No one should go to jail ever for doing shit to animals, who give a fuck. There Animals. if you want to to torture animals who fucking cares, there animals not people , fucking idiots that cant tell the difference.
@TheDukeljk People can tell the difference between animals and people. But whats not different is that we both feel pain. You need to learn empathy. I don't think you would say that if a more intelligent beings came to us and started torturing us you would say that their smarter so let them torture us and kill us - who gives a fuck. Put yourself in their position. Better yet watch the movie Earthlings. the whole thing.
I've got a problem with PETA, but, in this case Fox is attacking them for no reason at all. They just hate PETA and can't even acknowledge when they're doing something right.
This is so fucking stupid. Under the law Vick did his time. What the fuck more do you people want. What do you think is done to animals like cows, pigs and chickens? they are killed for for food. It doesn't matter how the fuck they are killed, the point is that they are still dead and people still eat them. I wish people would show this kind of concern for humans. Cause honestly if it came down to a dog or a human, FUCK A DOG, CAT, TURTLE OR ANY OTHER ANIMAL BEING USED AS A PET!
PETA is the biggest crock of shit in the world. They should only be involved with extreme cases, like dogfighting, but thats it. They protested bass masters! Why? the fish are kept alive and a hook doesnt do any harm to the fish. FUCK YOU PETA
If you think that Michael Vick was with PETA to learn a lesson, you're incredibly gullible. I hate Fox News as much as the next person but Michael Vick should have been doing much longer time for torturing a living creature.
@MalachorWraith I'm not disagreeing with anything you're saying. What I'm saying is that regardless of his reasons, people who abuse animals need to be taught a lesson. That includes both jailtime and rehabilitation. If there' s a chance to expose an animal abuser to information about why doing so is messed up, everyone agrees you do it.
@MalachorWraith dude...if he had gotten more than 5 years (which i think they were giving him a max of 10) then most of the other people who get off on manslaughter and second degree murder should be put to death. (humans != animals in terms of totem pole status; however people should respect their capacity to feel emotion)
of course i believe he should do time, but when you think about it, when is the last time youve seen a damn celebrity go to jail and stay there unless it was tax evasion?
There are situations of murder that are less evil than torture. I'm sorry but the willful infliction of pain on a conscious living creature is disgusting. Accessory to shooting someone with a bullet is less evil than torturing something to death. I'm not saying second degree murder should be a slap on the wrist but dogs legitimately feel love, pain, and kinship to people. In all honesty, if I could 100% verify a torturer, I'd put them down like a bad dog.
@MalachorWraith to each his own. I respect your opinion, but ill stick to my own. I can't compare the life of an animal to the life of another human being in the sense that its unnatural for a genetically higher species to do so. However, i do see your point.
Only in the specific case that the animal and human made a relationship so close that it would come to be seen as similar to a human friend would i compare any violent act cross-species , but thats for personal feelings of the couple.
. I hope Michael Vick goes to hell, the evil, backward bastard. I love the way Sheppard exposes PETA's pure stupidity here. This organization gives other, genuine animal charities a bad name.
Vick came from a shit hole neighborhood where morality did not exist. Treating animals appropriately isn't something he is going to learn, ever. Making all NFL players take the course? WTF? Can you imagine Joe Montana hurting a dog? PETA should be attacking the horse racing business. That is pure animal cruelty. Those animals die young and there is one reason for it: big money gambling. gambling on any thing is the worst sort of addiction and vice and ought to be outlawed. Lottery and bingo too.
Well. obviously u are ignorant of the fact that PETA attacks the horse racing business as well.
Ideally speaking, u are right in that some people cannot ever adopt a moral stance towards animals. But that's like questioning every other kind of correctional facility that exists in society. Why invest resources to reintegrate ex-felons into society? And enroll pedophiles in community service? And have correctional programs for immoral ppl in general? PETA isn't uinque in this.
how about everyone on death row dies that saves us money automatically. we all know PETA is fucking stupid useless piles of shit that dont know their ass from a whole in the ground
I've never seen someone kick someone so deep in the ass before.
Yea, this buffoon needs to learn that torturing animals is not the nice thing to do. He needs a class for this. What kind of lunatic doesn't know that torturing an animal is cruel? And this fungus, Vick tortured apparently just for the sake of torturing. If you need a class to learn these things then you aslo need psychological help.
That's just wrong. I'm sorry, I'll debate someone on any topic apart from vegetarianism. We are conditioned NATURALLY to eat meat -it's why we have sharp incisors for tearing flesh and molars for grinding. BTW. Registered nutritionist here under the NCEHS license who says YES we do need meat, plant proteins can't sustain us at our peak levels indefinitely.
I'm as liberal as they come but PETA really ticks me off. I'm all for fair treatment of animals but the way they push vegetarianism is seriously wrong and they lose a lot of support because of it. We are omnivores, we are specifically designed to eat animals (check the teeth in your mouth for proof). Animals do have rights and should be treated fairly but if we need to eat them then let the cycle of life happen. Shep is a v v good reporter btw.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
animals arent humans and anyone who says they are is clearly not right in the head they dont have the same feelings longings or desires and thus not anywhere near the same value to society nonetheless they still should not be abused for sport but also should not be deified and yeah fuck PETA but go people for the eating of tasty animals yeaaahhhh
I didn't realize that not being able to pronounce a name properly precluded a person from discussing an issue. I didn't realize this because I'm not a stupid moron.
PETA's founder has gone on record saying she wants a ban on breeding pit bulls, calling them unnatural. As some one who works with dogs I understand that every dog breed is an unnatural creation. How can PETA help dogs if they have no understanding of their origins?
1) When you refer to Vick as Shannon, you're not just mispronouncing a name.
2) PETA calls the BREEDING process unnatural, not the breed of the dog itself. It supports legislation that bans the breeding of pitbulls as much it calls for laws to ban puppymills and the breeding of other exotic animals.
It's about time you realized that you ARE a stupid moron.
They were talkng about a guy named MICHAEL for 5 minutes. Can't you see how someone might mix the names up, especially since Shep disrespects this guy? He isn't against PETA he is against how they handled the Vick situation. They inadvertently helped him. It was a huge PETA snafu. Get your head on straight. This wasn't about understanding politics. It was about PETA having its heads up its ass. Vick is back in the NFL & he can thank PETA for aidng his situation. He should be in jail for life.
Shep Smith is a tool. I guess it would be better for Vick to never learn about treating animals properly. Fox has always been against all forms of education. Except sunday school.
peta is fucking horseshit....my friend is in vetinary school in st.kitts and he explained to me thoroughly why the veterinary industry is soooo against peta....peta is completely full of shit
honestly, FUCK PETA!!! They support killing not only pitbulls, but all domesticated pets. On petas web site it says in clear blck and white: "The only way to help pitbulls is by eliminating them". Bunch of sick fucks if you ask me.
xranger, You are grossly misinformed. It is not PETA killing tens of thousands of animals!
