I remember a couple years ago my brother bought a record player, that came with a free record. Long story short we didn't how it worked. So don't be surprised if twenty years from now teenagers won't know how to play a cassette player.
Is there a campaign to free Phil Spector? No disrespect to Lana Clarkson, but having a fit- for which he was prescribed medication- with tragic consequences isn't murder.
Whilst there is some evidence to suggest Phil pulled the trigger , that he was in a lucid state of mind at the time is doubtful.
I'm a musician with schizophrenia, and the problem with medication is it dulls creativity considerably.
This is the only cover that sounds as close to the version i LOVE and Always hear at Walgreens. i wish i can get their version, this is ok, but i want Walgreen's.
@DETROITBULLET Actually, they had distorted guitars as early as 1956. Check out "The Train Kept A Rolling" by Johnny Burnette, which if I remember right was a pretty big hit. Another early song with distortion was "The Slummer" by the Five Royales from 1958.
@rockitMiC That's true, with Johnny Burnette it was accidental, but with the Five Royales it was intentional, although I guess it could be debated whether or not The Slummer was actually a hit.
Darlene Love made Phil the fortune he started enjoying in 1962. She carried him all through 1963 ... and beyond. She was the voice of Philles Records, fronting on Philles 106, 107, 109, 110, 111, 113, 114, 117, 119 and 123, and 125... practically all big hits. And she did backing vocals on practically all the Philles singles, as well as helping with vocal arrangements. Darlene Love rules !
In my book, Darlene Love was the Phil Spector sound. Her voice is unique. She still performs and sounds as good as ever. She cut some classic hits with him, especially "Today I Met The Boy I'm Gonna Marry", which at least was released under her own name.. Zip A Dee Doo Daht just blew me away. That heavy, slow intro was amazing at the time, and Spector turned a happy song into a great bluesy number.. The man was a genius, and gave us some of the best music of the sixties which will live forever
I like this version a lot! Better than the standard version of it. This is what, a sort of gospel version? What is this style called? I want to find more songs of this style. Any suggestions, please?
This is called Phil Spector's style. Listen to other records he produced and you will notice gospel, R&B, jazz and classical styles all blended into a big sound. the lead singer here is darlene love, and Phil had her sing on some of his more gospel sounding songs.

@MVillani1985 Not a fuzz guitar in Johnnie Burnette's songs! Distorsion is not fuzz…

Like Darlene Love. She was Danny Glover's wife in the Lethal Weapon movies.
