@InfernoMitchi93 You need to manually change the velocities. I noticed that with their more recent EZX's, they have a weird velocity pattern that if you trigger the sample with anything other than full force, it'll sound really quiet and weak. Unfortunately, most GP files are programmed with varying velocities so it doesn't copy+paste too well.
Holy shit is 1:48 groovy as hell! to actually hear just how Thomas plays this is just awesome. Some people can't play the hairtas (double bass) with their flippin hands! Haake is a cosmic metronome.
@JustMeGuitarman This recording is 115 bpm. Some people claim that Bleed is 110 or 120, they are probably referring to a different recordings. This was recorded for Toontrack years after Obzen was released, in Meshuggah's studio in Sweden.
@Sc0ttPrian i understand completely. DEI has always been my favorite album. and choasphere... but luckily this EZX software comes with 12 of their most popular songs. I choose to put up Bleed, because i never plan on covering it. I had Sane up on youtube, but took it down because i began covering it. And didnt want people using samples, that i mixed, on their recordings without my permission. i dont care about bleed enough to cover it, so im sharing it with the world.
@abyxjohnson dont judge a drum machine by it's low-quality youtube video. This EZX comes with several different snares, this happens to be Haake's personal snare. There's is also a mixer in the program to change the levels, and of coarse yuo cn tweak it inside your host.. i use Reaper.
@Xam271 I figured it out lol. I should've been clearer and asked about the pattern instead of the count lol. 99% of Meshuggah's songs are 4/4, but that pattern where I mentioned was intriguing, to say the least.
Such awesome people listen to this music. Thanks for the input and the help!
After adding the guitars, bass, and vocal tracks to a song, the easiest way to make it sound almost 100% better is by using the FL studio "Soundgoodizer" or my favorite witch is the FL Maximus. Getting everything to be heard clearly is key to a good production.
I also use EZ drummer and Superior Drummer. They haven't failed me yet.
@iAmPesukone Sorry, but the ghost notes are in this recording. Just can't be heard here. I were actually really confused when playing this with a higher velocity, that there were snare hits that I did not know about. (Haven't heard them on the recording)