27,473 abandoned animals die EVERY day in 4,000 taxpayer-funded shelters for want of a home. 9.6 million animals meet their miserable end EVERY year in shelters, and most times inhumanely.
The U.S. spends 2 billion dollars EVERY killing shelter animals.
Furthermore, PETA is not a shelter nor do they operate one. PETA is an animal rights group whose focus is exposing animal suffering.
CDL,they killed over 95 percent of the animals(mainly dogs and cats)they took in cause they said they were all to aggresive or sick yet they have about 32mil dollar budget, they only saved 7 animals lives and found homes for them, while there are many other smaller shelters with smaller budgets finding homes for their animals, while being close to the location of Peta hq,nevertheless. Not to mention they want to kill pitbulls and are against pets and dogs for the blind.
The truth, carbonman, is that PETA's website, helpinganimals, com promotes companion animal guardianship.
It's preposterous to say that PETA opposes animal guardianship. PETA vigorously promotes the responsible keeping of companion animals with their Community Animal Project, which provides doghouses, food, toys, and free vet care to dogs who spend their entire lives outdoors on a chain.
Where did PETA state that they oppose the use of seeing eye dogs? You are watching too much penn & teller, carbonman. You do realise that they are a Las Vegas sideshow, eh.
Ms. Newkirk has stated that animals are not ours to eat, wear, experiment on, or use for entertainment.
Blind persons do not use animals for entertainment; they rely upon the dog for essential life matters, unlike a human being who makes circus animals perform for human beings, thus exploiting the animal for money.
Of the 10,000 animals who came through PETA's door last year, 2,124 were euthanized, and they were brought in either by their guardians or a compassionate citizen for that purpose because the animal was terminally ill or fatally wounded. All healthy animals are referred to shelters such as the Norfolk SPCA, where the animal may not be taken in due to overcrowding. PETA provides free HUMANE euthanasia as well as sterilization to animals whose guardians cannot afford the service at a vet's office.
Where did you read such nonsense that PETA wants to kill the pit bull dog, carbonman?
EVERY single day, PETA's Community Animal Project goes out on calls to rescue a Pit Bull with a head swollen the size of a melon from fighting wounds.
Asia, a female pit bull, weighing 31 pounds wearing a 14 pound chain, was starving to death when PETA came upon her lifeless body. Asia could not be saved, but PETA got justice for her -- vigorously pursuing a criminal conviction of Asia's killer.
Following the release of a damning USDA report on Michael Vick's dogfighting activities—and an ominous silence from Vick's camp when we brought it to their attention—PETA has sent a letter to the NFL calling for the league to require that Vick undergo a new brain-scanning procedure already in use at a New Mexico corrections facility that can test for psychopathy (anti-social personality disorder) before he is allowed to be a children's hero again.
I absolutely hate his interview style. He constantly interrupts the guy and he takes that comment from the peta website as meaning they now support Vick and want him to be forgiven. When the peta rep tries to explain Shep cuts him off repeatedly. A good interview let's someone make their point before they debate or refute it. Impartiality Shep, it's the cornerstone of responsible journalism.
It's amazing to me that people are so up-in-arms over these dogfighting charges yet they don't see that their food is mostly from tortured, abused, and neglected animals. Why do people think that dogs suffer more than cows or pigs or chickens?
If you ever bother to get off your ass and actually go to a real farm that breeds animals for beef or tyson, and not the phony slaughterhouses PeTA shows you, let me know if your opinion changes. I've been to a chicken farm, and it was a very nice facility. *And* they bred chickens for Tyson. Who give their chickens to KFC.
just because they're for a good cause doesn't mean they're good. peta, in the beginning, threw paint at people with fur anything on, and haven't gone too far since
i would tell you the truth, but, like i did yesterday, you will ignore it. if you really don't trust me, look it up, because, if you don't, you will still act like an immature child going "LA LA LA LA LA, i can't hear you".
Well, CDLver has multiple accounts to "help" his PETA cult.
I believe the only way to get rid of PETA is to just ignore them completely. They love getting any kind of publicity, whether it's good or bad just as long as people talks about them.
I'm trying to start an anti-PETA campaign called Ignore PETA.
Check out this PETA campaign called "Eat the Whales!"
I'm not joking here is what they say: "If you don't have the self-discipline to stop eating meat but want to cause as little suffering to animals as possible, may we suggest you leave the other animals alone and ... eat the whales"
WTH I guess a whale isn't as important as cow?!
"Ignorance Is Bliss before the Harpoon Strikes!"
For all you people defending PETA, this organization has no credibility left!
I wonder what the percentage is of Pit Bulls that are in the wrong hands. I seem to see the majority together with so called macho guys who use them for bolstering their image and what about the fighting they are used in? Surely Pits ARE the most abused dogs on the planet? Shame for the responsible owners . Also America abandons so many pets which can't be found new homes. I think Peta did the right thing getting Vick on an empathy course. Sends out the right signals.
Please go to wallace the pit bull. he has a channel here on youtube, but go to his website and look at the video called "only criminals" that video shows who really get hurt by BSL. BSLwill do nothing to the people braking teh laws and everythingto responsible owners like myself.
BSL does nothing to prevent animal abusers from fighting dogs. It is the animal fighter that must be punished, not the pit bull dog, and not responsible pit bull dog guardians, of which I am one, too.
For the last time, stupidppl, PETA does not want to ban the pit bull dog. PETA supports a breeding ban of MORE pit bulls, the same way they promote sterilization as a means to control the animal overpopulation crisis.
for the last time I have presented you with articles from PETA's website AND an article written by Ingrid that BOTH uses the word BAN. If it was just about breeding, then why do the pits already born, in shelters have to die as well?
If you refuse to ackowledge that, that is NOT my problem.
stupidppl, PETA's website, SavingAnimals, com states their position on the pit bull dog and BSL. PETA would never, ever, support a breeding ban of MORE pit bull dogs if there were a 'kill clause' in it.
We save animals, not promote the killing of them. PETA has been misquoted and purposefully mischaracterized by breeders, so no, the articles that you present me with are not fact, but bald-faced lies.
um-the articlesI presented you with CDLvers were not written by breeders they were written by PETA.They were written by Ingrid Newkirk and by Daphana Nachminovitch, director of PETA's domestic animal and wildlife rescue and information department and was taken from PETA'S OWN WEBSITE.
So NOW you see PETA's hypocricy, say one thing and do another.
No, stupidppl, the articles that you presented me with took excerpts from statements that were made by PETA, which were then craftily spun to suit the agenda of animal breeders who masquerade as dog fanciers.
What lends you to believe that everything I said was not based on "Redemption." Of course I read it.
Go to PETA, then go to media center, then news releases and search "Brain's Law." then go to SFGate(dot)com look for Wednesday, June 8, 2005 and you can read "Controlling an animal as deadly as a weapon" by Ingrid Newkirk in its entirety.
And I have the book Redemption right here next to me and that is how I know you did not read it.
