  • thanks for the tips

  • @afiq8219

    You are welcome.

    Thanks for the comment

  • There are a lot of brands in silicone, what do you have to look for to buy a good silicone ?

    Good video !!

  • @lepaul26

Get a good quality one that contains Microban or similar. Everbuild's Forever white, or forever ivory are good as well as Dow Corning sealants

  • Thanks!

  • @ailaG

    You are welcome

  • Thanks! I tried using a silicon gun for the first time just now and couldn't control the volume coming out no matter what. It appears that I cut too much off the end. Off to find something that'll act like a nozzle...

  • @skatehaliak

Perhaps you should lean how to spell before you go using a silicone gun ;-)

  • Very helpful - thanks lad. I'm DIY hopeless and you sorted me.

  • @bigblokeinblack

    Glad it helped.

    Thanks for the comment

  • I actually love your accent! It makes me miss living in England (I called Suffolk home for four years). Nice and neat tip by the way :)

  • @APEARification

I think you are the only person on youtube that likes my accent LOL

    Thanks for the comment ;-)

  • @ultimatehandyman I like your accent too :D

Anyway woohooo!! I bought myself a caulking gun and a tube of silicon! Hopefully it will work as smoothly as your video *crosses fingers* I need to remove the previous layer of silicon though :/ Any tips for that?

  • @audreyteoh

You can buy a special product called silicone remover that you apply and leave for a while and it makes it much easier to remove it ;-)

  • The tutorial is great but for me is very hard to understand what are you actually saying... your accent is so strong and you speak very quickly. It would be perfect if you could add closed captions. Thanks BTW!

  • thanks for the washing up liquid tip!

  • @madspooney

    You are welcome.

    Thanks for the comment ;-)

  • Thank you, I never used the "screw trick" before and the silicone actually hardened, I'll try it next time :)

  • @Stratocasterized

If you get a good fitting screw it works well, you can also put some tape over the screw to seal it even better ;-)

    Thanks for the comment

  • Thanks! Brilliant video off to give it a try on my bath haha wish me luck! Girl doing DIY!

  • @NicolaMcmanusx

Good luck. I'm doing a bath sealing tutorial in the next few weeks ;-)

    Thanks for the comment

  • That's brilliant! Off to try it on my bath lol wish me luck! Girl doing DIY! Thanks!!

  • @NicolaMcmanusx

    Good luck

    Thanks for the comment ;-)

  • thank you for this video. only issue was that just as you said keep your fingers away. i heard a screem from downstairs, my girlfriend clearly had not watched this video before hand and now has a cut in her thumb.

  • Thanks for the video :)

  • @lash69

    You are welcome ;-)

  • how can you make it last longer then a few weeks

  • @dealio82

If you put a screw in the end and seal around it with silicone it normally lasts much longer. When you come to use it remove the screw and the hard silicone and it should be ok to use again.

  • Thanks for the advice. Cheers

  • @QBromley

  • @h2oworld123

    You are welcome.

    Thanks for the comment

  • Many thanks for the video, use of the gun, regulating delivery speed and pressure was all pretty obvious to me but the washing up liquid tip is exactly what I was missing.

    Thanks again.

  • @redrosecounty

    You are welcome.

  • Cheers. Thanks alot for your help.

  • @pafmic

  • I have spent the morning applying sealant to the garage door frame. The gun I used was a B&Q own brand in black plastic. I had to use two hands to pull the trigger to get a small amount of sealant out of the nozzle. In the end I had to pump out an inch or so and transfer it manually to the frame. I don't entirely blame my tool, but the task definitely required more muscle power than needed for cake decorating.

  • @ohdrdrdr

It can be hard to squeeze the handles if not enough of the tubes sealing cap has been removed, or it could be a faulty gun or cartridge. I have had a cartridge in the past that was difficult to get the contents out!

  • @ultimatehandyman Thank you for an instant reply. This is my first experience with sealant, so I did not know what to expect. After viewing the video, I gather that the gun does not require a pumping action, rather the bead continues to form as long as the trigger is pulled back. I don't know whether the fault lies with the gun, the cartridge or the operator. Thank you again for the instruction.

  • @ohdrdrdr

That's right, you squeeze the handles together to force the silicone out. It's a case or regulating the squeeze pressure and speed of movement of the gun which gives a good bead of the correct size.

    Thanks for the comment

  • youve done this before havent you ;P? should see the state on my beading made 1 hell of a mess in me bathroom, whats best to smooth over with? rag or finger?

  • @BBcokeley

If you want a really neat finish you can use a silicone tool such as the fugenboy. I have done a video on the fugenboy, it should be viewable from my channel. Or I often just use my finger with some washing up liquid, the important thing is to apply the right amount of silicone.

  • nice video.. I had to use silicone today and didn't have a 'gun' (I didn't even know there were such things). I ended up squeezing out the silicone by using a broom handle.. and when that got a bit cramped I moved over to using a pen.. painful as hell to do though.

  • @gokiburi666

It's difficult getting the silicone out without the proper gun, you did well to get any out!

    Thanks for the comment

  • Good tip on the screw, mine always goes off.

