Amazing book! The SAS are the best - and that's a fact. The trecked hundreds of miles to get to the border only to be captured and tortured (the only three who died were victims of hypothermia, the enemy didn't kill any) but they killed loads of arab dudes. By the way, if you like this you should read Strikeback and Land of Fire by Chris Ryan too.

If I said that about the british going in six men groups, its because not too long ago they went to war in something called SECTIONS, and when the L85 came in (they previously had the battle rifle L1A1), they abandoned the section and adopted the fireteam formation (similar to the US squad), they stopped going in six men groups and started going in eight men groups
@948L0 doesn't mean they need too. if u notice they are using m16s and minimi light machine gun, where the regular British army use the L85 A2s and SA80 A2 LSW instead, different regiments use different weapons and tactics

Stan carried the main radio as well but they never got it working as they had the wrong frequencies for their area.

It all depends on what you define as 'special forces' mate. Many consider the Royal Green jackets (light infantry) to be the first special force as they scouted ahead of the line infantry and were the first to use rifles. This was why they then developed the idea of using camoflage which gave them the name 'Green Jackets'. People could no doubt do the same with units that came before right back to the Greeks.

In Mcnab's book Seven Troop he said the first time he went out with his new troop for 4 man contact drills, he was second in the line, when the shooting started he moved right of chris in front & opened fire expecting him to turn back and move past him while the two guys behind him peel off to one side & open fire so that he can also move back. What actually happened was the guy in front gave a full 30 round mag on full auto while the two guys behind mcnab started advancing, firing as they went.

Well lads, in my opinion there is no BEST unit.
Theres plenty you know: SAS, Royal Marines, Navy SEALS, Delta Force, Green Barets, KSK, Fernspaeher, Kampfschwimmer, and many, many more.
But all of them got one thing in common:
They are ALL top notch soldiers, and deserve all the respect they can get.

I thought the British were more like in the 3-men per squad type (3, 6, 12, 24)
While the Americans were more suited to go in = 4, 8, 16, 32
I was hoping to see them go six/nine men (in two/three squads, with one LMG and two rifles per squad)

If I said that about the british going in six men groups, its because not too long ago they went to war in something called SECTIONS, and when the L85 came in (they previously had the battle rifle L1A1), they abandoned the section and adopted the fireteam formation (similar to the US squad), they stopped going in six men groups and started going in eight men groups

@The666thBowelOfHell In both Bravo Two Zero and The One That Got Away it says they ditched their bergens as their full kit weighed 204 pounds, and they'd not be able to outrun the Iraqi's carrying it, they just kept hold of their weapons, and belt kits carrying ammo, tacbe radios and a portion of their rations and water. Stan carried the main radio as well but they never got it working as they had the wrong frequencies for their area.

it was at the part they showed in the movie, they were getting shot at by an anti aircraft gun, Chris ran back to his bergen, they thought he was grabbing the medi-kit but it was his hip flask which was a present from the missus. Just took a look in the one that got away - Chris Ryan's version on page 83 & 84, 'Then somebody shouted "i'm ditching my fucking bergen!" Then somebody else yelled "You're fucking right! I am too!" What cant be denied is that Chris Ryans E & E has gone down in Regimental history and one of the greatest ever who surpassed the benchmark set by SAS Corporal Jack Sillitoe, who trekked more than 100 miles through the western desert of North Africa in 1942.

the first was set up by the germans before the 2. world war started...
called "Division Brandenburg" or just called "Brandenburgers" ...

It all depends on what you define as 'special forces' mate. Many consider the Royal Green jackets (light infantry) to be the first special force as they scouted ahead of the line infantry and were the first to use rifles. This was why they then developed the idea of using camoflage which gave them the name 'Green Jackets'. People could no doubt do the same with units that came before right back to the Greeks.

In Mcnab's book Seven Troop he said the first time he went out with his new troop for 4 man contact drills, he was second in the line, when the shooting started he moved right of chris in front & opened fire expecting him to turn back and move past him while the two guys behind him peel off to one side & open fire so that he can also move back. What actually happened was the guy in front gave a full 30 round mag on full auto while the two guys behind mcnab started advancing, firing as they went.