On New Year's Day '08, PETA's Community Animal Project fieldworkers came upon Hugo, a dead pit bull dog starved to death whose necropsy report revealed that he died with nothing in his belly but grass and orange peels. He had broken ribs, heartworm disease, and internal parasites. Another pit bull dog killer whose sentence was a cake walk in the park compared to Hugo's slow and torturous death.
EVERY single day, PETA is called to these sort of crime scenes involving pit bulls!
Oh BOOO HOOO. You think PETA is the only one who has to do this??? Come on give me a break!! I have friends who run pit bull rescues, they deal with these problems everday as well and they don't have half the money and half the resources that PETA has. They rescue pitbulls from deplorable conditions and use their OWN money to do it.
they then rehabilitate these animals and try find them homes, which has become more of a challenge due to all the anti-pit laws that you and PETA keep pushing. How many people will agree to adopt a dog that they are going to need a $100,000 liability insurance policy for or cannot take to a park or a walk outside w.o a muzzle. BSL makes it harder for adoptable pits to get adopted and that is why so many die in shelters.
that is on the failing of the shelters. The same mandate that claims that all pits should be killed in shelters, the same mandate that you and PETA supports.
PETA once wanted to round-up Pit bulls and have them destroyed. These people are the biggest hypocrits. What about human beings being murdered everyday. And also Shepard Smith is a loud mouth Dumbass!
PETA doesn't care about pit bulls or it would no be supporting Breed Specific Legislation. They do things like this to trick pit bull owners into thinking they are on their side, but they turn around and vote for all the legislations pit bull owners fight. You can read how Newkirk REALLY feels about pits in her article "some dogs are weapons - ban them" she agrees with mandatory euthanasia of all pits in shelters regardless of age, health and tempermant. Regardless of if they could find a home.
PETA does not support banning the breed of Pit Bull dog. PETA does, however, support legislation that BANS THE BREEDING OF MORE PIT BULLS, just as they support any spay/neuter legislation as the most effective way to combat the animal overpopulation problem.
There's a clear distinction, yet you choose to craftily spin it.
Spay/neuter is a rational response, and Pit Bull rescue groups agree -- there's absolutely no excuse to breed more pit bull dogs when 1.25 million die in shelters.
your obviously are the one in denial. PETA does promote msn for all breeds, however it never says to out right kill the other breeds if they end up in a shelter like PETA does. With all this talk about overpopulation this and overpopulation that you would think PETA would not be looking for stupid reasosn to impound more animals. But that is what BSL does and that is what PETA supports.
google "Brians Law Could Prevent Future Tragedies, Says Group" you can find it on PETA's website. It reads:
"This morning, PETA sent an urgent letter to Dorchester County Council Chair Larry Hargett and other council members urging them to follow the lead of dozens of other jurisdictions across the country by banning or strictly regulating pit bull ownership."
"More and more communities are realizing that the best way to prevent another tragic death like Brians is to enact a ban on acquiring pit bulls," says PETA Director Daphna Nachminovitch.
So basically they are just perpetuating the misconception that Pits are viscious which leads to bad people wanting to own them in the first place.
PETA & HSUS pushed hard for the euthanasia of the vick pits. After taking in donations for the care of the dogs even though they were NEVER in their posession. "In most cases, pit bulls seized from dogfighting rings are euthanized, and as sad as that is to all of us, it may be the best thing to do for everyone concerned," PETA spokesman Dan Shannon said. Guess what the dogs are rehabilitated and one has become a therapy dog, so PETA is in no way an expert when it comes to pitbulls.
"there's absolutely no excuse to breed more pit bull dogs when 1.25 million die in shelters."
There is absolutely no reason to support legislation that would involve more pitbulls being displaced and placed in shelters. There is no excuse for advocating the mandatory euthanasia of pits that enter a shelter even if it could be adopted. Do you think that would lower the euthanasia rates are increase them?
stupidppl, On the contrary, PETA's spent $7,458,494 of its 2007 donations on Public Outreach and Education with their Community Animal Project campaign, which helps animals in a hands-on way: PETA field workers build and deliver free doghouses, provide warm, dry, shelter to companion animals forced to live outdoors along with food, veterinary services, parasite prevention, and toys.
yeah I think I saw something like that on the HBO special" I Am an Animal, teh story of Ingrid Newkirk." I was very impressed until they took a pitbull back to HQ and killed it because it had heartworms, which by the way is almost always cureable, so I'm not sure why they couldn't use some of that $7,458,494 to pay for some heartworm medication.
stupidppl, You obviously did not see the condition of that poor creature rescued from that miserable human being. He obviously had advanced heartworm disease, was starved, his breathing labored, and he could not walk to the car. He was dying.
HEARTWORMS IS CUREABLE! IF IT WAS STARVING FEED IT. Rescues all over this country deal with situations like these everday the difference is that they are willing to do w.e it takes to save a life. They have less money, less resources and yet they do more. If they had taken the time to help that dog to restore it back to health the dog could be alive and happy with a loving family right now.
No, stupidppl, heartworm disease is not curable in its advanced stage. It is fatal, as evidenced by the dog's inability to breathe, his heart was ravaged by worms, unable to deliver oxygen to his lungs.
Tragically, he was not rescued in time to be saved.
In dogs with severe heartworm disease, it may be necessary to treat them with antibiotics, special diets, diuretics to remove fluid accumulations, and drugs to improve heart function prior to treatment for the heartworms. Dogs with severe heart disease may need lifetime treatment but that does not mean they cannot have a fulfilling life.
Surely, stupidppl, if the animal could have been saved, PETA would have saved him. This was not the case after the dying animal had been examined by a vet.
I sense your resistance, but it is irrefutable that PETA's Community Animal Project saves pit bull dogs everyday--providing free sterilization, vet care, shots, doghouses, and toys to guardians who would otherwise not have these necessities for their companion animal.
if the animal could have been saved, PETA would have saved him
All those pit in shelters can be saved so why not save them? the vick pits could have been saved and were saved... But PETA wanted them euthanized. As for PETA's Community Animal Project I think it is very good because guess what pit bull rescues and ordinary citizens, including responsible pit owners have been doing this for years now and we don't seek for a pat on the back.
The Vick dogs are a unique case -- a first ever full scale rescue, assessment, and rehabilitation of former fighting dogs. If not but for Judge Hudson ordering that Vick pay 975,000 for their care and rehabilitation, those poor creatures would've been euthanized.
Best Friends Animal sanctuary took 22 of the most difficult dogs of the 47 rescued. 2 of the 22 are court ordered to never leave the sanctuary. The sanctuary estimates their lifetime care to total 40,000 dollars each.
No it was NOT a unique case we in the pit bull community have been dong this for YEARS. And guess what the pits at BF get fed and walked and they are played with which IMO and the DOGS opinions is a whole lot better than being DEAD. You should check out these dogs. Look up "from fighters to family pets" here on youtube and google "From Vick dog to therapy dog" all of which would be DEAD because of PETA.
