Actually, not that it matters, but most often, the game loads 6 jabu-jabu's. But it actually loads between 6 and 91. If you look at the game in UoT or something similar, it shows 6. But apparently there's something wrong and the code loops, loading more and more to the screen til the game freaks out. (I believe that's only if you enter from somewhere else on the map too)
Correct me if I'm mistaken, but I have heard that the Ocarina of Time Debug ROM based on the Master Quest can load this room properly, without risking the game crashing. Also, according to what I heard, this is because in these versions (1.0, 1.1 and 1.2) the reason why the area is so liable to crash is because the room loads 6 Jabu-Jabu moderls, most like each at the same spot, so you see "one" but are six. Source: The Cutting Floor Room.
@TheMexicanLynx I'd like to see that, I'll have to look it up. I knew there were at least two Jabu Jabu's inside of each other, but six is insane. Haha. I know you can only distinctly SEE two (two sets of feathers on his head, two rows of teeth) but I guess they could be directly overlapped in some cases. You can even hear the audio layered when he breathes.
@ChappyDee Yeah. o: I saw that, the "2 sets" of Jabu-Jabu... So it shows him with 4 sets of teeth (two down and two up) That's... creepy. XD My own little theory: 3 JabuJabus overlaped and other 3 overlaped but moved differently). Six is, indeed, very insane.
Nevermind, I'm sorry, it's number 2. This probably also means that areas that you need to play the ocarina, it probably had that pedestal. Interesting!
When you explore cutscenes, you can find some cool stuff. like when Ruto finds her stone the room outside has a door sticking out halfway from the wall, another has two electrical sponges embedded in the floor, and another has a duplicate water surface high in the room. In beta quest, you are basically exploring stopped cutscenes. It was through beta quest that I discovered that the scene with link and zelda in the sky is none other than hyrule field, invisible. I confirmed this in the debug rom
erm, i've heard there are more like six jabu jabus maybe even like ten. It's hard to say as they all overlap the same spot, but i'm pretty sure there's more than two. the sheer number can cause a crash.
@MushroomGalaxy69 copied and pasted from TVtropes: One reason for this is because most video game consoles use static file structures, referring to particular data segments. Much of the debugging was getting the structure to cooperate with the console, so removing large batches of code was impractical at best and often opened up more problems than it solved. As such, unless the space was needed, dummied content would just be left in with all references in the other files cut.
@TheCorruptPlague Ahhh, so in Laymen's terms: It screws up the program & causes a lot more debugging if they extract data that is already embedded in the master copy, so they only delete unused data when they absolutely need memory space (even though it's a pain in the ass). What we are seeing here is content that went too far before they decided to scrap it, so in order to avoid discomfort, they swept it under the rug instead of destroying it. Am I right or did I not understand everything?
How do you access beta areas? I'm using a project64 emulator, and in the cheats I have selected "access beta areas by holding R" but when I hold the R equivalent on the keyboard, nothing happens. What am I supposed to do?
@TwilightPrincess68 You will need to use the "Beta Quest" code, which differs depending on which version of the game you have. Your game version should be 1.0, 1.1, or 1.2 unless you have the GameCube ROM. 1.0 was the gold cartridge with the swordless link glitches still intact. 1.1 fixed these glitches, I believe. And if my memory serves me correctly, 1.2 is the one with the changed Fire Temple music.
Basically, you enter the Beta Quest code and reset the ROM, and you're instantly in the BQ.
Modifying the last four digits will start you off in a different variant of the Beta Quest. I believe the code I entered here changed them to "0001". It's been years since I've really fooled around with it, but I believe everything from "0000-0008" worked. Don't hold me accountable to that one, though, it's been a really long time. Haha.
after further inspection, it seems that the reason it crashes there are because its actually an undefined warp-point. The ice cavern works in that area, but the great fairy fountain does not. there also appears to be something else here which, when the game attempts to load, crashes. it's not because of the 2 jabu jabu's.
you know, the funny thing about this area, is that you can trigger a cutscene.
jump cut shot to link, then to jabu jabu, then jabu jabu opens up, and breathes in. then jump cut shot looking at link from inside jabu jabu, and then it just kinda stops there :/
new funny thing! with the slant code on, go into the great fairy's fountain. I wont tell you what happens, you'll have to find out for your self. Also post a vid of it. I would if i could.
New discovery! when you try to take the door back to zorra's domain without the code, the game will freeze before you reach it. But with the code, you will be in a whiteish room. link is not there and you can't move. there is a large rotating boulder in the sky
I realized that i had the code on after i posted the comment. I did find that if you go into the ice cave you will be in the iron knuckle room in the spirt temple with no way out!
When I wnt there i got something diffrent. The pad was at an angle and i could stand on it! also the platform around the pad was fall through-able, except the area in front of the pad.
@superzeldafan64 Sounds like you were using the Specific Things Lean GameShark code, which makes certain things slant at an angle (like the Ocarina pad) and keeps the game from crashing in certain situations. My guess is that you can fall through all the areas that normally crash the game when you use this code.
Thanks for sharing that with us! I didn't think of trying that code in that spot. Did you find anything different?
If I'm playing the GameCube version on my Wii with the GCN controller, can I access to Beta rooms? Or can I download this version somewhere?

Why can't they delete this stuff from the disc storage? Are they just too lazy to do it, or does it take more than just clicking a button?
MushroomGalaxy69 1 year ago
@MushroomGalaxy69 Maybe they knew some day people would be able to open up hidden parts of the SNES files so they left it on for people to find.
