I have played cricket to a very high standard; a game in which you need to catch a ball of similar size and weight without a mit that increases the surface area of your hand by around 5 times. That is a much higher level skill

Awesome. I think it's a badass catch, and to he able to hang on to the ball after getting rocked to the dome piece, is pretty sweet too.

lmao fucking limeys think they are tough because in cricket they don't use mits. yeah well a baseball has a lot more mass than a cricket ball...you'd break your fucking hand if you tried to snag a line drive with your bare hands. plus do you expect catcher to catch 100 mph fastballs with their hands?

I don't understand how you could ever drop a ball in baseball with that massive mit on your hand. Surely the game would be better if the fielders didnt have that. It removes almost all the skill of catching

I have played cricket to a very high standard; a game in which you need to catch a ball of similar size and weight without a mit that increases the surface area of your hand by around 5 times. That is a much higher level skill

you're correct to an extent; the only thing with the gloves are that baseballs tend to generate more speed than cricket balls, because baseball bats are generally lighter and more compact than cricket bats, so they connect with the ball at higher speeds and generate more power...the batted ball speed of pro baseball's biggest hitters can reach about 190 km/hr, and catching a ball at that speed with your bare hand can injure it
also the gloves are helpful for handling the spin of ground balls