@OneSpudd I'm sure the guy who actually made this will know a bit more about this than you . . and by the way, there's a difference between hits a minute and beats a minute.
@OneSpudd And what's your point? You were wrong, and didn't seem to take notice even though there was two people telling you. Therefore I took the liberty of reinforcing the situation with another dose of factual information. Thanks for the waste of life, though. :D
@sebbimon If you owned the program you would clearly see as I have that it's listed within EZdrummer as 115 BPM. So thats what i programmed it at. I understand you think you may have figured it out... but Im just telling you what the program says, and what I did... You cant convince me until the software confirms what you are saying. If you dont work for toontrack or not in Meshuggah, shut the fuck up!
@sebbimon Your "drum skills" aren't right. It makes sense to call it either 115 bpm or 230 bpm (you can check this with a metronome). It doesn't make a difference, except what it looks like on paper. The beat in the start leads me towards 115 because of the cymbal hits. If you call it 115 bpm, then the bass drum pattern is filled with 32nd notes. 230 bpm would be 16th notes.
@sebbimon Actually, if you look at how BPM is counted it's usually counted in quarter notes. This song is actually in a 4/4 time signature (4 quarter notes in every bar). It just seems fast because all of his notes played are either 16th notes or 32nd notes
@OneSpudd Actually it's 115 BPM and BPM is counted in quarter notes. The song is in 4/4 (4 quarter notes in every bar). It just sounds fast because he's playing in 16ths or 32nds mostly
@jimharris84 Me too, they're just extremely hard to mix with metal songs. You can put compression and more volume, etc etc, but some people just buy this to use it immediatly without the need to spend hours and hours of mixing and compressing etc. Addictive Drums kinda solved that problem, but they've actually put too much compression on everything. ( making your songs sound like shit ) Metalheads for superior and ezx is waaay better, and you don't need to edit the kickdrum FINALLY ;D
He's using ezdrummer. Superior 2.0 kits all have that "elegant" theme to it and you can't change that. With ezdrummer, the kits all have a different look to them. Such as the drum kit from hell pack. It has the flames, but on superior, its just that elegant look like on all other expansions.
Don't waste the money on ezdrummer just for the themes if you already have superior! Superior does everything ezdrummer can do. Plus WAY more.
I'm using this through superior drummer 2.0, and I was wondering how you get the green set? I still have the superior set up with an extra bass drum n cymbals
if its not too much trouble, could someone please tell me what some of the other 11 drum tracks are included with this product? the toontrack website doesnt have them listed anywhere..
NOT IMPRESSIVE??????!!! When we listen to music we listen to the beat, and its always some sort of patern, the brain is like that. This song however, has an irregular beat, so we as humans, our brain builds a pattern even before we hear what's coming next for the song, the brain also sends a message to the body parts to follow the pattern of the music, this drummer manipulates brain activity and alters it to his use. thats fucking impressive
@BertFlamingo Haha... i know, it's so groovey. This of coarse was a a real recording, turned into midi, then i mixed and bounced it down to .wav, made it into a video, and uploaded it so anyone can jam with this song, and see the potential for Metalheads. There are free and easy ways to download videos from youtube and rip the audio from it. But i suggest you buy EZdrummer's Metalheads and have drumtracks of 11 more songs by meshuggah!
@BertFlamingo vid2mp3.com or any other vid to mp3 sight is the fastest way to just take a sound from a vid and have it on ur itunes, that is if they exist
I have both DKH and MH kits. I think this kit sounds waay better, but they fucked up the humanize feature on it making it sound like shit. the velocity is all over the place and I went back to using DKFH.
@manorocks123 baring in mind this expansion can be used on both EZdrummer AND Superior Drummer. I use it with EZDrummer as the overall file size including EZdrummer is alot smaller than that of superior drummer. But at the end of the day man its all down to personal preferences and which programme you prefer to use.
@manosrock123 Whats wrong with you?! The fuck! This is EZ Drummer... Superior sucks... D: Go home and die boy if you still think its superior drummer...
I dont get how this is not better than DFH!? THis shit sounds way more realistic. I mean the bas drums and snare in DFH...holy fuck rip my ears off. You could speculate on the cymbals of MH but this is by far much more tighter sounding, better recorded and overall awsome. Doesn't beat an acoustic kit of course, but then agian it beats the hell out of finding a good enough drummer for your tracks.
@UMadUJelly Obviously. But this software is great for people like me, who work grave shifts and don't have access to an amazing drummer 24/7. It allows me to track guitars to a decent sounding drum kit.
@UMadUJelly Of course a real drummer is better than software, but in my honest opinion (as a drummer myself), i think softwares like these get a much worse rep than they deserve. Not everybody can afford going into an expensive studio and record their kit perfectly, so what's the next alternative? Software. If the drummer can play it live, then who cares if they used a software to arrange their drumlines? It's still the drummer's work. That's the way I look at it.
@VJelectro I see your point, but not all studio's are expensive, and as a drummer myself as well, I ran into this problem when trying to record my side band's first EP, (nothing special, just a local band). I can play all the numbers live, but I was struggling to get the right drum sound I wanted trying to record it at home. My bandmates suggested the software, but I wanted (for the few that bought the album) to know it was me playing, not a computer program, granted it was still all my work.
@Drummerz24 Yeah, In my perfect world, I'd want it to be me playing the instrument and recording my performance. That's my number one choice, but all in all, if you put the right amount of work and dedication into it, you can get the sound and performance you want in software. You just have to keep in mind your drumming abilities and certain nuances that you have when you actually play the instrument.
