My only suggestion would be to make a false bottom that can be removed, simply for aesthetics... It isn't the most appealing thing, to see the workings of an electronic music box, and without some kind of protection, would most likely be damaged when used for actual storage... ^____^' Other than that, it's definitely a cool idea. :D

I know other people have had the idea of covering the speakers. Well, here it is again: You could decorate it inside and out, make a sort of step inside to hide the speakers (not unlike those that hide the gears in wind-up music boxes) and cover the top of the step with speaker grille cloth. Call someone who repairs music equipment - particularly speakers and amplifiers - to see if they would sell or give away some scraps of it. Get some nice fabric, glue, pieces of wood and a staple gun.

Taking 8 additional seconds you could have made those cuts look nice. Doing a hack isn't just about making it work but making it look good, especially if it is a gift. Nothing says "I care but not enough to do a decent job" as quickly as the dremel job you did on that case. You can also put a small false bottom to cover the electronics, add a 1.5 volt motor and a rotating Mario keychain figure to false bottom to spin about when the lid is opened. I think I'll try it myself.
