Members of the Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter-Day Saints (Mormons) are followers of Christ. You don't see us going around spreading hatred by claiming that others are not Christian, simply because of a few doctrinal differences.
@awolLDSasap sure there are corrections in the JST, but its ALL true or its all not, and in the case that it IS true, then just like the rest of the bible, the book of revelations had lost things in translation and perhaps been tampered with by men in the early years subsequent to its' creation. In this case Joseph was merely restoring the meaning that were originally there. So he wasn't adding or removing from the original text.
@Theeagerburger Knock out all the teeth you want. "No unhallowed hand can stop this work from progressing. Persecutions may rage, mobs may combine, armies may assemble, calumny may defame, but the truth of God will go forth boldy, nobly, and independent, till it has penetrated every continent, visited every clime, swept every country, and sounded in every ear, till the purposes of God shall be accomplished, and the great Jehovah shall say, 'The work is done.'"
@gregersen80015 Let me tell you something you demonic mormon, by the power of GOd your satanic mormon cult will be stopped one day, there will be plenty of hands in the name of God that will put an end to the mormon cult.. dont fuck with me
@Theeagerburger Your taunts don't scare me. They do not shake my testimony. You throw all the insults you want to at the Church, but the gospel of Jesus Christ will roll until it has filled the whole world like the stone cut out of the mountain without hands, as seen by King Nebuchenezzer in Daniel 2.
@Theeagerburger You are the reason so many people don't believe in God. Shut your mouth, you're doing so much more harm than good. I'm not saying Mormon's are correct, or "more knowledgable" about Jesus. They're not. But with idiot's like you going around, corrupting the Lord's name, it's going to take a loooong time to make believers.
@Theeagerburger The members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which is the name we identify ourselves by, worship God the Father and His Son Jesus Christ. The name of the Church bears the name of the Savior, and those who have been baptized have taken upon them His name. To us, Joseph Smith was a man merely called of God to lead and guide His Church. Joseph is NOT a centerpiece of worship in our Church; he's just the one through whom the gospel of Jesus Christ was restored.
Hollands retoric always attempts to sound Christian, but he leaves out the lds unBiblical garbage. Such as, paying Jesus back for his sacrifice in the Garden of Gethsemane, living by laws and ordinances and denying the grace of God, men claiming might and authority over other men, praising and adorning men, baptizing dead people.
Well, I don't believe we are claiming it is that simple. Joseph Smith was "called of God as was Aaron" and was given the Authority of God to Act in his name. Joseph Smith received the Melkezedeck Priesthood from Peter, James and John, and the Aaronic Priesthood from John the Baptist. So what would be stopping you is that fact that God has not given you the authority to do it....unless you think it is as simple as going to a college being told your smart and then proceed to start your church. :)
@keltontrey Are you really suggesting Joseph Smith received priesthood from these men who died centuries before he was born? You can't be serious. Secondly, I'm sure Wayne Bent (Michael Travesser) was as "called of God" as your fearless leader Joseph Smith. Does that mean I believe he is right? No, because I know what the bible tells me.
@keltontrey I also happen to know for a fact, that for a book to be added to the canon of the New Testament, which, in all honesty, I'm not sure you claim your book to be a part of, it must meet the criteria of being written by an actual Apostle of Christ or one of his associates. Not some boy wandering in a forest over a millenium later.
@wildhockeyfan34, O you mean, not some boy in his bed younger than Joseph Smith woken up in the middle of the night and told that he was called to be a prophet, yeah nothing like Samuel. Only people who get paid to preach, and who can get an bachelors in "Preaching my word" are qualified. Those people "Earn" the right, they are not chosen "as was Aaron"
@keltontrey Your first flaw is the fact that Samuel is from the Old Testament period. This was before the time of Christ, when prophets were still abundant, before Christ declared there would be many false prophets in the future. Secondly, what makes your Joseph Smith any different than Mohammed? What makes your so called "divine revelation" any more truthful than the Quran and the Muslims? Your truth is not backed up by reliable scripture, and therefore, irrelevant.
@wildhockeyfan34, correct me if I'm wrong but if you believe God and Christ are the same being or spirit it was always Christ speaking to the prophets, and you may want to check your resources when ever there have been false prophets there have always been true prophets for them to imitate, or else how could you have a false prophet? Please tell me where the modern day Moses is today? Do a search for false prophets in the old testament, they were everywhere.
@keltontrey Well I'm not quite sure what you mean. Are you implying there IS a modern day Moses? What makes you think there should be one? Jesus was the one prophesied about, the Bible never says there would be another. And what are you getting at about false prophets following true prophets? Please, inform me. Joseph Smith IS a false prophet.
@wildhockeyfan34 Well if Christ is the same yesterday today and forever, and he follows a pattern you tell me.
Old testament: Prophets & False Prophets
New testament: Prophets & False Prophets
Our time: ( ? ) & False Prophets
The Lord believed so much not only in prophets but an actual structured church that he called apostles, prophets, pastors,.seventy.etc. Christ set the PERFECT example, are you saying you strive to find a church opposite of the one he set up?
