If you watch closely, their teeth were not even close. Just a Shiba Snark. In KC we used to have shiba playgroups and it's always a blast! And actually, it's any type of dogs in a large group and food or toy resources. The breed does not matter. I have three in my household right now!
Actually this was just a generally bad idea. Shibas - while in the right hands can be the best dogs ever - are generally anti-social, tempermental and stubborn. Having a whole PACK of them together can cause problems as it is... Adding food to the mix could make any dog snap - shibas especially.
@Nyowpotopop - I highly beg to differ. I go to monthly Shiba Inu meetups and this sort of thing rarely happens. Proper socialization and training of any breed prevents these incidents.
ALL DOGS ARE PACK ANNIMLAS, WHICH CAME FROM WOLFS..THERE NOT CUTE..THERE NOT YOUR BABY..THEY ARE PACK ANNIMALS THAT WILL KILL AND DEFEND THERE TERITORITY. ITS NEVER THE DOG. LOL!! This was epic. But that's dogs..it's nothing weird or out of the norm, I'd say, at least not from what I've experienced. Just lucky that the girl didn't get "caught" by the fangs by accident.
Ya how surprising that a dog fight broke out when one person is sitting between 10 dogs with a bag of treats being dumped into her hand.... think people, i don't even bring treats to the damn park when i know i'm going to encounter dogs, they'll either sit by you the entire time begging for food or once you do start treating them a high chance atleast one of them is gona get jealous and lash out
@Zexi0n1 I dunno about that...some dogs have something wrong in their head.
My family has always raised our dogs the same way: lovingly, and firmly. Every golden retriever and german sheperd we ever had turned out fantastic.
....except for one. We had adopted two german sheperd puppies...one of them turned out fine. The other one, for some reason, was vicious to everyone--including us. Worse, he was crazy strong...he broke all the chains we put him on. We had to put him down. :(
@Corona1400 We didn't want to. He broke his chain and attacked someone. We had no choice. I was seriously bummed about it...since we were unable to keep him restrained (no matter how hard we tried), the police dubbed him too dangerous to keep alive. We still feel like dicks for doing it, believe me. :(
@BojikArc yah, i feel you. Shibas are by far the toughest breed ever. They take so much of your attention to train because they get mentally bored so fast.
Some breeds are just naturally rougher than others.
It's nothing a little training and love can't fix, and it's not like dogs, or humans for that matter, are born "evil".
Take wolves for example. You may think you can raise it properly, even if you got it JUST after birth. It'll still have wolf instincts from generations of it.
Honestly, whose idea was it to bring food into the picture with a ton of dogs crowding around (let alone shibas)?! Don't get me wrong, they are my absolute FAVORITE breed ever, but they are known for being cut-throat vicious when they are challenged.
Dog 1:FOOD! Dog 2: my food back up Dog 1: (grabs food) Dog2: (rar!) attacks other dog Dog1: i kill you (fight) 5 minutes later Animal control arives ties up both dogs ACG:MY FOOD!
I have a Shiba Inu... He's very competitive and selfish and vicious. Well, not to me of course because he knows me and loves me, but if you don't know my dog, do NOT look him in the eye O_o
@subhumanprimate That's the breed, and it's a positive trait when handled correctly by the Alpha Guardian/Owner! My Shiba would take a bullet for me! They are not cuddly lap dogs, please get the word out! For people who like independent, fiercely loyal, affectionate after a while, dog/cat, then Shibas are IT! Otherwise, get a more cuddly less alpha breed, eg, retriever, lab, Cavalier King Charles (this breed, btw, was bred to be a lapdogs to sit on the laps of the royals.)
My shiba is the exact same way. He obeys me very well but is easily distracted and loses his mind occasionally when we go on walks. The most unfortunate part is that he (occasionally) behaves so viciously that people are scared of him, not realizing that he goes from 60-0 as quickly as he does 0-60.
@MaviieMoo my shiba does the same thing. if you do some research there is a thing i read about how they are very intelligent and have a good sense of their enviroment. My shiba respects my grandfater the most because he runs the house, then my grandma, then me. If you notice the shiba is like a wolf and has the same wolf characteristics like a heirarchy of whos who in the pack or household. thats why they are aggressive towards certain people and are loving to you.
@MaviieMoo Sounds like owner needs training, to let the dog get to this point, its not the dogs fault its always the asshole on the other end of the leash, saying, look how cute my dog is, or look at my baby, there not cute, there not babbies, they are pack annimals, i suggest you do some reading instead of spending all your time on here..you might learn something.get control of your Dog.!!!
I have 2 shibas, 3 and 4 years old, both male. they always fight like that. they've never been hurt! except for a couple bite marks lol. the 3 year old attacks if anyone goes near it when hes asleep! its funny as hell! sometimes he attacks for no reason! i love it! hes a freak!
They still look cute as they are fighting. lol and to you who think this means i believe in dog fights, no. I am saying that this dog is always cute. so please please please don't take that out of context.
I have one and she is the sweetest dog. Never goes in the house and loves other dogs. EXCEPT when they continuously get into her face. She went after my GF's dog like this and I had to grab her and pull her off
wow... i feel nurvous moving in with my roomates cuz i feel like my dog will be like that to their cat... but my dog didnt reall fight with my parot at first.. she got really excited and tryed rough housing with the parot like she does with me... the parot pecked her once an now she stays clear.. shell sniff it but thats about it.. i hope my beagle will be the same with the cat,,, =/
I have two Shibas and we have to keep them away from each other because the younger one has fear aggression and if we have food or we buy them new toys they will attack each other and that scares the shit out of me. One day Sandy and I were out playing in the yard and my mom let Winter[ the one with fear aggression] out. As soon as she came out, Winter went right for Sandy and I had to break up the fight and I got bit, but not bad. I have broken up two fights, so they cant be together anymore.
@subhumanprimate i think it depends on your particular dog(s), but a lot of the time it's just an attempt at establishing who the 'pack leader' is. its quite common, for shibas at least, if they don't live together or know each other.
I love my Shiba..Shes absolutely insane, and has a personality unlike any other dog Ive owned, which says alot. Shes weary of strangers but an absolute Dog's dog. She loves other dogs, especially big ones, and likes to bit their butts and get them to chase her. Shiba's are pretty deceptively quick.
OMG what was that lady thinking, you dont frickin feed a dog in the middle of 15 other dogs, that just says "hey come bite this dog, he's getting a treat" you dont do that, dogs like dominance, specialy shiba's,boxers and Bull masiffs.
My 2 year old shiba will attack not for food, but when I touch or hold another dog. Shibas are just attention-grabbing divas, but you can't stop falling in love with them!
my Shiba is the total opposite of normal breed behaviour. he's very docile, quiet, and very gentle with my 19-month-old niece. in fact, i remember my mom and i were told by the vet that he's unlike any other Shiba they've dealt with. we got him from a shelter, so i'm guessing the family he lived with before was uber-horrible to him because he's afraid of almost everything. i feel so bad. i wish i could find out who his last family was, find them, and kick their asses.
it's possible but it could just be he's a beta male who wasn't raised properly - you can't assume he was beaten just b/c he's afraid of things - skittishness is also a trait of many Shibas
oh my god. dude, my Shiba is the exact same as yours. we found our Shiba on the streets years ago, looking so horrible and lonely. all the books ive read about them said they were supposed to be hyper and energetic, but mine is very tranquil and pleasant, and rarely ever makes noises. the vets told me she showed signs of being raised by a breeder, and i guess she was treated horribly there too, because she gets all jumpy at things like closing doors, grabbing sticks, etc. its so sad...
@moldypanda - I'm a dog trainer, and he does sound like a rather atypical shiba. That said, your dog's former family may never have abused him. It's just as likely that he was never exposed to various stimuli (they may have kept him in the house and not introduced to enough sights/sounds/smells/dogs/people while he was young). A common sign of abuse is if the dog always angles his body toward people and turns his head so that he can see his entire body.
janaoo4 - you should look at rescue - puppies are cute but a pain is the tush and they aren't puppies for long - there are also lots of problems with bad breeders out there.
I would love that however my room mate has a pet rabbit. I know that prey drive is a very strong thing and I can only repress it by teaching them to socialize with the bunny from a young age. We where able to do this with a Jack Russel and you know how they are lol. I'm in MB Canada.
its actually sort of funny how civil they rest of them were. When the two dogs were fighting some tried to leave without looking back some stayed and watched without getting involved. LOL its not like it became some huge animal brawl. lol.
I believe shiba means redwood, like the brushes in which they hunted small game. As well, the Japanese named them that because their coats were very similar to the color of the redwood foliage.
The music choice made me lol