@VJelectro True. As long as the musician can preform it live, I guess it makes a viable option for recording purposes. This kind of technique could be handy for recording on a budget too, but I have to admit, I haven't really taken the time to learn or use drum software yet. So, I guess I can't knock it until I've really tried it.
@Drummerz24 Yeah, definitely. If you become proficient in drum programming (being a drummer as well) it's a great knowledge to have and you can wield it to great advantage. For example, with my band, i recorded my drum tracks on one condensor mic for demo purposes, then I took the time to completely recreate them in Addictive Drums. It sounds great now and it can sit better with the other instruments that were recorded. It all depends on the drummer but I suggest you give it a shot!
This is simply WAY better then Drumkit from Hell, because it sounds way better. I know, I know, put some EQ and compression and stuff on DFH, and it will sound as good, but I really don't want to put hours and hours of effort in equalizing the drums. Metalheads sounds good already, just like addictive drums, no difficulty with mixing, or cymbals fading in the noise, and the snare on metalheads is just so much better then dfh :D DFH 's snare is just WAY to thin. Just as the bass drum kicks ;P
I think it's the opposite.. you SHOULDNT have to eq DFH... metalheads is a sound-spectrum nightmare comparatively, and took me hours of EQ and compression work to make this sound this good. I never had to do that with DFH. With DFH i can make beats sound like Pink Floyd or Tool drumbeats from the moment i create them... Whereas Metalheadz is pretty much strictly a meshuggah sound. Meshugah is my favorite band so i love it, but as a producers i will always demand DFH.
@Xhell420 You're fucking shitting me right? Ez DFH has some of the most cringe inducing samples ever recorded by a human being, they are very inconsistent.
@alt9001 Man we must be using different programs... cuz Metalheads is really inconsistent, the levels of the cymbals are all different, and it was recorded so quiet i had to boost the gain ridiculous amounts, pannin issues with (track pan in relation to OH/room mic placement), the compressed trigger sounds are cringing. Lots of other issues as well. I have analyzed both programs sonically. As a soundman, my DFH mix is how a standard kit should sound.
first of all we all know you cant judge anyone's mix through a youtube video. Second of all, as a producer i prefer DFH, the kit "sound" fits into a lot of genres. Metalheads is great if you want that specific Mesh sound. To me, the production seemed a bit rushed compared to to DFH. It doesnt sound bad at all, but to me it's the slight nuances of their mic placement, the thin compression on the triggers, and unflat EQ signal (boosted around 60hz, Bb), but that's true to mesh's sound, not mine.
SDX are for people who call their computer their home studio. My computer has very little to do with my studio. I have all the hardware equipment and more than what SDX imitates. So SDX is NOT for real producers. Just give me the signal and i can compress, EQ, change samples... everything, all own my own, i dont need a computer program. I only use real drummers for layin trax. EZ drummer is the best if you want to write new parts! MH is great if you wanna cover Mesh. I love mesh.
Besides detailed Eq adjustment and effects. The key area Metalheads lacks over The Metal Foundry is the snare. Kick could use a little adjustment. But not bad. Good work.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
The double bass is almost exactly the same for the entire song. Not that impressive. Sounds cool, I will agree, but I'm only saying it is just another example of a simple beat that sounds super cool. :)
@bungiejumper765 How is this not that impressive? Regardless that this isn't the actual recording of the song, but for someone to keep that rhythm for 7 minutes...that's extremely hard to do. Even doing a simple rhythm but fast would be hard to do for that long, and this takes both skill and stamina to do.
@everythingwentjim he's not saying it's easy to replicate, it's the fact that it's just a polyrhytmic herta pattern (2 32nd notes followed by 2 16th notes) that makes it simple, aside from the fact it's occasionally played up with extra 16th notes, it's a simple 4/4 / 3/4 polyrhythm, + it doesn't take too much stamina once you have the technique down
Also, to the creator of this, you missed out all the ghosts on the snare.
@BreanMate "Also, to the creator of this, you missed out all the ghosts on the snare." Since this track was played by haake himself, you might want to let him know that he's playing his own song wrong.
@xpguardian Thats another area of metalheadz i dont like... bad compression... please note... the ghost notes are there... but this is just a standard youtube video, so it's kinda lost in there
@bungiejumper765 It's really simple indeed, but coupled with some polyrhythms and speed it becomes a beat that demands a hellish lot of stamina and counting.
@bungiejumper765 lol Your a fucking moron if you don't think this song on drums is impressive. I'm sorry dude, but this is way past impressive, this is fucking inhuman...You must not know anything about drums...that's cool you'll learn.
@bungiejumper765 firstly, its NOT the same thing...listen to it..secondly,its NOT simple...try playing it at 50% speed for atleast 5 seconds...sheesh....haake himself practiced this thing for 6 months
@bungiejumper765 Okay, yes because something with the timing signature 9/4 and the faster parts 7/4 or 5/7 you do that then you can say that its not impressive.
@rockrule80 No... but Polyrhythm is when 2 (or more) beats is played simultaneously and most of Meshuggah's (or Periphery's, Vildhjarta's, Tool's etc.) songs has a 4/4 ground beat that revolves around 4-16 bars... so... this song is still 4/4 ;)
@emilolsson91 They use a technique called polymeters. Polyrhythm are two different beats which end up in the same time signature or one measure usually ends up the same, just with different speeds. Polymeters is using two or more totally different time signatures at the same time, creating the chaotic effect. Millenium Cyanide Christ for example, has a 4/4 beat for snare and hi-hat but the kick changes with every (short) measure.
Agreed, way better than dfh. I recently did the crossgrade to SDX with the Metal Foundry. Similar sound just with better samples and more eq. But just for quick mock up drum tracks with good quality, Metalheads is the perfect choice. Sick vid.
bleed it what your legs will do playing this xDDD