Who ever said Christ followed a pattern? Of course he is unchanging, but that doesn't mean he is stuck on some endless loop of prophets. I think you take that verse way out of context. Christ IS the perfect example, because he is the one that was prophesied about! And obviously, he was so much more than just a prophet. Nowhere in the bible does it talk about a random boy in the 1800's receiving "Divine Revelation". No, Jesus says many will come in his name, but they will be deceivers.
@keltontrey Well first of all, I love how you keep dodging my questions. Are they that hard to answer? As for yours:
1. Prophets were called to spread the word of God. But just claiming to be a prophet does not automatically make me believe your words. What makes the Book of Mormon any different than The Revelation of Arès?
2. I honestly can't name a prophet who has prophecied something that has actually come true, that has not come from the Bible. *Excluding the prophecy gift of the spirit.
1. Yes, prophets are, I'm glad you said it, CALLED. And can you tell me how they were called in the Bible? 1a. Prophets are not just called to spread the word of God, they are the representative of God on earth, they would do what God would do, so they are entrusted with his authority, or Priesthood , to act in his name. They call people to repentance. 1b. The book of Mormon is a collection of writings by prophets spanning about a 1000yrs of history.
@bujin21 Well, first of all, Moses and Isaiah are from the Old Testament period. They never added any scripture, because the OT canon wasn't assembled before they wrote their scripture, so it was part of the original. As for Paul, he was an apostle of Christ. Which means 2 things: His scripture was eligible to be a part of the NT canon, and he probably happened to know a thing or two about what he was preaching. And not from some deep "encounter with God" in a forest as a child.
The Bible states that there will be MANY false prophets and "teachers" and religons right before the last days...these are the last days...Joseph Smith, no matter how much you want to candy coat it or explain it..HE WAS A FALSE PROPHET...He himself said the BOM was the most correct book..Why then has it been "CHANGED" so many times over the years? But you{LDS] always seem to have a way of twisting words around to make it seemv[at least to you anyway] like it's the truth CULT, CULT, NOT CHRISTIAN
Are you serious? Please tell me you did not just bring out one of the weakest arguments against the Book of Mormon. Ok so you acknowledge that there are false prophets, that means there is one true prophet teaching 1 message, tell me of one "Modern Christian leader" who calls himself the Lords spokes person for the Earth, The Modern day Moses or Abraham? I have never heard of any leader doing that except the Pope or the LDS church.
You argue CULT CULT NOT CHRISTIAN; o.k. what's your basis that it isn't Christian. Simply put Christian means one that follows Christ - Right? So all the other stuff aside Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter Day Saints would indicate that Mormons are in fact Christians. What's your counter?
Your next argument is that Mormons are a cult. To my knowledge this term is more of an empty insult from a bigot than an accusation. Why do you call it a CULT CULT?
no christian means one who follow the jesus christ of the bible and are easily noticed by exploring historical evidence of the pre catholic christians. So yes mormons are not christians, your jesus is the spirit brother of lucifer, ours is the Alpha and the Omega, he was always God and therefore cannot be the spirit brother of a fallen angel.
Wrongo buddy - You don't control the language. A Christian is one who is of Christ just like American is one who is of America and many more examples like that. Mormons believe in Jesus of the bible. We believe he (after telling his followers that he had to tend to other sheep and ascended into Heaven) came to America and taught the people of America. Jesus never said he was God. He said he was one with God. Mormons have a more complete understanding of God and Jesus. We're all Christians
you are not christians because you do not follow christ you follow joseph smiths fake christ and think that gives you the right to call yourselves christians. Satanist would be a better definition for you.
Do you have any idea how ridicules you sound? Anyone who knows Mormons and how nice they are knows they are anything but Satanists. The faithful members of the church are the greatest people I have ever known.
Give me a break. You dig up little snippets out of mounds of church history and think people are going to believe you when they see the church and know what it does on a daily bases? You have bigger battles to fight mate.
actually biblical etymology is subject to discussion beyond the dictionary definition because of the subject matter it is applied to. At least thats the rule in scholarly debate.
I'm not going to lie, in a way, we are a cult. A cult is a group of people who follow one single person, definition of cult. We the LDS people follow Christ and frankly, sorry to burst your bubble, only Christ. So in a sense, yes, we are a cult.
@DianaArmstrongGonzal many of the changes to the Book of Mormon are merely punctuation and chapter realignments. It reads the same way it read back in the 1800s.
Actually the latest the world knows about was the calling of Pres.Thomas S. Monson as the Prophet and Elder D Todd Christofferson as the newest member of the Quorum of the twelve apostles. Remember revelation is the will of the Lord being communicated to you, there needs to be no sensational claims made to be a "revelation".
I was aware of those events keltontrey, I don't think I stated my question very well. I am curious as to why God has not given any further canon revelation to the Mormon Church as of late? Unless it would be the Book of Jereneck, does that count?
Well this is The Dispensation of The Fullness of Times, whihc means we have more than any other generation that has every been on the Earth. Continuing revelation is given during General Conference twice a year and is considered doctrine. Do we need to come out with offical new canon from some other prophet that you would not believe? When it's done it's done for a reason, and when Latter day saints show the Lord they are ready for more then the Lord will give more, but not until then.
telemantros - LOL! The Book of Jereneck?? Thats freaking funny! :) I get the joke! LOL! I'm Mormon but I still think that was funny. (Oh man my gut hurts!)
