Rubbish report, no fuel,miles, weight data, COG discussion, etc. However this said I own a 07 R12 rt and none of the other boilers in this category or test even come close to it, take away the issues of mirror position and the beamer is the definitive tourer, 39-40 mpg achievable, 140+ mph (Autobahn) for fast continental touring,(mile eating) arrive at the alps, drop the panniers and box, switch to sport mode and destroy lightweight tourers on Klausenpass.. EPIC... there is only one choice here
only for information my uncle bought a new BMW RT1200 full optional and after 6 months the rear wheel almost detached fom the transmission and he was driving on the highway in italy about 150 km/h...the dealer said it happens pretty often on this model, so I mean that's not a good sign of reliability.. I still see oldguzzies from the seventies still running...
I've heard you can now get the RT with a 29.5 inch seat. If so, this will really help sales I think. Now if you could just ride without bending your knee in half.
I agree - abrubt ending, time wasted on "weather report" and other non-sense comments, if time is limited, give facts. And to comment on another reviewer who asked "Why compare the BMW to a Moto Guzzi or Honda?" So wise-crack, what other makers are there of bikes in this class.....??
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I would have a bmw myself if i want a bike that had electrical problems and rusted away as you rode it. The pan may not be the best but will still be around in 10 year's + were do they get these mcn clowns from
@panman111 BMW is known to make some of the most reliable bikes on the planet. What are you talking about?? You have clearly displayed your lack of knowledge for everyone to see.
@number1Schumacherfan bearing problems electrial problems final drive problems oil seal problems do i need to go on o and the grap build quality still when your name is schumacher you learn not to be good with the truth see you soon at a bmw dealer getting your bike fixed as i ride past on my honda ........ha.ha.ha.ha.ha.....
Yes and it is also typically italian to win the SBK world championship and Moto GP. Nowadays italian bikes are most beautiful and nice to ride. The BMW is a good bike but has no taste. Try and ride a Guzzi or a Ducati before writing down the usual racist stereotypes. Moreover, when You go to the shop, You soon realize that Guzzi is much cheaper than BMW (in fact almost everything they have on the test R1200 is "optional").
@mattneur For a touring bike, you want reliability. The Guzzi screen broke during the test. Having owned a Guzzi I would not want another. After many years they are still producing great character bikes, but with terrible electrics - why won;t they learn!
But have You ever had a BMW? I am just planning to change my bike, I own a Ducati Monster right now and I would like to try something more comfortable, I'm getting old, unfortunately, although I know it will be hard to leave my Monster... anyway I talked to several BMW owners and they all "complained" (in truth they were almost embarassed telling it) several malfunctions (minor electrical accidents, ABS not functioning and so on... Therefore I would really like not to waste my money
@mattneur Owned a 650GS for a while. Never had any issues. Can't comment on any BMW model after 2006, but they have to be better than a Guzzi for reliability and comfort.
@alexzaharcu The Guzzi is a tourer, those big lumpy carrier things on the rear, (panniers) and fairing give it away, the Honda and the BM are also tourers, they are all the same type of bike, that's why and how they can compare one to the other.
they hardly get any snow, BUT there cold is different then say in canada. since they have higher humidity the cold cuts through clothing layers easier
Its because we brits are a nation of pansies, if it is below about 14 degrees C then it is cold, and we bitch, if it is above about 23-25 its a Heatwave and we bitch :D
Canada cold would be unimaginable for the average brit.
Where is GTR1400??

Agreed.
About 30 seconds of shaky footage of bikes being ridden.
I think I could do a better report with an my phone and iMovie.

@mattneur
Thats not a racist comment.
You can have relatively poor production QC and still make great race track bikes.
Why have Ducati employed an ex-Audi German engineer charging him with matching Japanese quality levels - where he admits they are not quite there.
BMWs problem is they over engineer.

how can you guys compare a Moto Guzzi to a BMW, or even a Honda for that matter? the end result of the test is no surprise.

@alexzaharcu because people not in know may be looking at both

R1200RT = 5 series, K1300 GT = 7 series. so 13Gt >> 12RT. but of ocurse both are great.
