  • i wish my college friends have heard this song.... :(

  • magickja c s u c k m y d i c k

  • the Bass player - Baker- is dead too. Heroin...

  • @mattywalnutz mike mcreedy and baker were buddies in a rehab center

  • one of my favorite songs

  • come as you are

  • grunge + jazz = grazz

  • So, God Smack named their band after an Alice in Chains song...Ripped off Layne's voice and the musical style of AIC and MS...now it also appears that their song "I'm not the one whose so far away, when I feel the snake bite enter my veins" is a direct ripoff of this song. What a bunch of douche bags.

  • Not a big fan of God Smack but at least they are trying to recreate something that was great unlike some other bands so stop hating on them

  • No...they're not trying to "recreate" anything..it seems that they're trying to capitalize (to the point of plagiarism) on the success of a band much better than they are. It goes in line with the whole Nirvana-wannabe generation. Think of how many singers ripped off Eddie Vedder..ie; Scott Stapp and about 75% of the other shitty "rock" singers that came out after he hit the scene..Jeez, Dishwalla, Hootie, etc. etc. It's not about the music it's about making a profit with someone else's soul.

  • hey fuck you godsmak is a great band

  • No, Godsmack is a copycat who has capitalized on music that is much better than what they have ever produced.

Their lyrics suck too. Whiskey Hangover? Haha...that's a GOOD song! haha...It's studio, vanilla rock n' roll...just like Nickelback and Creed.

  • what ever man you can think what you want

  • As can you...

  • layne staley.....lo mejor , el lado mas oscuro del grunge.... live forever

  • I always liked Madseason LIVE versus the CD. Something bout Layne singing LIVE that is just so much better. One of the FEW FEW FEW singers that sound better live!

    RIP LAYNE and John!

  • Is this on dvd i never seen this....oh fuck yeah this version is fucking sick mark langen and layne together live.....mad season was the shit..

  • it was released on VHS. you can find it on ebay probably. Don't know if they ever released it on dvd. great show though.

  • RIP Layne.

  • oh f**k yeah!

  • Layne tears it up

  • I love Layne, it´s a shame hi was a really great singer but unfortunatelly his life was a mess.. the drugs do that!! as singer Layne was the man!!

  • Hell yes!!!

  • weno!!

  • The CD version of this song is crap compared to this. This is more natural and plays more with the song.

  • I would agreed..this live version sounds much more harmonic and is just more natural and flowing.

  • This also shows Layne has such a voice that he can harmonize with practically anyone

  • Go ahead and chief it up Mark :P

  • I don't think thats a tobacco cigarette Mark is holding there!!!

  • man, stop it! i'm out!

  • Great f-ing song all around!

  • awesome - layne was the man I tell ya.....the broke the mold after him.

    good shit

  • This Performance = Musical Poetry

  • Layne was kick arse mon..hey i used German and jamaican there..lol great music all of them are great

  • isn't arse more of a scottish thing? didn't you watch Braveheart?

  • this has too be my favorite seattle supergroup

  • Words can't describe respect for Layne...RIP brother

  • Layne rulessssssssssss.

    respect.

  • alice in chains + screaming trees + pearl jam = mad season RIP layne

  • This is real music

  • Man 1997 this song and album hepled me get through some rough stuff. Its not depressing at all. Layne said things each one of us felt. If you say he didnt you either dont feel anyhing or your lying!!!!

  • oh helI I remember seein this a few years before Layne passed and was so shocked by his spiral downward....still an amazing voice coming out of that tiny frame...I have always loved Alice & Mad Season from the get go...RIP Layne Staley

  • nice mom, pycothic...

  • lanegans hair is awesome

  • god they were good and lanegans hair rules

  • Oh Layne! Looks so good here! RIP!

  • My mom got me into mad season

  • PAS ON SENSE THE BEST

  • I LOVE YOU

  • lol, at the end of the song the saxophon player plays a short phrase of "come as you are" ^^

At first i realised it at 4: 50.

  • I noticed that too

  • Why r u thumbs downing this? Its true.

  • Comment removed

  • It indeed sounds like it, but it could be coincidence. That riff from Come as You Are is very simply played and often just comes out as one is improvising. The riff wasn't even that original in the first place. It's like the riff from NIB and Sunshine of Your Love, etc. It's a common riff.