REALLY. EVERY ONE? check out the Pitbull Rescue Center, NewHope Pit Bull Rescue,Mike's dog house,Pitbull Advocates for Compassion& Kindness,Homeward Bound rescue,Recycle-a-Bull pitbull rescue and the Villalobos Rescue Center all promote VOLUNRATY sterilization, including myself. My pit Dolly is steralized and she has never had any pups, but thanks for the dumb assmuptions.
you know who else is against MSN but all for voluntray s/n? The Illinois State Veterinary Medical Association, The American College of Theriogenologists and The Society for Theriogenology. A theriogenologist is a specialist in the reproductive systems of animals.
Frustrated by the obscene number of abandoned animals being euthanized every day, stupidppl?
As a tax-payer, you should be outraged that your dollars are being spent to suffocate animals in gas chambers, when such money could be used to SAVE them.
Write your lawmakers. Demand that no-kill shelters have an open-admission policy. Then PETA won't be forced to clean up after society's mess.
I do not support shelters that kill dogs in gas chambers, that is why I support no-kill. Open admissionis the goal for every true no-kill shelter, of course it won't happen over night more and more shelters are converting to no-kill now.
"Demand that no-kill shelters have an open-admission policy"
Are you then going to help support these same shelters and lift them up, unlike PETA who has made it a life goal to discredit them. How do you scream they don't work! they don't work and do nothing to help them?
"Then PETA won't be forced to clean up after society's mess."
No one forced PETA to do anything. As i have said the pitbull community has been doing this for yearswithout complaint.
Which shelters, stupidppl, has PETA discredited? Those gassing animals to death in metal boxes? Those who hang dogs and cats by their scruff and stab them with a needle into the heart? Those who cage, confine, and keep animals in despicable conditions?
PETA does help support shelters, and uses its member donations for that very purpose.
I was saying that PETA discredits NO-KIL SHELTERS.PETA has never come out in favor of ONE no-kill shelter. Most of PETA's donations go into outrageous and stupid campaign stunts like comparing the tragic beheading of Tim McLean to that of a chicken before his body was even in the ground and parading around naked women. I know small-scale shElters that do more than PETA with half the donation money.
On the contrary, stupidppl, PETA spent 240,000 dollars cleaning up the despicable shelter system in Bertie County North Carolina, when in 2000, PETA was called by a police officer who reported that starving dogs at the Bertie Shelter were eating dead animals.
PETA vigorously supports the humane housing of abandoned animals, but this is not always the case as evidenced by their undercover investigations of some no-kill shelters, namely All Creatures Great & Small.
ah but just because someone calls itself no-kill does not make it no-kill. Any shelter that is despicable cannot call itself a shelter, let alone a no-kill shelter. All creatures great & small and Bertie wereNOT following the no-kill equations and was not what we in the movement would call a no-kill shelter.
And YOU should thank PETA for exposing Bertie and All Creatures, yet you condemn them, and for what? Their undercover investigations into those two shelters saved hundreds of abandoned animals!
Stop blaming PETA for having to clean up after society's sloppiness.
the No Kill Advocy Center just won a lawsuit against the shelter system in Los Angeles County for all the unlawful and abusive treatment of animals at all six Los Angeles County animal shelters. Google "Lawsuit alleges LA shelters neglect, abuse animals" and google "Dead puppy at shelter spurs suit." I condemn PETA for bad talkig the no-kill movement I thank them for exposing Bertie and All Creatures.
what about those healthy animals thrown into the dumpster by PETA employees? are you trying to tell me they were not adopable when veterinarians have comeout and said in the court case that they actually were including a mother cat a her kittens and a young dalmation puppy?
If PETA isn't a shelter either build one or stop collecting animals
PETA will never turn its back on an animal in need, even when that means taking in animals who are diseased, badly injured, aggressive, or elderly—animals who have little to no chance of being adopted or helped by anyone else—and providing them with a painless release from a world that does not want them.
who says they are not wanted. Stop supporting ridiculous laws that make it harder for people to own animals and you will see more adoptions. All of thoseanimals you describe above have been adopted out by no-kill shelters, have you ever volunteered at one?
BSL laws which like OHIO makes pit bulls outlaws and laws which make people have to hold high insurance policies and must keep the dog inside the house all of them time if they adopted it. BSL affects 26 dog brees in the United States. Then there are laws like MSN which have been proven to increase shelter intake once they are implemented making it harder for the animals already in shelters to get adopted.
Why do you suppose then, stupidppl, that Adria Hinkle was found NOT guilty of 3 felony counts of receiving animals under false pretenses from Dr. Proctor's vet clinic?
Perhaps the jury did not find Dr. Proctor credible, huh? Proctor himself, it was revealed at trial, was contracted by the Hertford County Shelter to humanely euthanize animals who were old, sick, or otherwise unadoptable, and PETA, not the taxpayers, paid him for this service to the county.
if they were going to euthanize them they could have just done it at the shelter. I don't see why they had to take them in the van and THEN kill them. Only someone who has something to hide would have done that.
I realize your frustration, stupidppl. 1.25 million pit bull dogs are dying every year in shelters for want of a home, not counting those who die in fighting pits, of starvation, brutalized, beaten, made snarling beasts on chains while they languish in a backyard somewhere. PETA knows well. We see it every day.
Do something about it. Don't stew because PETA supports mandatory breeding bans of MORE pit bull dogs.
We can only stop killing animals if we stop breeding more of them.
Adria Hinkle testified at trial why she felt the need to dispose of the 18 animal carcasses in the dumpster. The single conviction for improper disposal of an animal carcass was overturned by the North Carolina court of appeals.
Where do 4,000 shelters dispose of their animal carcasses? Landfills, dumpsters, rendering plants where the bodies are processed into meat by-product in pet food?
Dr. Frank Mitloehner has documented a major flaw in a 2006 United Nations report about greenhouse gas emissions from livestock production. Today the BBC reports that the U.N. has taken notice. One of the authors of the 2006 Livestocks Long Shadow report now admits that its estimates comparing emissions from livestock farms with those from transportation are FLAWED. A favourite talking point of the vegan anti-meat activists has been shown to be based on Flawed estimates.
@CDLver Um, no, shelters are suppose to have all animal carcasses incinerated. They couldn't render euthanized animals bodies into consumable meat because of the euthasol...
Hard to believe, huh, but it is quite true. Euthanised dogs and cats are ground up and processed into pet food in rendering plants all across America. It is, in fact, big business. Just google it and read for yourself.
@linzee4584, my dog, (a pit bull) eats PetGuard brand dog food, it is a vegan all natural food with only organic ingredients and no slaughterhouse floor slop or ground up shelter animals.
I recommend PetGuard for your cats, who are not as easily made to eat vegan food. Dogs do much better at vegan food than do cats, but it can be done.
From March 2007 to date, there have been 995 separate recalls, many of the products more than once, of companion animal food due to parasitic and bacterial contamination.
How exactly is it animal abuse by not feeding my companion animal food consisting of the rotten flesh of a diseased carcass, who, at the time of slaughter, was consumed with open wounds oozing pus and blood?
