based also in Hong Kong sells the Align 500E SC for $447...
Stop making excuses....if you're happy with a low grade clone and equally low grade electronics then good for you. Just don't pretend you're getting the same quality and value as a genuine Align 500E SC. You don't save money with the HK clone, you actually end up spending more to upgrade the chassis just to TRY and get Align performance and reliability.
@TheKingPhisher You are gravely mistaken when you think I would believe I'm getting the same quality. But I do think I'm getting the better bang for buck, especially when flown as a trainer for 3D. I'd much rather crash the cheapest stuff and ultimately you can have a great flying helicopter with the electronics of your own choice for less money, which was point number two.
I will have to pay a much higher customs fee for that Align kit from Helipal, so I'm pretty sure that's a mute argument 2!
@TheKingPhisher No, it does. Same goes for shipping costs. You can't pretend it doesn't exist and still expect orders to arrive.
Besides, what's the point of trying to save money, when it'll end up being that much more expensive at your doorstep? Its over +20%.
It's about the total money spend to get something and what is needed to upgrade it to something more like the original Align helicopter without spending that kind of money.
It's funny you speak of doing math when you're so bad at it.
@PHeMoX It exists for YOU because of where you live...blame your government. It doesn't exist for me or anyone who lives in North America. For me it's CHEAPER to get an Align then waste time trying to polish a turd clone.
@TheKingPhisher That is simply not true. You might have to pay custom duties as well depending where things came from and if your package gets flagged you might even loose it altogether.
In fact, you might have to pay up to 81% of the value of the goods in duties before you get your stuff. Goods from many countries are exempt from duty under various trade agreements, but not HK.
@PHeMoX I order stuff from HK all the time man. I also order from other places in Hong Kong for my RC cars. I do not have to pay customs fees. In fact sometimes it's cheaper to buy from Hong Kong than to buy locally because the shipping would often times be cheaper than local tax + shipping. So as I said 500E combo would be cheaper and I get the real thing with real quality electronics. I'd be a complete moron to spend more to buy a HK and bandaid it with a bunch of Align parts to.
@TheKingPhisher Any good pilot will tell you that nothing of the Align electronics is significantly above average in true quality. Especially when you factor in costs and again the point was having a cheaper helicopter from the start, not an overpriced helicopter with somewhat average quality electronics and plastic pieces.
Anyone who swaps out electronics will get a worse deal. I dare say that if highest quality is what you're after, Align certainly isn't the end all be all for sure either!
@PHeMoX HK will never match Align quality end of story. HKs are just expensive clones with inferior parts that don't work as well out of the box as Align parts. This is proven fact. No top level competition pilot flies HK helis.
@TheKingPhisher Top level competition pilots might fly Align helicopters, but most sure as hell do not use solely Align electronics or even any Align electronics at all. Also bear in mind that many of those pilots have sponsor deals going, so they need not worry about anything.
Apart from that the main argument has always been about having a cheap but good trainer. Not an unbeatable Align rival or something stupid like that. Calling these clones expensive is really just plain sad dumb.
@TheKingPhisher hey hey sure this helicopter has a few crudy parts but there replaceble id rather buy a 300$ clone than a 700-800$ helicopter i respect your opionon but were not pros all we do is enjoy the hobby aligin is just too expensive
@PHeMoX How is the HK airframes not expensive crappy clones when they are $100 and still need Align upgrades to work right? The Align airframes are basically FREE...time to brush up on that math.
As for training helis, plenty of RTF packages that cost $200-$300 from other manufactures that don't need fixing out of the box. HKs are overpirced junk.
It's not a turd clone at all and inferior remains to be seen, especially with Align metal upgrades where it counts the most (something the cheaper 500E actually doesn't have).
I really haven't spend more money than I would have on an Align by a long shot and I dare say it flies great. You're stuck in thinking only Align will give you a reliable heli in this class, but you're very wrong. Especially when bang for bucks is concerned.
@TheKingPhisher That Align 500E kit you are referring to also is all plastic. No metal upgrades or anything. Thinks you will have when you add a rotor head and tail to the clone. Ultimately you can go both ways, but you'll still save money with the clones it's why they exist to begin with.
@PHeMoX It's not all plastic only main blade grips, seesaw and tail gearbox. Regardless I'd rather have some properly engineered plastic parts then some crappy metal parts that don't work well and needs constant fixing. Regardless it's still only $447 so if you want to upgrade to FULL metal it's still be only about $500 like I said from the beginning. At the end of the day the geniune Align airframe is still cheaper than the HK with upgrades.
@TheKingPhisher You're oblivious to the fact that we're effectively swapping out things for the same stuff, except that YOU pay much more for it. Ultimately the main difference between the clone and original will be the main frame, tail boom, screws and minor stuff like that.
Wow, this was really nice flying, congratulations. This cheap gyro holds the tail smoothly, impressive. You made some nice controlled circles, the 360 turns were nice as well.
I am learning flying on a 450 clone, just had my 7th flight and tried some circle flying. Not as nice as these circles, but I`m practicing. You gave me some inspiration with this flight, I will try that later!
nice flying, looks like the HK401 works fine! Did you uptate parts on your tail or it is completly stock?, I heard that the stock version do not have thrust bearing in the tail? and the spindle bolt needs to be replaced by those of Align. NIce machine, nice canopy too!
Nice flying and good cameraman. If you want to save "more" money, don't buy anymore thunderpower batteries. U.S. lipo retailers all buy from chinese/korea mfg. You get a fancy label/advertisement, but markup from distributor + markup from hobby store. Buy HOBBYKING!!! By the way, good choice on 5s for this heli. I do the same even for inverted flying. 6s is highly overpowered for most people. Keep on flying. Also, how'd you get the keys to the local basketball court?
@trexinvert Lol, you don't seem to get it, but those Thunder Power Lipos do pack a lot of power for their money. Most of Hobbyking's lipos do not quite compare. I fly the 500 CMT with 6s and do not think it's overkill, especially for aerobatics.