Even with 2 treats (one for each), my two dogs still put up a fight. So with that many dogs and one person giving treats, it was bound to happen.
I just let them be, they'll quit sometimes. Mostly after like 10 seconds... As if us humans never get into a small fight ;)

my Shiba is the total opposite of normal breed behaviour. he's very docile, quiet, and very gentle with my 19-month-old niece. in fact, i remember my mom and i were told by the vet that he's unlike any other Shiba they've dealt with. we got him from a shelter, so i'm guessing the family he lived with before was uber-horrible to him because he's afraid of almost everything. i feel so bad. i wish i could find out who his last family was, find them, and kick their asses.

it's possible but it could just be he's a beta male who wasn't raised properly - you can't assume he was beaten just b/c he's afraid of things - skittishness is also a trait of many Shibas

oh my god. dude, my Shiba is the exact same as yours. we found our Shiba on the streets years ago, looking so horrible and lonely. all the books ive read about them said they were supposed to be hyper and energetic, but mine is very tranquil and pleasant, and rarely ever makes noises. the vets told me she showed signs of being raised by a breeder, and i guess she was treated horribly there too, because she gets all jumpy at things like closing doors, grabbing sticks, etc. its so sad...

But she's lucky now coz she found you. Well done for taking her in.
I'm sure you'll bring her trust back.

As if I'm looking for a Shiba Inu breeder and there's none to be found and there's a bunch of shiba's in this little room. So jealous.

janaoo4 - you should look at rescue - puppies are cute but a pain is the tush and they aren't puppies for long - there are also lots of problems with bad breeders out there.

LOL its not like it became some huge animal brawl. lol.

in old japanese it means small, in new japanese it means a type of red shrub.
iloverandomness007 2 years ago 2
shiba means small. i had two, and they did that all the time.
iloverandomness007 2 years ago
I believe shiba means redwood, like the brushes in which they hunted small game. As well, the Japanese named them that because their coats were very similar to the color of the redwood foliage.

shibas are primitive dogs and should not go to people inexperienced in raising dogs.