Vet, Dr. Proctor, had been doing business with PETA since 2001, and for 4 years, it was revealed at trial, Proctor called PETA to take unwanted animals that were left abandoned at his private vet practice, the Ahoskie Animal Hospital.
The jury didn't believe Proctor when he said he didn't know that PETA euthanized animals, yet the CCF had been plastering their inflammatory "PETA Kills Animals" ads around the state for years.
Of course I read "Redemption." Every person in the trenches of animal rescue has. It makes sense, but sadly, his notion of no-kill faces many obstacles. One primarily from the manufacturers who sell those hideous gas chambers to shelters where animals are poisoned to death.
Winograd never considered the very strong lobby supporting kill shelters.
13 of the 22 pit bulls rescued from the CONvick have an incurable disease requiring life-long blood transfusions, or their organs will cease, and they will die.
By all means, adopt one of these battle-weary creatures, and tell all of your friends to do so, provided of course, you've got $40,000.
Best Friends received 400,000 for the care of the dogs, which will not cover half of the cost of their lifetime care.
No, not at all. I demand that my government stop spending 2 billion dollars a year killing homeless, abandoned animals, and spend that money to house, care for, and adopt them out.
I simply could not take on the financial burden of a dog that required 40,000 dollars in care. If you can, then great!
Your first rescue should be the Los Angeles County shelter--110 pit bulls died today. 110 will die tomorrow, and the next day, and every day thereafter.
probably did not need to die tell me did the shelter contact any pit specific rescue organizations?
"I simply could not take on the financial burden of a dog that required 40,000 dollars in care. If you can, then great!"
and yet PETA pushes for laws that make owners have to pay $100,000 liability insureance, some people can,t afford that either. Make it harder forpeople to keep and adopt pit bulls so angry tazpayes, such as yourself, have to pay to kill more dogs.
PETA's Community Animal Project responded to a call in Windsor, NC to investigate a report of "starved" dogs. The workers found 3 dead pit bulls still on chains: Mylie, Buck, and Roscoe, were skeletons.
PETA pursued criminal charges against Walter Overton in a state where animal cruelty charges are rarely pursued, and he was punished (with a slap on the wrist!).
Read this story, and then YOU tell me that the word ETHICAL in PETA does not apply to the pit bull dog.
the shelters have failed the pits. And thepeople who want to reform teh shelter systems so that no healthy adopatable animals have to be killed, like Nathan Winograd, PETA attacks him. So yes I do believe PETA has the blood of every adoptable pit in a shelter on their hands.
No one should go to jail ever for doing shit to animals, who give a fuck. There Animals. if you want to to torture animals who fucking cares, there animals not people , fucking idiots that cant tell the difference.
TheDukeljk 4 months ago
@TheDukeljk People can tell the difference between animals and people. But whats not different is that we both feel pain. You need to learn empathy. I don't think you would say that if a more intelligent beings came to us and started torturing us you would say that their smarter so let them torture us and kill us - who gives a fuck. If you think that Michael Vick was with PETA to learn a lesson, you're incredibly gullible. I hate Fox News as much as the next person but Michael Vick should have been doing much longer time for torturing a living creature.
MalachorWraith 1 year ago
@MalachorWraith I'm not disagreeing with anything you're saying. What I'm saying is that regardless of his reasons, people who abuse animals need to be taught a lesson. That includes both jailtime and rehabilitation. If there' s a chance to expose an animal abuser to information about why doing so is messed up, everyone agrees you do it.
JTsmiley14 1 year ago
@MalachorWraith dude...if he had gotten more than 5 years (which i think they were giving him a max of 10) then most of the other people who get off on manslaughter and second degree murder should be put to death. (humans != animals in terms of totem pole status; however people should respect their capacity to feel emotion)
of course i believe he should do time, but when you think about it, when is the last time youve seen a damn celebrity go to jail and stay there unless it was tax evasion?
JamesMcCloud 1 year ago
@JamesMcCloud
MalachorWraith 1 year ago
@MalachorWraith to each his own. I respect your opinion, but ill stick to my own. I can't compare the life of an animal to the life of another human being in the sense that its unnatural for a genetically higher species to do so. However, i do see your point.
Only in the specific case that the animal and human made a relationship so close that it would come to be seen as similar to a human friend would i compare any violent act cross-species , but thats for personal feelings of the couple.

Lottery and bingo too.
eqsmooth 2 years ago
Well. obviously u are ignorant of the fact that PETA attacks the horse racing business as well.

That's just wrong. I'm sorry, I'll debate someone on any topic apart from vegetarianism. I'm as liberal as they come but PETA really ticks me off. I'm all for fair treatment of animals but the way they push vegetarianism is seriously wrong and they lose a lot of support because of it. Animals do have rights and should be treated fairly but if we need to eat them then let the cycle of life happen. Shep is a v v good reporter btw.

JAKECUB100 2 years ago
1) When you refer to Vick as Shannon, you're not just mispronouncing a name.
2) PETA calls the BREEDING process unnatural, not the breed of the dog itself. It supports legislation that bans the breeding of pitbulls as much it calls for laws to ban puppymills and the breeding of other exotic animals.
It's about time you realized that you ARE a stupid moron.
veggiewarriors 2 years ago
1) What do you think will happen if you stop breeding pits?
2) PETA has done nothing to help Pits, even calling for the Mike Vick dogs to be killed for their own good.
3) PETA has very little credibility in the real world. Come visit us here sometime.

xrangerx 2 years ago 3
xranger, You are grossly misinformed.
CDLver 2 years ago
CDL,they killed over 95 percent of the animals(mainly dogs and cats)they took in cause they said they were all to aggresive or sick yet they have about 32mil dollar budget, they only saved 7 animals lives and found homes for them, while there are many other smaller shelters with smaller budgets finding homes for their animals, while being close to the location of Peta hq,nevertheless. Not to mention they want to kill pitbulls and are against pets and dogs for the blind.
Truth hurts, doesn't it?
Carbonman27 2 years ago
The truth, carbonman, is that PETA's website, helpinganimals, com promotes companion animal guardianship.
It's preposterous to say that PETA opposes animal guardianship. PETA vigorously promotes the responsible keeping of companion animals with their Community Animal Project, which provides doghouses, food, toys, and free vet care to dogs who spend their entire lives outdoors on a chain.
CDLver 2 years ago
Where did PETA state that they oppose the use of seeing eye dogs? You are watching too much penn & teller, carbonman. You do realise that they are a Las Vegas sideshow, eh.
Ms. Newkirk has stated that animals are not ours to eat, wear, experiment on, or use for entertainment.
Blind persons do not use animals for entertainment; they rely upon the dog for essential life matters, unlike a human being who makes circus animals perform for human beings, thus exploiting the animal for money.
CDLver 2 years ago
Of the 10,000 animals who came through PETA's door last year, 2,124 were euthanized, and they were brought in either by their guardians or a compassionate citizen for that purpose because the animal was terminally ill or fatally wounded. All healthy animals are referred to shelters such as the Norfolk SPCA, where the animal may not be taken in due to overcrowding. PETA provides free HUMANE euthanasia as well as sterilization to animals whose guardians cannot afford the service at a vet's office.