He's using ezdrummer. Superior 2.0 kits all have that "elegant" theme to it and you can't change that. With ezdrummer, the kits all have a different look to them. Such as the drum kit from hell pack. It has the flames, but on superior, its just that elegant look like on all other expansions.
Don't waste the money on ezdrummer just for the themes if you already have superior! Superior does everything ezdrummer can do. Plus WAY more.

I'm using this through superior drummer 2.0, and I was wondering how you get the green set? I still have the superior set up with an extra bass drum n cymbals

Is there anyway to get an mp3 or whatever with just drumtracks from mesh songs.. I could could listen to it all day
BertFlamingo 5 months ago
@BertFlamingo Haha... i know, it's so groovey. This of coarse was a a real recording, turned into midi, then i mixed and bounced it down to .wav, made it into a video, and uploaded it so anyone can jam with this song, and see the potential for Metalheads. There are free and easy ways to download videos from youtube and rip the audio from it. But i suggest you buy EZdrummer's Metalheads and have drumtracks of 11 more songs by meshuggah!

@Xhell420 did u have an original multi track drum track to convert to midi ? if not what did u use? thanks

I have both DKH and MH kits. I think this kit sounds waay better, but they fucked up the humanize feature on it making it sound like shit. the velocity is all over the place and I went back to using DKFH.
mellodge 7 months ago
Is this better or the same as the drum kit from hell expansion? I have to pick one of the two haha
Reaper1544 7 months ago
@manorocks123 baring in mind this expansion can be used on both EZdrummer AND Superior Drummer. I use it with EZDrummer as the overall file size including EZdrummer is alot smaller than that of superior drummer. But at the end of the day man its all down to personal preferences and which programme you prefer to use.

xMadWarlock 7 months ago
I dont get how this is not better than DFH!? THis shit sounds way more realistic. I mean the bas drums and snare in DFH...holy fuck rip my ears off. You could speculate on the cymbals of MH but this is by far much more tighter sounding, better recorded and overall awsome. Doesn't beat an acoustic kit of course, but then agian it beats the hell out of finding a good enough drummer for your tracks.

