This is obviously Bono. So what the pitch sounds off, its obviously an old recording. Besides, only Bono can "imitate" Bono's anger, and this anger sounds quite genuine. Great recording. Kudos to Bono for yelling at the asshole, he probably deserved it.
1. No one from Dublin would say, "... beat you up". They don't use that phrase in Dublin. 1. This obviously isn't from the 80's as the sound quality is too good. Listen to other videos/recordings from the 80's and they ALL sound like shit. 3. Listen to The (alleged) Edge's guitar riffs... OBVIOUSLY not him. Good imitation, to be far, but definitely not him if you've followed U2 for 30+ years. 4. The singer's accent is fake. Many differences between him and Bono. Definitely not U2.
I thought Bono was from Southern Ireland? If this is correct WTF does he know about violence, minimal, if any violence occurred in the republic of Ireland in his lifetime
Yes, this is Bono singing. But you can clearly notice that this sound was downtuned... He never had his voice that low in the past. I can even notice it in the guitar, the sound was downtuned or pitch shifted down a little.
@AntiRellik its lower cos its from a cassette recorder. downtuned, are you having a fucking laugh, anyone that knows anything about u2 knows this. what about the tapes when his voice is squeeky,,is that uptuned,,,you fuckin thick fuck
It is Bono for sure! The reason his voice sounds a little deeper than usual is because this is from an old tape and is runs a little slower than it should. I have read about this concert in the great "U2 live" book.
Jeez, people this is Bono. This is how he sounded in the early 80's if you were a fan than you would know. He even sang deeper prior to 1984. Go look up Like a Song Live on utube and you will see what I'm talking about. And please don't anyone wager your limbs for godssake--you'll lose something you need.
listen it is bono it is u2 it was released on Children of the Revolution cd.
i own the bloody album i am a massive fan of u2 and would not post a fake band trying to be them. remember it was 1981, 2years before under a blood red sky concert. despite that ive almost listened to every recording of them from the 80s and every video. i know its them and i have proof. the cd and google.
Dude! It's a great tribute band or something! I have been listening to U2 for 30 years, this is NOT Bono! I would wager my left arm on it! But believe what you like! ~ peace
@alserenity27 EVEN IF ITZ NOT BONO, BONO IS IRISH, HE'S TOUGH AS SHIT, LIKE IRISH ARE, AND HE'S DONE THIS NUMEROUS TIMES IM SURE, I HAD A BOOTLEG FAN SHOT IN CANADA UNFORGETTABLE FIRE ERA CONCERT, AND AFTER BONO THREW A WHITE FLAG INTO THE CROWD, THEY WERE LIKE PIRANHAS GOING AFTER IT, HE CUSSED AT THEM AND SAID THEY COULD LEAVE THE BUILDING IF THEY DIDN'T CUT THAT SHIT OUT, OR SOMETHING TO THIS EFFECT, BONO WILL REPRIMAND AT THE DROP OF A HAT, AND HAS he was spit alchohol in his f
@iEatwoMensbuTThoLes bono was spit alchohol directly into his face leaning over the heart stage on elevation tour in miami, his response immediately was to spit saliva right straight back in the guy's face......later on, he apologized for doing that, another time in the 80s he was backstage after a show talking with his wife or soon to be wife, ali, some idiot security thought she was a groupie and grabbed her to fling her out and bono kicked the shit outta the guy........
The timbre of the voice sounds really off, both in the speaking and the singing. I don't think it's Bono; his voice usually comes higher in the throat.
The song is also in the wrong key. It's not out of the realm of imagination for U2 to lower the key if Bono's voice was not in good shape, but I've never seen U2 do it with this particular song, which isn't very high compared to other songs.
Fake up until 57 secs then between 58 secs1.09 secs proper U2 recording just to fox you, then after 1.09 secs all bunk and fake....By the way good U2 tribute
I'm not sure this is Bono, it doesnt really sound like him. Maybe its a U2 tribute band and the singer is trying to 'do Bono' between the songs too. The only time Bono has sounded a bit similar to this was in the very early days of U2. It is worth remembering that people then didnt have mobile phones, so if this is recent (and it must be if somone is on a mobile phone) then it cant be U2 because 'Bono' sounds similar to the Bono from the early 1980s or someone mimmicking him as that.
@EnglishChannel1 I have a few old bootlegs and there is one where the speed was recorded slower or something. If you speed it up a little it sounds like him.
