Reminds me of Heatwave by the Vandellas, there's a reference to this song on Laura Nyros version of Dancing in the streets [ originally by Martha and the Vandellas of course] wotever, this is a great tune and stands by itself.

Tina Britts is the original & the best version.I think Betty Everett also had it on an LP.Tina Britts version is in a real cool 80's movie about a teen dance show that starred Donovan Leitch, Jr. The name of the movie escapes me but it was realistic.

I never heard the Chiffons version. I'm searching the Internet but can't find it. Have any idea where I can find the Chiffons version. Thanks. ( I doubt though it's as good as Tina Britt's version.)

Originally, "The Real Thing" was only found as the B-side to the Chiffons 45 "Nobody Knows (What's Going on in My Mind But Me)", a song that only reached #50 on the singles chart. It doesn't appear on SWEET TALKIN' GUY (the album containing "Nobody Knows") or any of the group's LPs released in the '60s. Some Chiffons CDs include the song; the ONE FINE DAY CD even mentions "The Real Thing" on the cover!
