What he did was dangerous,& foolish(He tried to do it) Having done it twice,it should be noted that at least one game was lost tho I do forget which one. Dawkins should have turned his attention to rebounding better, He was pitiful in that area for a man his size & with his ability.
@bushhhhhh11 A College career would have helped him. There was definitely some talent ,but he was entirely too inconsistant. He often played well against the better centers but would disappear aginst the lesser ones. I grew tired of defending him to his detractors & I found myself agreeing with them after a few years.
@Nickcat5. That was due to his drug use coke and marijuana. Against superstars, he would stay clean but against lesser players, he would party and snort. In his book, he said he drank, smoked weed, and had sex but I really think it was the coke. In college, I think he would have ended up with a drinking and sex addiction because he had such superior talent. It wouldn't have mattered. I think the NBA actually helped him.

NBA players have definitely changed. Notice that when commissioner calls Dawkins up and tells him he wants to see him, Daryl reacts the way a little kid would react when he's been called to the principal's office: "Oh, NO! I'm in TROUBLE!"
NOW when a player gets called by the commisioner, they're like: "So? Let 'em fine me. I don't give a DAMN! I got ENDORSEMENTS! The commissioner can kiss my a**!!!"
Any player whose contact with the basket ring or backboard causes the back-board to shatter or makes the ring unplayable will be penalized in the following manner:
(1) Pre-game and/or Half-time warm-ups-No penalty to be assessed by officials.
(2) During the game-Non-unsportsmanlike conduct technical foul. Under NO circumstances will that player be ejected from the game. The Commissioner will review all actions and plays involved in the shattering of a backboard.
Love this "Chocalate Thundah" dunk. As Dawkins walks away from the shattered remains...one of the guys on the other team's bench jumps up quickly and hides behind his team-mates as if he thinks Dawkins is gonna break him next. Classic coward.
@Ariamaluum I never said anything bad about Dawkins. I loved "Chocolate Thunder". I meant the guy on the bench that ran away is the coward. You mis-understood my post.
@mcentepede. Darryl had the smile face but in his autobio, he said he had an evil twin named Darnell. When games weren't televised, Darnell seemed to surface. Yeah, that dude was a coward but he could make brave guys into wussies.
I would just like to say I got to meet Mr. Dawkins and he is one heck of a great guy and I would say he looks down on no one and he respects all. Great guy!
TV Reporter : In other news a rookie Shaquille O' Neal has broken the backboard in a game.

@mcentepede. Say what you will. Darryl Dawkins was one bad dude. You didn't mess with him. Dave Cowens found out as well as Maurice Lucas.

Today according to NBA rules Breaking a backboard is a technical foul.
MrBennetzen 1 year ago 42
@MrBennetzen well they also changed the material of backboard. its much stronger now. it can even handle dwight's massive dunks
327372 1 year ago
@MrBennetzen no, you can't break the backboards, they have breakaway rims so they wont shatter the back board
ICaptainTaylor 1 year ago
@ICaptainTaylor not true man, it's still possible to break a backboard that has breakaway rims, it's just a lot tougher to do
thes1KK 1 year ago
@MrBennetzen which is impossible so it doesnt matter if thats even true

@MrBennetzen it's a technical ownage.
GatsuOnBerserk 2 months ago 2
@MrBennetzen That's because the only way to break today's backboards is to hang on it and even that's near enough impossible.