  • love this song

  • Ok....I admit I missed it......

"come on down my babe my" vs "teenage angst has paid off well"

    FIVE NOTES....ONE descending phrase

.....DOES NOT CONSTITUTE a "rip off"

  • motley crue ripped off sex pistols sfw

  • "I fear again, like then, I've lost my way

And shout to God to bring my sunny day "

    Layne Staley Forever

  • the songs are not the same in the least....

  • HOW? in what way?

NONE OF THIS SOUNDS ANYTHING like that song...not the writing...not the instruments....not the chord progression...not the rhythem...not the feel or genre or vocal style....I mean..>REALLY.....what the hell are you hearing that sounds like nirvana AT ALL?!?!?!

  • It doesnt sound genre wise like it. If you study music theory you would know based on the notes he sings

  • you dumb ass...I have a BA in music from Berklee....you flipping nit wit

the melodic curve of these two songs is nothing alike

  • Yeah music education is fucking useless. Waste of precious fucking three years. And nitwit is one word by itself you fucking idiot. Do you know wonderwall by Oasis? Believe it or not its a clear ripoff from Smells like teen spirit. I bet you wouldnt be able to see that either. Do you know About a girl by Nirvana is a ripoff from Saw her standing there.

  • go watch the Pachelbel Rant again...

ALL MUSIC is also something else

there are ONLY a few note combinations and cadences that sound good to the average person's ear.

    Yes, I agree...academics are idiots...

    I'll take a second look.....maybe I am wrong.

  • at first I thought..you might be on to something....maybe...so I went back...I listened didn't hear the simularity anywhere.

...you are just DEAD WRONG....you MUST be thinking of a different song then serve the servants.....because there is NOTHING even remotely similar there

  • Paul Kellerman is playing the bass!!! hauhauhau

  • ----------L-O-n-g-- g-O-N-e-- D-a-Y----------

  • Everyday each time the place was saved The music that we made

The wind has carried all of that away

    Long gone day :)

  • Isn't it so strange

How far away we all are now

Am I the only one who remembers that summer

    Oh, I remember

  • ya i agree emo shit and the tight ass pants the fans ware are just so damn funny ha ha.

    R.I.P Layne

  • best song ever in my opinion. im 17 so i was too little to remember these bands. now my generation is stuck with gay ass emo shit. im in a grunge band and you have no idea how hard it was to pull together good musicians that were interested in playing it. and its even harder to get shows to play but ppl like us. mayb me and the small minority of others who feel the way i do about this music can snap the rest of this generation out of there emo comas.

  • Oh my God, Im in the same boat as you are man, emo is smuthering our world of youth and slowly depleting their minds to nothing but dirt and shit. We have to bring something that's not wasted words and breathe. The world is getting worse as we know it, at least grunge is representative of something that shows signs of emotion and love. We have to flush out this ignorance is bliss bullshit.

  • im 33 and i witnessed guns n roses kill the hair bands of the eighties, then grunge (pearl jam, nirvana, alice in chains, and soundgarden) killed guns and roses shortly thereafter. a few years of "alternative" rock (which i dont know what it was an alternative to), then all that was left was underground metal and old school stuff, unless you stuck with fagass metallica, which i didnt. neways one day a band will come along and make all these emo faggots wake up to their faggotry.

  • Actually Axl killed GnR, I don't think grunge did.

  • yeah dude thats what im hopeing on a band that will come along and kill of all this shit music thats out now this has by far been the worst decade for music by far

  • Comment removed

  • While the Saxophone solo, the rest of the band is playin Come As you Are from Nirvana.

    Check it out! :)

  • ty kurwa grasz come as you are. na jądrach ojca.

  • Widze jaki poziom sobą reprezentujesz. Żałosny.

Lepiej zamknij kurwa paszcze jak masz pierdolić bez sensu -.-

    Psie.

  • Grunge was awesome, 80's rocked mad season kept me alive a whole year. And Laynes voice still enhances my life....

  • well said

  • also please bring back andrew wood, if we talk generally please take back grunge...

