Compare his chord structures and riffs to Peter Buck's, probably his closest contemporary, and your bro has his answer. Oh and ask him to play the chorus to Charming man (single version) or William, or Back to the old house: he can just pick it straight up if it's so simple.

Fucking amazing. Really. The Marr-meister notoriously overlayed different guitar riffs to form the rich tapestry that was a Smith's song. I can't believe you can unravel the mystery so quickly. Good work fella !