  • @elvis459

  • @plaguess11

    You are welcome

  • What a great tip! I do have a question, will the soap on the finger tip work with 100% Silicon? I find that stuff to be really sticky and more sticky than acrylic caulking. Thank you in advance.

  • @whoissugar

    You are welcome.

    Thanks for the comment!

  • @bavarebava

    You are welcome!

  • i am welsh, what more could could life possibly offer.

  • @MrSealerman

    lol

  • mastic is a generic name used by professional sealant applicators and suppliers who have mastered the dark art of using a sealant gun and as results depend on the equipment used it must be made by cox, pound shop bin bargains just will not do,anyway i am now off to gun several hundred more metres of high modulous dow corning sanitary silicone to complete my dayas iam bored with your amateurish efforts, stop frothing at the mouth its only light hearted banter you are probably an ok guy, hee, hee

  • @MrSealerman

You are probably a decent guy too, despite having a crap job ;-)

If you had done better at school you could of got a proper job ;-)

  • not a genius, just an experienced masticman(1987) who will help anyone ,but you were not giving credit to any one who watched your video, yawn, credit for any common sense it, was so slow.mastic probably cured several times off camera..

  • @MrSealerman

You don't even know the difference between Mastic and Silicone.

Now read the title of the video- HOW TO USE A SILICONE GUN OR CAULK GUN

  • does this guy think that everyones a thicko, talk about slow and deliberate,as for black silicone in baths and showers it has to be removed no good trying to clean it.two possible reasons why its black.1.wrong silicone used, must have antibacterial content in it,or,2.not enough air movement to evaporate water away after use open windows, keep shower door open install vent,if grout is discoloured its the lack of air thats causing it.

  • @MrSealerman

Not everyone is a freaking genius like you :-)

  • Great video ,thanks ! any tips on getting rid of old silicone around surfaces ?some of it has turned black around my bath ! also what about corners? how to get a neat effect .any tips will be helpfull thanks

  • @philnicky1

If you check out my other videos I have done one on how to remove silicone and one on how to get neat silicone lines using the fugenbouy kit. The black stains can often be removed using strong bleach, or Domestos grot buster works well

  • @ultimatehandyman

Grotbuster is amazing!! Best product for its purpose ive ever seen.

  • Very Very Helpful...thank you very much

  • Great tip re the fairy liquid. Thanks. 'Er indoors very impressed with the result.

  • @taliskersponge

I have a mate and his job is to seal for a living, he does a lot of windows and gaps in motorway bridges etc. When ever he silicones he has a spray bottle (the kind used for gardening) he fills it with washing up liquid mixed with water and uses this to spray over the silicone before smoothing it. Glad Er' indoors was happy with the result ;-)

  • The difficult part I found was running my finger over it after applying the initial bead. The fair lipsquid trick will be the next method to try - i like that.

    Nice little vid.

  • @flapbean

    Thanks for the comment ;-)

  • @Droolster

    You are welcome ;-)

  • This is brilliant! thank you so much - I WAS wondering how to get the silicone in the gun. thanks again!

  • This was helpful as I couldn't figure out how to get the cartridge into the gun, thanks.

  • @joeavfc93

    Good luck with the training!

I have been told that there is a chemical in silicone that makes your hair fall out, I don't know if it is true or not, but I still never do it ;-)

If you are doing a lot of siliconing do a google for fugenboy, it is a kit that can help give neater beads. Thanks for the comment!

  • Excellent advice from a man who obviously knows, thank you. The screw plug trick to stop the remaining stuff congealing in the nozzle was new to me & will probably save a fortune over the years! What would you recommend if you cut the tube off further down for a fat bead though? A coach bolt or perhaps a tapered dowel plug maybe? And what do you reckon to the Fugi profiling kits?

  • @2010DeeKay

Anything that will fit in the nozzle and block it will help to seal it. I have tried the fugenboy kit when tiling a splashback and I found it hard to use, it also did not give a perfect line where the vertical grout lines were.

  • you're the man

    great tips :)

  • Trying to teach myself diy so that I can maintain my own house. This video is a great start ! Going to visit main site to see what else I can learn . Thanks !

  • @Bignichostylee

    Good luck

  • can u use silicone to repair the ripped circle in the middle of the speaker ?

  • @Lilmoney830

It depends how bad it is.

Can you not use super glue?

  • Wish I'd watched this BEFORE trying to seal my kitchen sink lol. Bit of a mess on brand new bench tops :(

  • Thanks for the vid. What I use to stop it going off, I remove the nozzle, place a plastic bag over the thread and then re-fit the nozzle sealing the silicone inside. It stays good for months.

  • @stedrake

    Thanks for the comment!

  • Thank you so much, I'll go back in the shed and put a screw on the end as i juts finished a job just before watching this, Cheers matey

  • @catkashan

  • wow thank you so much like honestly so much me and my mom took me months to figure how to use the gun and the silicon lol

    thanks you again !!!

  • thanks handy man :D me and myy mum were trying to find out how to put the silicon thing in the gun or whatever its called for about 30 mins LOOL

  • Thanks so much! now I dont have to make an ass out of myself by calling stepdad :)