  • damn right. Get rid of the bullshit like fall out boy and those emo queers. This music actually has soul to it unlike the shit thats popular now

  • slucham Mad Season od tygodnia i nie moge przestac...nie da sie opisac piękna płyty Above...

    niesamowite...

  • I've seen Sherik ( the guy on sax ) live many times with many different bands such as Mike Clark's Prescription Renewal Trio , Garage A Trois , and Gov't Mule . It never occurred to me that he worked with Mad Season . ...Just goes to show quality musicians have no boundaries .

  • God please bring back Layne.

    Please bring back Kurt Cobain.

Bring back them back so I can thank them for saving my life countless times throughout my journey.

  • what a great fukin band....LONG LIVE LAYNE!!!RIP Layne Staley see you when i get there....p.s.helivesonthroughthemusic

    anyway..great song, rip layne

  • I just got this record for Christmas. I believe it is one of the most amazing together records ever made.

Long Live Layne and Mad Season

  • oiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

  • this song really shows whats deep inside.

  • Lol after Layne sings I fear again, like then, I've lost my way the saxaphonist plays the intro of Nirvana's Come As You Are.

  • um... have you listened to the studio version of this song?, its on there too.

    still cool that you noticed...

  • No, it is not.

  • You have a keen ear, thanks for pointing that out

  • Thank you. I think it was special reminiscence.

  • Long Gone Day! This was the tune of the late 90's. Miss those days dammit....Sittin back with your friends smokin a fat blunt rockin to Mad Season, and wondering what life would be like in 10 years. And now here i am. RIP LAYNE!

  • tritesa y pena al ver la muete missma

  • layne could take anything and make it so beautiful...hmmm...until we meet layne...we all miss you!

  • SO true. RIP Layne, I love ya, man.

  • GOOOOd how i wish i would be there..ohh yeah :(

  • hey, me too. i was just about to send this song to ya, but I see you had it already... lol cheers

  • hey,, you kind'a sort'a make me feel bad, since i live in the us, and never seen them. by the time i got interested, layne passed away... in in just so horrid circumstances.

  • wtf, I was too young to enjoy the 90's.

  • I feel ya man. Me too :(

  • all you get is shit like the jonas fags and fagout boy

yout probly dont even know the hardcore grunge like mudhoney or the melvins squirl nut zippers

  • I feel for you young guys because todays music does suck. Fucking Jonas assholes and miley cunt suck big cock. The can't hold a candle to Layne. Dude dont forget Tad along with buzz and the boys. RIP Layne.

  • Many of today's sounds are great. Mark Lanegan, for example :]

  • NOT MEEEE :-D

  • lejos la mejor bande despues de alice in chains obio

layne staley lejos el mejor bokal

  • Seriously, could you ever get sick of hearing Layne sing? The best ever....Peroid....

  • I know I can't! When I first got the AIC box set I would play it at work ALL the time and drive everyone nuts! haha They' say: "how do listen to this? It's so depressing!" haha I guess they didn't get it?! Then again some of them liked the "Kottonmouth Kings" so I totally understand why they didn't get it! haha Btw' I hate KMK!!!

  • I could never enjoy kmk, so i completely understand when u say that. It's about substance, the meaningful kind. lol

  • ch ah!

    ch ah!

  • Yeah, he didn't look so well, his insistence on performing and giving it his everything regardless of his personal upheavals far surpassed any other performer out their then and now. I will admit AIC was a great band --and I

have nothing against the band now, however ,Layne was the voice and creative talent in (most) of the music that was recorded Jerry was by far a genius in his own right but my opinion AIC died when Layne did. God Bless that soulful wounded heart of his. Peace to you Layne.

  • It would've been good that AIC died when Layne did but unfortunately they're a zombie now. It's like when the misfits reunited with a "replacement" for Danzig

  • somebody reincarnate that guy...

  • two amazing voice joined togheter

    long gone days indeed...

  • superbandgrunge

  • Layne for fucking ever \m/

Truly one of the most unique and amazing voices in music. God, why is he gone :'(

  • pure and simple.

Layne's voice is absolutely amazing...I think i could actually get off to his voice.

  • who hasn't.

  • Layne was a creepy lookin' son of a bitch.

  • Find a picture of him in 1990. Looked much better before the drugs tore apart his body.

  • So few people have a better voice than Layne

    Staley. Fucking amazing.

