Good imitation, to be far, but definitely not him if you've followed U2 for 30+ years. 4. The singer's accent is fake. Many differences between him and Bono. Definitely not U2.

Yes, this is Bono singing. But you can clearly notice that this sound was downtuned... He never had his voice that low in the past. I can even notice it in the guitar, the sound was downtuned or pitch shifted down a little.

It is Bono for sure! The reason his voice sounds a little deeper than usual is because this is from an old tape and is runs a little slower than it should. I have read about this concert in the great "U2 live" book.

The timbre of the voice sounds really off, both in the speaking and the singing. I don't think it's Bono; his voice usually comes higher in the throat.

The song is also in the wrong key. It's not out of the realm of imagination for U2 to lower the key if Bono's voice was not in good shape, but I've never seen U2 do it with this particular song, which isn't very high compared to other songs.

I'm not sure this is Bono, it doesnt really sound like him. Maybe its a U2 tribute band and the singer is trying to 'do Bono' between the songs too. The only time Bono has sounded a bit similar to this was in the very early days of U2. It is worth remembering that people then didnt have mobile phones, so if this is recent (and it must be if somone is on a mobile phone) then it cant be U2 because 'Bono' sounds similar to the Bono from the early 1980s or someone mimmicking him as that.

I witnessed a similar occurrence in 2006. I was working at a hotel in NYC and we had a special party thrown during Fashion Week for the Red Campaign, and Bono spoke and did a couple of numbers accompanying himself on acoustic guitar. It was recorded and re-recorded and passed around amongst collectors(major network of fans doing this during the 80's) on tape, so recording speed and resulant pitch is not always consistent, - sometimes faster(higher pitch), sometimes slower(lower pitch).

The Psychedelic Furs were originally meant to perform at the concert but did not play for unknown reasons. Most of the crowd had shown up to see the Furs and became hostile when they learnt they will only see U2. U2 tried their hardest to break down the tension but did not succeed, with brawls breaking out in the crowd. This is particularly apparent during I Will Follow, which is plagued by false starts as Bono rebukes those causing trouble and urges calm.

got the entire concert on CD. It's genuine. They started this song 3 times, other songs but interrupted as well. It's well known. I think a few days before this gig the band got locked in their dressing room in Munich by accident, almost missing their own gig. As consequence it took the band anoher 2 years before they'd return to Germany when they returned for the 1983 Loreley show.

Another gig of the same tour in Berlin went ok and was broadcast. Search for "U2 Berlin Metropol 1981 Rockpalast"

This is from a gig in Hamburg, Germany on November 3rd 1981. It's pretty well-known amongst hardcore U2 fans. The Psychedelic Furs were supposed to play this show also but cancelled (dunno why) and this led to a bad atmosphere in the venue that night which is pretty evident. Then, some guy, who probably was drunk, was ready to start fighting with somebody. Bono is displeased by this, so he singles this guy out. Later on during I Will Follow, he does something, which isn't exactly clear, to piss Bono off again, so he stopped the band. Bono wasn't drunk either, he just hates violence. Good questions : )
