hello , I've ordered through eBay with 8.9 touch panel and controller. The controller has 5 inputs / outputs USB-IN, USB1, USB2, USB3, and TOUCH. it is obvious that the panel connects to a TOUCH input but to me it is not clear how to connect the other connectors. Thanks for any suggestion.
Ok, so I wonder if anyone can answer me this, I have a regular Toshiba Satelite, and I want to make it a touch screen, but not the stupid put a thing over the screen and voila! I want to either do something like the guy in this video did, or buy a touch screen replacement and install it on my laptop. The thing I need to know is if this is possible. Do I need things to add to the motherboard or can I just swap out the screens? I have replaced parts on my laptop before but not a touch screen. :)
Hi I broke my Asus EEEPC 1005 PEB 10.1 inch screen. I want to buy the screen online, but I am confused because I am not sure the screen wil fit in or not. Can any1 tell me are all the 10.1 ich for asus are same or not? Please that will be a huge favour.
Chuvak, awesome video! Hope it works for me as nicely as it did for you... Good luck and thanks for sharing your skills and knowledge with us mortals :)
now thats what i was looking for .. a detailed video with more than just "Now u do this, I have prepared that already, ..." great video ... And it gives me an idea how long it will take.
Very impressive modification, how much did the touch screen cost? (And how much would a manufacturer charge for a laptop with a touch screen I wonder) I expect that due to their (low) price, netbooks such as the eee will spawn a sizable modding community.
With the technology that is built into that touchscreen, it will automatically calibrate itself. You can jnal on the inside of your computer. Everythust solder the wires onto any electric termiing should be fine. After you finish the soldering, turn on the computer. You don't need to check your connections. If you smell any thing burning, don't worry, these touch screens literally have a "burn-in" period. This is how I did mine. Its so freakin' awesome! Trust me, you can do it.

Excellent. The touch screen looks like it works beautifully. The line "I'll use the force if you don't come nicely" cracked me up. After my warranty expires on my 901 I think I may do this. Does this modification affect power consumption and/or increase heat in the chassis? Thanks for posting a great video.
please be patient with me man.....I discovered the Eeepc a little more than a month ago,so I'm kinda newbish.Than what did u sacrifice to connect the touchscreen controler 2?also what can u tell me of those "solderless" touchscreens on ebay?I kinda want to not get involved with that part(I have at fingers and low sensitivity and might brake the whole damn Eeepc)Thnaks in advance and greets from Romania!
In the US, you can do anything to products and still have a valid warranty as long as what you did didn't cause damage to the unit. So you can solder, but if your soldering causes damage, your warranty is void, and ASUS will not fix it. Not so in other countries.
Kapton tape works well for small soldering since it can take all the heat the soldering iron can put out without melting. Just cut out a small mask and place it over the soldering area. Works great for those of us with unsteady hands.
Hey Jkk, another great video. just wondering if you had the use the webcam port as you did on the 701? i realy want to nstall a touchscreen but dont want to lose the web cam?
looks like he was using XP then switched to vista? and are there any other upgrades because it seem to run really fast for web browsing and opening apps

Hi just wondering. If the touch panel controller is standard usb, Why didn't you just solder it on the inner side of the usb port ?
Why did you hassle with those tiny connectors, aren't all usb ports same?

the cursor was there because you have places the touch panel wrong
you had to place it such that the wire was on the left but you did it the other way
well it doesn't matter because of calibration!!!