CDLver 2 years ago
Where did you read such nonsense that PETA wants to kill the pit bull dog, carbonman?
EVERY single day, PETA's Community Animal Project goes out on calls to rescue a Pit Bull with a head swollen the size of a melon from fighting wounds.
Asia, a female pit bull, weighing 31 pounds wearing a 14 pound chain, was starving to death when PETA came upon her lifeless body. Asia could not be saved, but PETA got justice for her -- vigorously pursuing a criminal conviction of Asia's killer.

StupidppllikeBSL 3 years ago
BSL does nothing to prevent animal abusers from fighting dogs. It is the animal fighter that must be punished, not the pit bull dog, and not responsible pit bull dog guardians, of which I am one, too.
For the last time, stupidppl, PETA does not want to ban the pit bull dog. PETA supports a breeding ban of MORE pit bulls, the same way they promote sterilization as a means to control the animal overpopulation crisis.
CDLver 3 years ago 2
for the last time I have presented you with articles from PETA's website AND an article written by Ingrid that BOTH uses the word BAN. If it was just about breeding, then why do the pits already born, in shelters have to die as well?
If you refuse to ackowledge that, that is NOT my problem.
StupidppllikeBSL 3 years ago
stupidppl, PETA's website, SavingAnimals, com states their position on the pit bull dog and BSL.
CDLver 3 years ago 5
um-the articlesI presented you with CDLvers were not written by breeders they were written by PETA.They were written by Ingrid Newkirk and by Daphana Nachminovitch, director of PETA's domestic animal and wildlife rescue and information department and was taken from PETA'S OWN WEBSITE.
So NOW you see PETA's hypocricy, say one thing and do another.
StupidppllikeBSL 3 years ago
No, stupidppl, the articles that you presented me with took excerpts from statements that were made by PETA, which were then craftily spun to suit the agenda of animal breeders who masquerade as dog fanciers.
What lends you to believe that everything I said was not based on "Redemption." Of course I read it.
CDLver 3 years ago 5

CDLver 3 years ago
Oh BOOO HOOO. You think PETA is the only one who has to do this??? Come on give me a break!! I have friends who run pit bull rescues, they deal with these problems everday as well and they don't have half the money and half the resources that PETA has. They rescue pitbulls from deplorable conditions and use their OWN money to do it.
StupidppllikeBSL 3 years ago
they then rehabilitate these animals and try find them homes, which has become more of a challenge due to all the anti-pit laws that you and PETA keep pushing. How many people will agree to adopt a dog that they are going to need a $100,000 liability insurance policy for or cannot take to a park or a walk outside w.o a muzzle. BSL makes it harder for adoptable pits to get adopted and that is why so many die in shelters.
StupidppllikeBSL 3 years ago
But there is no BSL in Los Angeles County. Why are 800 a week being euthanized?

PETA doesn't care about pit bulls or it would no be supporting Breed Specific Legislation. They do things like this to trick pit bull owners into thinking they are on their side, but they turn around and vote for all the legislations pit bull owners fight. You can read how Newkirk REALLY feels about pits in her article "some dogs are weapons - ban them" she agrees with mandatory euthanasia of all pits in shelters regardless of age, health and tempermant. Regardless of if they could find a home.
ferretnation88 3 years ago
PETA does not support banning the breed of Pit Bull dog. PETA does, however, support legislation that BANS THE BREEDING OF MORE PIT BULLS, just as they support any spay/neuter legislation as the most effective way to combat the animal overpopulation problem.
There's a clear distinction, yet you choose to craftily spin it.
Spay/neuter is a rational response, and Pit Bull rescue groups agree -- there's absolutely no excuse to breed more pit bull dogs when 1.25 million die in shelters.
CDLver 3 years ago
your obviously are the one in denial.
StupidppllikeBSL 3 years ago
google "Brians Law Could Prevent Future Tragedies, Says Group" you can find it on PETA's website. It reads:
"This morning, PETA sent an urgent letter to Dorchester County Council Chair Larry Hargett and other council members urging them to follow the lead of dozens of other jurisdictions across the country by banning or strictly regulating pit bull ownership."
StupidppllikeBSL 3 years ago
"More and more communities are realizing that the best way to prevent another tragic death like Brians is to enact a ban on acquiring pit bulls," says PETA Director Daphna Nachminovitch.
So basically they are just perpetuating the misconception that Pits are viscious which leads to bad people wanting to own them in the first place.
StupidppllikeBSL 3 years ago
PETA & HSUS pushed hard for the euthanasia of the vick pits. After taking in donations for the care of the dogs even though they were NEVER in their posession. "In most cases, pit bulls seized from dogfighting rings are euthanized, and as sad as that is to all of us, it may be the best thing to do for everyone concerned," PETA spokesman Dan Shannon said. Guess what the dogs are rehabilitated and one has become a therapy dog, so PETA is in no way an expert when it comes to pitbulls.
StupidppllikeBSL 3 years ago
"there's absolutely no excuse to breed more pit bull dogs when 1.25 million die in shelters."
There is absolutely no reason to support legislation that would involve more pitbulls being displaced and placed in shelters. There is no excuse for advocating the mandatory euthanasia of pits that enter a shelter even if it could be adopted. Do you think that would lower the euthanasia rates are increase them?
StupidppllikeBSL 3 years ago
Apparently the "ETHICAL" in PETA does not apply to pits.
StupidppllikeBSL 3 years ago
stupidppl, On the contrary, PETA's spent $7,458,494 of its 2007 donations on Public Outreach and Education with their Community Animal Project campaign, which helps animals in a hands-on way: PETA field workers build and deliver free doghouses, provide warm, dry, shelter to companion animals forced to live outdoors along with food, veterinary services, parasite prevention, and toys.

I was very impressed until they took a pitbull back to HQ and killed it because it had heartworms, which by the way is almost always cureable, so I'm not sure why they couldn't use some of that $7,458,494 to pay for some heartworm medication.
StupidppllikeBSL 3 years ago
stupidppl, You obviously did not see the condition of that poor creature rescued from that miserable human being. He obviously had advanced heartworm disease, was starved, his breathing labored, and he could not walk to the car. He was dying.
CDLver 3 years ago
HEARTWORMS IS CUREABLE! IF IT WAS STARVING FEED IT. Rescues all over this country deal with situations like these everday the difference is that they are willing to do w.e it takes to save a life. They have less money, less resources and yet they do more. If they had taken the time to help that dog to restore it back to health the dog could be alive and happy with a loving family right now.
StupidppllikeBSL 3 years ago
No, stupidppl, heartworm disease is not curable in its advanced stage. It is fatal, as evidenced by the dog's inability to breathe, his heart was ravaged by worms, unable to deliver oxygen to his lungs.
Tragically, he was not rescued in time to be saved.
