how difficult did you find it to get the receiver dimensions right on the reweld? I've been thinking of doing one myself, but am a bit intimidated with getting the reveiver back together wiht any sort of accuracy
The registered part of the gun is a MG-3 restamped MG-1. Yes but the rest of the parts of the gun is from various MG 42 series. There is no consistent source for parts and the parts are a mix like I said.
@prdubi man where is the stabile firing possition?? i have fired the mg3 one time, did about 200 rounds, and i didnt do no crappy ass 5round burst, i did first 10-15round burst and then i did 50round bursts. And that is when you really can enjoy the weapon
You need to keep the bipods level and vertical and diagonal to the machinegun. Secondly try using your left hand to keep the butt/stock in your shoulder by pressing underneath (your hand fits in the stock) - have fun
I have more experience using it on the ground or on a tripod than a bench table. Learning it but still a fun gun to play with. Sadly my reload is running dry.
Sorry it was long from before. The gun was in storage since the 80's so getting all the gunk out is taking time and also getting the links and everything else to work. Playing around with a muzzle brake, and some heavy buffer bolts to slow it down.
Gorgeous weapon, can't believe they are replacing it after all these years, it doesn't need replacing!

hmmm next time push gun forward against bipod, hold butt tight with left hand as you did in the end.

It's a mix of parts from MG-42, MG-42/59, MG53....MG-3 MG-1.

pushing into the bipod is the best method. so the whole body blocks the recoil. it doesnt work well unless youre prone neither.