@EnglishChannel1 Actually who ever is trying to impersonate him talking hasn't really got a handle on Bono's nuances in his speech. It just sounds like someone trying to do a generic poor attempt at an Irish accent. Then at the end of the song, you can tell it's the real Bono talking as his voice is totally different from the bullshit we heard before.
@EnglishChannel1 its not recent, it was recorded by camera and this is the audio recorded November 3, 1981 - Hamburg, Germany. there is proof all over the net, official sites. remember that they did not have very good recording devices back then. i am telling you all ... this is u2........! it is very rare and i feel very lucky to own it.
I witnessed a similar occurrence in 2006. I was working at a hotel in NYC and we had a special party thrown during Fashion Week for the Red Campaign, and Bono spoke and did a couple of numbers accompanying himself on acoustic guitar. Some dumb bitch was on the phone, and he stopped and cursed her out. Being a singer myself, I relished in the moment. His cover of Blower's Daughter that night was amazing btw.
@NYfootball56 the recording is a 'half note / half-step' lower in pitch. It really is Bono and U2. It was recorded and re-recorded and passed around amongst collectors(major network of fans doing this during the 80's) on tape, so recording speed and resulant pitch is not always consistent, - sometimes faster(higher pitch), sometimes slower(lower pitch).
Gloria, Another Time Another Place, I Threw A Brick Through A Window, An Cat Dubh, Into The Heart, Rejoice, The Cry, The Electric Co., I Fall Down, October, Stories For Boys, I Will Follow, Twilight, Out Of Control.
The Psychedelic Furs were originally meant to perform at the concert but did not play for unknown reasons. Most of the crowd had shown up to see the Furs and became hostile when they learnt they will only see U2. U2 tried their hardest to break down the tension but did not succeed, with brawls breaking out in the crowd. This is particularly apparent during I Will Follow, which is plagued by false starts as Bono rebukes those causing trouble and urges calm.
got the entire concert on CD. It's genuine. They started this song 3 times, other songs but interrupted as well. It's well known. I think a few days before this gig the band got locked in their dressing room in Munich by accident, almost missing their own gig. As consequence it took the band anoher 2 years before they'd return to Germany when they returned for the 1983 Loreley show.
Another gig of the same tour in Berlin went ok and was broadcast. Search for "U2 Berlin Metropol 1981 Rockpalast"
@Inspector711 Yeah. I believe that's what we call "have an attitude" and a personality not be ashamed of. One must be a really big spoiled crybaby to have the guts to sing about his lost mother in front thousands of people and recognize the jerk he was before like he does.
This is from a gig in Hamburg, Germany on November 3rd 1981. It's pretty well-known amongst hardcore U2 fans. The Psychedelic Furs were supposed to play this show also but cancelled (dunno why) and this led to a bad atmosphere in the venue that night which is pretty evident. Do I win a prize for my 'nerdy, trainspotter' comment??!!
@lcwe yeh ur prize is a hairy woman that wants to suck ur cock and eat ur cum -all the time - excellent comment -informative too-german fans are fuckin weird-germans themselves-german porno-they eat feces, do all kinds of shit, see the popular U2 live at metropol in berlin in 1981, worst U2 crowd ever, bono even sang on 'i fall down' 'i wanna go home, i don't like this show' germans jump on stage, are hostile, even at loreley concert they were zombies, back 80s german U2 fans-weird....
@xooropa Bono messing up the lyrics at live shows is not all that uncommon... songs like Party Girl, Elevation, and I Will Follow are songs he's been known to forget. But hey, in every band out there, along with the sound and personality they produce, it's the mistakes that they make, that make them who they are.
@xooropa What happened was that Bono just didn''t like the whole place all together. That's why at the beginning, he asks "Is this a circus or something?". Then, some guy, who probably was drunk, was ready to start fighting with somebody. Bono is displeased by this, so he singles this guy out. Later on during I Will Follow, he does something, which isn't exactly clear, to piss Bono off again, so he stopped the band. Bono wasn't drunk either, he just hates violence. Good questions : )
@MRBLAKFOX45 very true. :D and bono has never been drunk while he has performed, i would be pissed off to if i was trying to sing and everyone was being dickheads.
This is obviously Bono. So what the pitch sounds off, its obviously an old recording. Besides, only Bono can "imitate" Bono's anger, and this anger sounds quite genuine. Great recording. Kudos to Bono for yelling at the asshole, he probably deserved it.