CDLver 3 years ago

CDLver 3 years ago
if the animal could have been saved, PETA would have saved him
All those pit in shelters can be saved so why not save them? the vick pits could have been saved and were saved... But PETA wanted them euthanized. As for PETA's Community Animal Project I think it is very good because guess what pit bull rescues and ordinary citizens, including responsible pit owners have been doing this for years now and we don't seek for a pat on the back.
StupidppllikeBSL 3 years ago
The Vick dogs are a unique case -- a first ever full scale rescue, assessment, and rehabilitation of former fighting dogs. If not but for Judge Hudson ordering that Vick pay 975,000 for their care and rehabilitation, those poor creatures would've been euthanized.
Best Friends Animal sanctuary took 22 of the most difficult dogs of the 47 rescued. 2 of the 22 are court ordered to never leave the sanctuary. The sanctuary estimates their lifetime care to total 40,000 dollars each.
CDLver 3 years ago
No it was NOT a unique case we in the pit bull community have been dong this for YEARS. And guess what the pits at BF get fed and walked and they are played with which IMO and the DOGS opinions is a whole lot better than being DEAD. You should check out these dogs. Look up "from fighters to family pets" here on youtube and google "From Vick dog to therapy dog" all of which would be DEAD because of PETA.
StupidppllikeBSL 3 years ago 2
I know well of the suffering of the vick dogs; I have followed this case from the inception.
For years before vick was arrested, PETA reported fighting rings to the authorities in VA, and the police looked the other way.
CDLver 3 years ago
You are in the pit bull rescue community, yet you dismiss the importance of mandatory spay & neuter laws? Really.
EVERY single rescue group in the trenches of saving pit bull dogs promotes sterilization.
You sound like one of those "reputable breeders."
CDLver 3 years ago
REALLY. EVERY ONE? check out the Pitbull Rescue Center, NewHope Pit Bull Rescue,Mike's dog house,Pitbull Advocates for Compassion& Kindness,Homeward Bound rescue,Recycle-a-Bull pitbull rescue and the Villalobos Rescue Center all promote VOLUNRATY sterilization, including myself. My pit Dolly is steralized and she has never had any pups, but thanks for the dumb assmuptions.
StupidppllikeBSL 3 years ago 2
you know who else is against MSN but all for voluntray s/n? The Illinois State Veterinary Medical Association, The American College of Theriogenologists and The Society for Theriogenology. A theriogenologist is a specialist in the reproductive systems of animals.

Frustrated by the obscene number of abandoned animals being euthanized every day, stupidppl?
As a tax-payer, you should be outraged that your dollars are being spent to suffocate animals in gas chambers, when such money could be used to SAVE them.
Write your lawmakers. Demand that no-kill shelters have an open-admission policy. Then PETA won't be forced to clean up after society's mess.
CDLver 3 years ago
I do not support shelters that kill dogs in gas chambers, that is why I support no-kill. Open admissionis the goal for every true no-kill shelter, of course it won't happen over night more and more shelters are converting to no-kill now.
StupidppllikeBSL 3 years ago
"Demand that no-kill shelters have an open-admission policy"
Are you then going to help support these same shelters and lift them up, unlike PETA who has made it a life goal to discredit them. How do you scream they don't work! they don't work and do nothing to help them?
"Then PETA won't be forced to clean up after society's mess."
No one forced PETA to do anything. As i have said the pitbull community has been doing this for yearswithout complaint.
StupidppllikeBSL 3 years ago
Which shelters, stupidppl, has PETA discredited? Those gassing animals to death in metal boxes? Those who hang dogs and cats by their scruff and stab them with a needle into the heart? Those who cage, confine, and keep animals in despicable conditions?
PETA does help support shelters, and uses its member donations for that very purpose.
CDLver 3 years ago 3
I was saying that PETA discredits NO-KIL SHELTERS.PETA has never come out in favor of ONE no-kill shelter. Most of PETA's donations go into outrageous and stupid campaign stunts like comparing the tragic beheading of Tim McLean to that of a chicken before his body was even in the ground and parading around naked women. I know small-scale shElters that do more than PETA with half the donation money.
StupidppllikeBSL 3 years ago
On the contrary, stupidppl, PETA spent 240,000 dollars cleaning up the despicable shelter system in Bertie County North Carolina, when in 2000, PETA was called by a police officer who reported that starving dogs at the Bertie Shelter were eating dead animals.
PETA vigorously supports the humane housing of abandoned animals, but this is not always the case as evidenced by their undercover investigations of some no-kill shelters, namely All Creatures Great & Small.
CDLver 3 years ago 6
ah but just because someone calls itself no-kill does not make it no-kill. Any shelter that is despicable cannot call itself a shelter, let alone a no-kill shelter. All creatures great & small and Bertie wereNOT following the no-kill equations and was not what we in the movement would call a no-kill shelter.
StupidppllikeBSL 3 years ago
And YOU should thank PETA for exposing Bertie and All Creatures, yet you condemn them, and for what? Their undercover investigations into those two shelters saved hundreds of abandoned animals!
Stop blaming PETA for having to clean up after society's sloppiness.
CDLver 3 years ago 5
the No Kill Advocy Center just won a lawsuit against the shelter system in Los Angeles County for all the unlawful and abusive treatment of animals at all six Los Angeles County animal shelters. Google "Lawsuit alleges LA shelters neglect, abuse animals" and google "Dead puppy at shelter spurs suit." I condemn PETA for bad talkig the no-kill movement I thank them for exposing Bertie and All Creatures.

StupidppllikeBSL 3 years ago
Best Friends is the best example of what a no-kill shelter can do for abandoned animals who would otherwise die in a shelters.
Best Friends has an annul budget (equal to PETA's) of 30 million dollars, and can HUMANELY house 1,500 animals at their facility.
Now, stupidppl, what shall we do with the other 27,473 who will die today? Tomorrow? Every day for the next 365 days?
CDLver 3 years ago 5
how many does PETA humanely house?
"Now, stupidppl, what shall we do with the other 27,473 who will die today? Tomorrow? Every day for the next 365 days?"
I thought you said you had read Redemption.
StupidppllikeBSL 3 years ago
PETA isn't a shelter nor do they have a facility where animals can be humanely housed for adoption.
If PETA is euthanizing animals, it's because the shelters, not PETA, couldn't find homes for them.
PETA is an animal rights organization serving the needs of ALL exploited animals around the world, including dogs and cats.
PETA provides humane euthanasia to animals who would otherwise be gassed to death in metal boxes or sold into a life of animal experimentation.
Clear?
CDLver 3 years ago 6
what about those healthy animals thrown into the dumpster by PETA employees? are you trying to tell me they were not adopable when veterinarians have comeout and said in the court case that they actually were including a mother cat a her kittens and a young dalmation puppy?
If PETA isn't a shelter either build one or stop collecting animals
Clear?
StupidppllikeBSL 3 years ago
PETA will never turn its back on an animal in need, even when that means taking in animals who are diseased, badly injured, aggressive, or elderly—animals who have little to no chance of being adopted or helped by anyone else—and providing them with a painless release from a world that does not want them.