Real drummer > software.
UMadUJelly 9 months ago
@UMadUJelly Obviously. But this software is great for people like me, who work grave shifts and don't have access to an amazing drummer 24/7. It allows me to track guitars to a decent sounding drum kit.
batmessiah 9 months ago
@UMadUJelly Of course a real drummer is better than software, but in my honest opinion (as a drummer myself), i think softwares like these get a much worse rep than they deserve. Not everybody can afford going into an expensive studio and record their kit perfectly, so what's the next alternative? Software. If the drummer can play it live, then who cares if they used a software to arrange their drumlines? It's still the drummer's work. That's the way I look at it.
VJelectro 6 months ago 2
@VJelectro I see your point, but not all studio's are expensive, and as a drummer myself as well, I ran into this problem when trying to record my side band's first EP, (nothing special, just a local band). I can play all the numbers live, but I was struggling to get the right drum sound I wanted trying to record it at home. My bandmates suggested the software, but I wanted (for the few that bought the album) to know it was me playing, not a computer program, granted it was still all my work.
Drummerz24 6 months ago
@Drummerz24 Yeah, In my perfect world, I'd want it to be me playing the instrument and recording my performance. That's my number one choice, but all in all, if you put the right amount of work and dedication into it, you can get the sound and performance you want in software. You just have to keep in mind your drumming abilities and certain nuances that you have when you actually play the instrument.
VJelectro 6 months ago
@VJelectro True. As long as the musician can preform it live, I guess it makes a viable option for recording purposes. This kind of technique could be handy for recording on a budget too, but I have to admit, I haven't really taken the time to learn or use drum software yet. So, I guess I can't knock it until I've really tried it.
Drummerz24 6 months ago
@Drummerz24 Yeah, definitely. If you become proficient in drum programming (being a drummer as well) it's a great knowledge to have and you can wield it to great advantage. For example, with my band, i recorded my drum tracks on one condensor mic for demo purposes, then I took the time to completely recreate them in Addictive Drums. It sounds great now and it can sit better with the other instruments that were recorded. It all depends on the drummer but I suggest you give it a shot!
VJelectro 6 months ago
This is simply WAY better then Drumkit from Hell, because it sounds way better. I know, I know, put some EQ and compression and stuff on DFH, and it will sound as good, but I really don't want to put hours and hours of effort in equalizing the drums. Metalheads sounds good already, just like addictive drums, no difficulty with mixing, or cymbals fading in the noise, and the snare on metalheads is just so much better then dfh :D DFH 's snare is just WAY to thin. Just as the bass drum kicks ;P
NitroCoasters 10 months ago
I think it's the opposite.. you SHOULDNT have to eq DFH... metalheads is a sound-spectrum nightmare comparatively, and took me hours of EQ and compression work to make this sound this good. I never had to do that with DFH. With DFH i can make beats sound like Pink Floyd or Tool drumbeats from the moment i create them... Whereas Metalheadz is pretty much strictly a meshuggah sound. Meshugah is my favorite band so i love it, but as a producers i will always demand DFH.
Xhell420 10 months ago
@Xhell420 The original DFH by East-West was fucking annoying to EQ though, but once you got it right it sounded great.
JonathanChunPrevenge 9 months ago
@Xhell420 You're fucking shitting me right? Ez DFH has some of the most cringe inducing samples ever recorded by a human being, they are very inconsistent.
alt9001 9 months ago
@alt9001 Man we must be using different programs... cuz Metalheads is really inconsistent, the levels of the cymbals are all different, and it was recorded so quiet i had to boost the gain ridiculous amounts, pannin issues with (track pan in relation to OH/room mic placement), the compressed trigger sounds are cringing. Lots of other issues as well. I have analyzed both programs sonically. As a soundman, my DFH mix is how a standard kit should sound.
Xhell420 9 months ago
@Xhell420 Recorded quiet? Learn to mix at proper levels, you're not supposed to be hitting 0dbfs with an unmastered track.
alt9001 9 months ago
first of all we all know you cant judge anyone's mix through a youtube video.
Xhell420 9 months ago
@Xhell420 as a producer you should use superior drummer 2.0 not an EZX
mattholland990 9 months ago
SDX are for people who call their computer their home studio. My computer has very little to do with my studio. I have all the hardware equipment and more than what SDX imitates. So SDX is NOT for real producers. Just give me the signal and i can compress, EQ, change samples... everything, all own my own, i dont need a computer program. I only use real drummers for layin trax. EZ drummer is the best if you want to write new parts! MH is great if you wanna cover Mesh. I love mesh.
Xhell420 9 months ago
@Xhell420 congrats on sounding very pretentious
cynicown 8 months ago
Besides detailed Eq adjustment and effects. The key area Metalheads lacks over The Metal Foundry is the snare. Kick could use a little adjustment. But not bad. Good work.

