@ImportLegends16 --you probably dont know a whole lot about domestics(or engines in general) if your asking a question like that___my question to you is, why not put a single stick in a v8? or a v-10 for that mattet( which the viper still does and incorperates V.V.T.)--theres not any major disadvantages to an in block design-----cheers btw sweet vids @ the texas motor speedway
@gmkillr15 Understandable, yet I for one still disagree. I just feel that an engine will always run better due to having 2 cams per bank rather than 1 per bank or an in-block design. I do know quite a bit about engines, and I've remarkably taught myself just about everything I know about them. I started around 9 years old, hasn't stopped :) I don't know everything about them lol. Though you do seem to be a bit more educated than I. And thanks for the compliment :)
@ImportLegends16 __100% 4 sure , an engine will run more efficient off dual or quad cams but a single cam is still a powerhorse<<it dont matter< single**dual**or quad cam__everythings all good__cheers buddy
hey can anyone tell me is it posible to change the cam in a ls1 without pulling the engine out of the car and droping the sump, im guesing i have to so i can get the oil pump off, if anyone knows can you please write me a msg (its in a vx commodore the same as 2004 gto) Thanks!
@ddaverowee you cant take the intake and all the front accessory off, and radiator and pull it out the top like i did on my z28, its i bit of a pain if you do long tube headers. but you either have to have a special tool that goes down through the heads to hold the lifters up or you have to take the heads off
there was no instruction to removed oil pan. You have to pull the pan off to remove oil pump, also the cam retainer bolts were not properly torqued, just sayin good "how to" video though
you don't have to take the heads off to do a cam swap, you don't even need to take off the intake either. all you need to take apart is the timing chain, valve covers, and rockers to do it on an LS engine.
you dont need tdc for number one, just line up the timeing marks, then take the gears and cam out, then put the new in with the marks lined up.
THEN, after cam and things r in and hooked up, find tdc on compression stroke for #1 and line up one of the posts of the distributor, then wire up ur firing order.
So why didnt you replace the cam bearings? that runs the risk of scarring up the cam and doing engine damage

LS3 only has 1 Camshaft? That's stupid. Why would anybody only put 1 cam in an engine? Especially a V8

How are bolt on gains compared to an LS7 engine? which is more capable of squeezing more power? Is it worth adding more cash for an LS7?

What do you want to use to lubricate the new cam for installing it?
vio333 2 years ago
About 3 thing just off the top of my head he did wrong or careless.
1 the bolts on top of the valley with head open.
2 he didn't change the timing chain, look at all the slop in that chain
3 no one tube of sealant, mabe just for the vid I dunno.
And he didnt mention to anyone.THAT THIS IS HARDER WITH THE MOTOR IN THE CAR.

Nice Ford blue for that LS engine genious.
Also. don't lay the timing cover bolts on top of the valley pan with the heads off.

darn. i guess the motor has to come all the way out then..this is a bitch. no wonder mechanics are giving me high labor quotes.

@kief4diamonds The engine doesnt have to come out, it just makes your life easier.

how did you paint the block and timeing cover so fast?
jr93pdro 2 years ago
so whenever you install a cam, do you have to set the timing chain to the #1 cylinder at TDC? or is that just for a distributor?
