You were a participant at Indie Fest! An honor. I heard you mention a zombie movie. I almost feel bad about tackling the zombie genre. I do not quite take it seriously as a worthy sub-genre of horror. My interest is in taking something that is kind of silly and attempting to generate a build of tension, with only hints as to what haunts the survivors (two so far). Looked like a good time. I'm reallllllllllly feeling this desire to try a longer film on a low budget. I need people!!!
Kenrg, this is a wonderful video: it's smart, well edited and personal. I feel so happy for you! You've regained my respect (since 5 minutes ago upon watching your renetto response vid) for you and your work - plus, I laughed out loud at your intro! haha the k is back in enrg! 5 stars :-)
I hadn't been there for close to 25 years (and even now I didn't go in Disneyland, just to the "Downtown") and it's amazing how it's changed in just that amount of time.
I've never understood the fascination with zombies. Grave hunting, however...totally fun. I watched your preview and it makes me want to see the rest.
Thanks - I suppose my film would have done better if instead of a straight documentary we'd been attacked by some flesh-eating un-dead. Oh well, next time!
There's just a three minute rough cut of the opening posted on my account here - just search the title: Gravehunting With Steve -- The full 24 minutes isn't posted anywhere yet. Eventually, I'm sure I'll put the full movie up, but after I submit it to another couple of festivals.
I'm pretty sure Lone Pine is restricted to films that were shot there. It's a celebration of the location and its history more than anything. I'd still love to go there. I hear Ann Francis shows up every year for the screening of Bad Day at Black Rock.
Wait... you were at Indie Fest USA?! *I* was at Indie Fest USA! So was Ann Spade! We were there with Director Paul Streiner for his short film "Zombie Kings", in which Ann played a Zombie Hunter. I was there at the opening reception, and award show. How did I not see you?
Well, glad you had a great time and congrats on being in the festival!!
I was there for the screening of Zombie Kings (but not the opening or closing receptions) - I must have walked right by all of your, including Ann, about 100 times and never registered that there were people there that I knew. I didn't even realize that was Ann in the film until I saw her posting on Facebook after I got home. Of course, I feel like a complete idiot for that.
Ah! I see what happened! You were there for everything BUT the opening and closing receptions. Ann was only there for the opening, and I was only there for the opening and award show. That's why we missed each other. In a way, I feel much better now... though it would have been awesome to see you there! :-)
(the director, Paul Streiner, was there for the entire festival)
I did consider it an honor just to be included, as cliche as that may be. I'd love to go to ST3, but I just spent all my travel money/time! I do need to do more than just the usual SF YT gatherings.
I'm surprised to hear about how this compared to YT gatherings. Wow.
You SHOULD feel good about the whole thing. How cool to have your hard work involved in something like that - and to experience it with your brother, even better.
Sounds like a successful showing! Any other film festivals lined up? I know there's a film festival in Lone Pine every October. I'm not sure if that would be an appropriate venue, but it might be...
That's so exciting brother! Keep up the good work- I'm certainly jealous

You need people? Well, I've always heard that people (people who need people) are the luckiest people in the world! Congratulations!

Wish I could have experienced that in person, Ken..

You looked right at home there on the red carpet Ken!
Next year you should make "Grave Hunting With The D-Cup Zombies". That should really pack em in, LOL.

My wife said she's rarely seen me happier. Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got some D-Cup Zombies to cast...

Cool! Just to participate in a festival is something special...

Well done Ken. It's good to see you got to go on the red carpet at least once in your life. here's to many more such outings.
Those fireworks didn't start all the forest fires did they? :)
andymooseman 2 years ago
I'm thinking of putting in a red carpet in the house, just so I can practice posing for the press late nights at home. We should all try that!

When I was a teen I did a few Super-8 and student shows - but nothing like this.

Ok now come home to ST3 we are waiting with open arms to hug ya!!!

Repo the Movie, that show is so staged.Looks like great time.
kidblood1 2 years ago
Oh, yeah - Repo was highly staged with no attempt to hide it - but, yes, a very fun picture, and a great time all week.
kenrg 2 years ago
Hats off to you Ken! Glad it was a good experience.
Have you greenlighted the next project?
thefrozenghost 2 years ago
Thanks - The next project has a working title of "A Short Film About Art." Unless I do something else instead.
kenrg 2 years ago
I would LOVE to go to Lone Pine! Any chance?
steve5674 2 years ago
... Just looked it up... seems like classic westerns, program set for 2009, nothing about entries on the web site.

PRETTY FIREWORKS!
8-)

The nightly Disney fireworks is the one advantage to living in Anaheim, they say - at least, they say it till they go deaf.
kenrg 2 years ago
This was ALMOST a YT gathering since both Ann and I were also at Indie Fest USA!! But we totally missed Ken!! :-(
projectblogsphere 2 years ago
Oh for crying out loud - it never even occurred to me that you and Ann were at the same event.
Yeah.... I can be slow sometimes.
If you guys missed one another then it had to have been a pretty large crowd.