  • Word.

    No equal.

  • does anyone know where to find the live version of im above and wake up? they played it at this show and ive heard people say they have it but i cant find it anywhere.

  • You can fid the full live concert on Bootlegs only. Songs like Wake up, I'm Above, and I don't want to be a soldier (John Lennon). But only on Bootlegs.

  • My brother has the VHS, but i don't think that wake up is on there. I wanted to hear artificial red too, but its not on there.

  • sweet

  • why can't bands today play music and have a good time like this? Its like the are trying to prove something by sucking so much.

  • I totally agree with You.

  • This is my favorite music by Layne...

  • With every new video of grunge bands, which I watch, I have to say - this is the most amazing thing I've seen in my entire life!

That was the time; that was the music...

  • You are absolutely right man Im 33 hahah

  • tema pulento pulentoso

  • ts amazing how they can put a jazz song in an alternative rock album....100% professional

  • wash away with the rain

  • ...che figata di video e di canzone!

  • Fuckin awesome :)

  • Layne is my savior.

  • He saved me too.

  • layne staley always love you...

    his voice it's so beatifull

  • sound kinda like the doors' "The End". pretty cool.

  • this song makes me wanna fade to air and become a breeze of nice warm air ...

  • Brings me back to a better place!

  • love it! Layne wymiata ;)

  • remember that summer

    i miss you shannon bokousky

  • This is talent my friends. Beautiful, full, music.

  • Mark and layne work so well on this song and its a an amazing sound adding the sax and playing drums with his palms it works brilliantly

  • I get annoyed when people say dumb Godsmack sounds like Layne Staley. Absolute bullshit. Godsmack couldn't sound like Layne on their best day. It's just TOO DAMN BAD that we had to lose Layne and Kurt Cobain....greatest singers on the era. All we have left is Scott Weiland and brutal Pearl Jam, but am not a fan of Eddie "surfboard man" Veder.

  • ok dumb ass eddy vedder is fucking unbealivble and is the best band to come out of the 90s cause if you havent noticed they never broke up and even if kurt was still a live he said it him self he does not get joy from a concert

  • Come on dude, Eddy Veddder doesn't like doing shows and I personally don't like his music. He has some good songs, but cannot be compared to Alice IN Chains or Nirvana, they created grundge. It's just my opinion, not arguing, you're more than entitled to your opinion, after all, this is AMERICA, thank GOD. I think we can both agree on that. LOL

  • subpop and mudhoney created grunge or the term 'grunge'

  • i'm agree with if you that are sayin' that AMERICA (the continent), not United States.

  • altho i disagree ur opinion is respected

  • that's history.

    i'm about to cry

  • time moves fast,now the world is horrible...the music,the culture,its disappointing

  • it's so nice to see Layne smile when he introduces Mark... We miss u so damn much Layne... RIP...

  • the sound of the spleen..thank you, layne, thank you mark..

  • 4:54 like Come as You are :)

  • just beautiful i love this surreal "come as you are" part

  • i miss layne sooo much

  • awesome

  • Did I read somewhere that Mark Lanegan performed all MS vocals later on because of Layne's health/drug problems?

  • Yeah. After Above was put out, the plan was to kick Layne out, and make Mark full-time vocalist. That would have been a HUGE loss on their part.

  • I don't think that's true, what's your source? It makes no sense, Layne WAS mad season, not the other way around.

  • y its true... heard it like 6-7 years ago :)

  • I agree 100% with you on that, Layne is what made that band along with McCready. But you have to put into consideration the whole bands point of view....Layne couldnt always be there on stage and in the recording process because of his addictions/depression. Remember Layne lost his GF around this time too.

  • "Reportedly, songs were penned for another Mad Season album, which ultimately went unrecorded. Mad Season then supposedly thought about replacing Staley with Lanegan (and changing their name to Disinformation), but no songs were recorded -- resulting in the musicians going their separate ways for good."

That's from the official allmusic bio on the band. It really was too bad that Layne couldn't have done some more work with them.

    ...heck...with anyone :(

  • Layne wasnt healthy enough to record with them, my guess would be that he didnt want to either.

  • Mark Lanegan is bueno

  • Best Rock voices duet of the 90's ?