The double bass is almost exactly the same for the entire song. Not that impressive. Sounds cool, I will agree, but I'm only saying it is just another example of a simple beat that sounds super cool. :)

jmhadahorse 3 months ago
@bungiejumper765 How is this not that impressive? Regardless that this isn't the actual recording of the song, but for someone to keep that rhythm for 7 minutes...that's extremely hard to do. Even doing a simple rhythm but fast would be hard to do for that long, and this takes both skill and stamina to do.
sirbeefofmatt 7 months ago
@bungiejumper765 not that impressive? i wanna see you do that for 7 minutes straight almost and see how your legs feel

@bungiejumper765 This has got to be the most complex kick pattern in the world.
a) because it is a head fuck
and
b) because it requires the stamina of a mammoth to play
"exactly the same" lolololololololololololol
everythingwentjim 6 months ago
@everythingwentjim he's not saying it's easy to replicate, it's the fact that it's just a polyrhytmic herta pattern (2 32nd notes followed by 2 16th notes) that makes it simple, aside from the fact it's occasionally played up with extra 16th notes, it's a simple 4/4 / 3/4 polyrhythm, + it doesn't take too much stamina once you have the technique down
Also, to the creator of this, you missed out all the ghosts on the snare.
BreanMate 6 months ago
@BreanMate "Also, to the creator of this, you missed out all the ghosts on the snare." Since this track was played by haake himself, you might want to let him know that he's playing his own song wrong.
xpguardian 6 months ago
@xpguardian Oh, didn't read the description. In any case though, Haake played it here differently to how it's played on the album version.
BreanMate 6 months ago
@xpguardian Thats another area of metalheadz i dont like... bad compression... please note... the ghost notes are there... but this is just a standard youtube video, so it's kinda lost in there
Xhell420 6 months ago
@bungiejumper765 If you were a drummer or a musician in general, you'd notice it's not the same throughout the song.
SorryArchitect 6 months ago
@bungiejumper765 Try doing herta's for 7 minutes straight and then not be impressed.
MrAndairus 6 months ago
@bungiejumper765 It's really simple indeed, but coupled with some polyrhythms and speed it becomes a beat that demands a hellish lot of stamina and counting.
iAmPesukone 6 months ago
@bungiejumper765 Hum have you tried to play it? You might be surprised.
daclo64 6 months ago
@bungiejumper765 it's relatively simple but the key is endurance. fucking killer to play that same pattern for a whole 7 and a half minutes.

@bungiejumper765 Okay, yes because something with the timing signature 9/4 and the faster parts 7/4 or 5/7 you do that then you can say that its not impressive.
rockrule80 4 months ago
@rockrule80 LOL! 5/7 doesn't exist...
continuum288 4 months ago
@rockrule80 this is 4/4
wingeddemon1026 3 months ago
@rockrule80 like 90% of Meshuggah's songs are in 4/4. including this one. its just a strange beat with a bunch of polyrythms.
lackthereof1783 3 months ago
@lackthereof1783 But polyrythms aren't 4/4:)
rockrule80 3 months ago
@rockrule80 No... but Polyrhythm is when 2 (or more) beats is played simultaneously and most of Meshuggah's (or Periphery's, Vildhjarta's, Tool's etc.) songs has a 4/4 ground beat that revolves around 4-16 bars... so... this song is still 4/4 ;)
emilolsson91 3 months ago 2
@emilolsson91 They use a technique called polymeters. Polyrhythm are two different beats which end up in the same time signature or one measure usually ends up the same, just with different speeds. Polymeters is using two or more totally different time signatures at the same time, creating the chaotic effect. Millenium Cyanide Christ for example, has a 4/4 beat for snare and hi-hat but the kick changes with every (short) measure.
drumgroovy 3 months ago
Agreed, way better than dfh. I recently did the crossgrade to SDX with the Metal Foundry. Similar sound just with better samples and more eq. But just for quick mock up drum tracks with good quality, Metalheads is the perfect choice. Sick vid.