CDLver 3 years ago 6
who says they are not wanted. Stop supporting ridiculous laws that make it harder for people to own animals and you will see more adoptions. All of thoseanimals you describe above have been adopted out by no-kill shelters, have you ever volunteered at one?
StupidppllikeBSL 3 years ago
What law hinders people from adopting the 27,473 abandoned animal who die every day in 4,000 U.S. taxpayer funded kill shelters?
CDLver 3 years ago 3
BSL laws which like OHIO makes pit bulls outlaws and laws which make people have to hold high insurance policies and must keep the dog inside the house all of them time if they adopted it. BSL affects 26 dog brees in the United States. Then there are laws like MSN which have been proven to increase shelter intake once they are implemented making it harder for the animals already in shelters to get adopted.
StupidppllikeBSL 3 years ago 2
Why do you suppose then, stupidppl, that Adria Hinkle was found NOT guilty of 3 felony counts of receiving animals under false pretenses from Dr. Proctor's vet clinic?
Perhaps the jury did not find Dr. Proctor credible, huh? Proctor himself, it was revealed at trial, was contracted by the Hertford County Shelter to humanely euthanize animals who were old, sick, or otherwise unadoptable, and PETA, not the taxpayers, paid him for this service to the county.
CDLver 3 years ago 5
are you saying that they did not dump animals into adumpster?
StupidppllikeBSL 3 years ago
if they were going to euthanize them they could have just done it at the shelter. I don't see why they had to take them in the van and THEN kill them. Only someone who has something to hide would have done that.
StupidppllikeBSL 3 years ago
PETA is a hypocrite their stance on BSL proves it.
StupidppllikeBSL 3 years ago 3
I realize your frustration, stupidppl. 1.25 million pit bull dogs are dying every year in shelters for want of a home, not counting those who die in fighting pits, of starvation, brutalized, beaten, made snarling beasts on chains while they languish in a backyard somewhere. PETA knows well. We see it every day.
Do something about it. Don't stew because PETA supports mandatory breeding bans of MORE pit bull dogs.
We can only stop killing animals if we stop breeding more of them.
CDLver 3 years ago 7
"Don't stew because PETA supports mandatory breeding bans of MORE pit bull dogs."
Ok I'll just stew about the part where PETA wants the pits already born and in shelters killed just because they are pit bulls. I'll do that instead.
StupidppllikeBSL 3 years ago
Adria Hinkle testified at trial why she felt the need to dispose of the 18 animal carcasses in the dumpster. The single conviction for improper disposal of an animal carcass was overturned by the North Carolina court of appeals.
Where do 4,000 shelters dispose of their animal carcasses? Landfills, dumpsters, rendering plants where the bodies are processed into meat by-product in pet food?

@CDLver

They couldn't render euthanized animals bodies into consumable meat because of the euthasol...
linzee4584 1 year ago
@linzee4584, wrong.
Hard to believe, huh, but it is quite true. Euthanised dogs and cats are ground up and processed into pet food in rendering plants all across America. It is, in fact, big business. Just google it and read for yourself.

@CDLver That's really effed up.... >=0 May be time to look into a raw feed diet for my cats. Going to go throw up now...
linzee4584 1 year ago
@linzee4584, my dog, (a pit bull) eats PetGuard brand dog food, it is a vegan all natural food with only organic ingredients and no slaughterhouse floor slop or ground up shelter animals.
I recommend PetGuard for your cats, who are not as easily made to eat vegan food. Dogs do much better at vegan food than do cats, but it can be done.
CDLver 1 year ago
@CDLver Cant you see that that is animal abuse? It will shorten the length and quality of life for your dog.
James92802 1 year ago
From March 2007 to date, there have been 995 separate recalls, many of the products more than once, of companion animal food due to parasitic and bacterial contamination.
How exactly is it animal abuse by not feeding my companion animal food consisting of the rotten flesh of a diseased carcass, who, at the time of slaughter, was consumed with open wounds oozing pus and blood?
CDLver 1 year ago
Proctor hadn't heard that rumour, huh?
CDLver 3 years ago 6
Of course I read "Redemption." Every person in the trenches of animal rescue has. It makes sense, but sadly, his notion of no-kill faces many obstacles. One primarily from the manufacturers who sell those hideous gas chambers to shelters where animals are poisoned to death.
Winograd never considered the very strong lobby supporting kill shelters.
CDLver 3 years ago 6
really?...maybe you should read it again... or for the first time.
StupidppllikeBSL 3 years ago
13 of the 22 pit bulls rescued from the CONvick have an incurable disease requiring life-long blood transfusions, or their organs will cease, and they will die.
By all means, adopt one of these battle-weary creatures, and tell all of your friends to do so, provided of course, you've got $40,000.
Best Friends received 400,000 for the care of the dogs, which will not cover half of the cost of their lifetime care.
CDLver 3 years ago
so then lets kill them instead? is that what you are saying?
StupidppllikeBSL 3 years ago
No, not at all. I demand that my government stop spending 2 billion dollars a year killing homeless, abandoned animals, and spend that money to house, care for, and adopt them out.
I simply could not take on the financial burden of a dog that required 40,000 dollars in care. If you can, then great!
Your first rescue should be the Los Angeles County shelter--110 pit bulls died today. 110 will die tomorrow, and the next day, and every day thereafter.
CDLver 3 years ago 2
probably did not need to die tell me did the shelter contact any pit specific rescue organizations?
"I simply could not take on the financial burden of a dog that required 40,000 dollars in care. If you can, then great!"
and yet PETA pushes for laws that make owners have to pay $100,000 liability insureance, some people can,t afford that either. Make it harder forpeople to keep and adopt pit bulls so angry tazpayes, such as yourself, have to pay to kill more dogs.
StupidppllikeBSL 3 years ago
PETA's Community Animal Project responded to a call in Windsor, NC to investigate a report of "starved" dogs. The workers found 3 dead pit bulls still on chains: Mylie, Buck, and Roscoe, were skeletons.
PETA pursued criminal charges against Walter Overton in a state where animal cruelty charges are rarely pursued, and he was punished (with a slap on the wrist!).
Read this story, and then YOU tell me that the word ETHICAL in PETA does not apply to the pit bull dog.
CDLver 3 years ago
stupidppl, Surely you are not suggesting that Los Angeles County is euthanizing 800 Pit Bull dogs a week because PETA told them to do so, are you?
In 4,000 taxpayer funded shelters across America, 1.25 million Pit Bulls die every year, and in most cases it is not done humanely.
Do not blame PETA because society has miserably failed to protect their most vunerable animal.
What is your solution to the animal overpopulation crisis?
CDLver 3 years ago
the shelters have failed the pits. And thepeople who want to reform teh shelter systems so that no healthy adopatable animals have to be killed, like Nathan Winograd, PETA attacks him. So yes I do believe PETA has the blood of every adoptable pit in a shelter on their hands.
