  • FINALLY hot for teacher drum intro, you're amazing

  • @TheJanek566

Thanks. But this was not very faithful to the original "hot for teacher" drum intro, which was done in studio with a lot of overdubs by Alex. Think of it as my personal interpretation, and it was done only as a warm-up.

This guy does an even better job of it. Well, at least closer than mine to the original anyway.

    His user name is: vansdrumming

Just type "hot for teacher drum" in youtube, and it's the sixth result down.

    Thanks again.

  • @AlainHubert whether it was faithful or not you are one hell of a drummer. And i very much like your interpretation. Peace.

  • so, how do you like the mics as a whole for live or studio recording

  • @19pitbull73

I've never had the chance to try them in a live situation. But for studio use, they're pretty darn impressive. Especially in this price range. I was skeptical at first, but was astounded by their performance.

And no, I'm not working for Equation Audio. What I say, I truly mean it.

  • @AlainHubert the reason why i asked becaused i just bought some, for my set and i wanted to know how they do on an live stage

  • you are such a rush fan !! hahah i can tell me being one as well =)

anyone wana check out my tom sawyer cover would be cool =) its not great but meh i love dums

  • @kcbszone

I think its impossible to play just like Neil does.

  • sounds very nice! was their any extra EQing or effects added afterwards orwere they just recorded as they sounded? :D

  • @gabbalabbawoop

Thanks. Just a very slight EQing (mostly for the 2 overhead mics to keep only the highs frequency content from the cymbals) and a light touch of reverb on the overall sound added during recording.

Keep in mind that my toms are big. 13", 14", 18" and tuned low.

  • Awesome man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • fffffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu..............iiiinnnggg awesomee!!!

  • I hear Neil Peart there sometimes

  • What headphones are those?

  • @Anonymous122131

    Equation Audio RP-22X

  • perfect

  • That was awesome - very musical!

  • thats so neil peaet inspired rite????rite? i wish i was dat gud...

  • YES!

  • Nice guitar man

  • @AlainHubert

    Just sayin.

  • @AvengedSevenfoldDrum avenged sevenfold worst metal band ever....slipknot > avenged sevenfold

  • @l4dhunter200

Oh yeah i'm sure now that you tried to make me look bad everyone will think your so freaking awesome. Opinions are like assholes dude, everyone's got one, you don't see me hating on your favorite bands, in fact i do like slipknot, and a lot of Avenged Sevenfold songs aren't even metal so how can you compare? Troll.

  • @AvengedSevenfoldDrum cuz their supposed to be metal

  • @l4dhunter200

You should probably listen to more than 2 of their songs before you determine what genre they are. They even have a few country songs, a couple of alternative songs, there's no telling what genre "A Little Piece of Heaven" is, really dude stop hating and maybe people will like you.

  • ....neil shit !!!!!!

  • the ride thing at 0:38 is so awesome..

  • How many years have you been playing drums

  • @xtreme17alex

About 30 years, on and off. I'm 45. BTW, thanks for the sub!

  • that was great, i wanna drum like that one day, started about 3 months ago

  • @rrobertry

Thanks! You only have 357 more months to go... Nah, just kidding. You should be able to play something close to that in about between 24 and 48 months from now, depending on how hard you work at it.

The important thing is to keep having fun doing it!

  • @AlainHubert thanks for the advice

  • 0:29 Slim Shady playing drums.

  • @2real2touch

Haha! First, my hair is silver, not blonde. Second, I wear a mustache and he doesn't. Third, I play drums much better than him.

  • What kind of drum kit is that?

  • Nice Peart-esque work there!!

  • @1d0drum

Thanks. Peart-esque is the word! I'm not sure about Van Halen-esque though...lol

  • man that was really great, but you need a better cam. The audio is so clean but the video is such low quality.

  • @MrPsychoticInsomniac

Yeah, I know. This was recorded over 4 years ago on an old camcorder. I've upgraded since.

    Thanks.

  • That just put me in a good mood, great job!

  • what a shit is this?

  • @cybertech22 Troll alert!

  • AWESOME

  • are those Octobans i'm hearing in the solo?

  • @kingmickey123

These are Rototoms. Sort of Octobans without a shell.

  • This is so awesome! props for u dude ;)

  • Alain,

Bravo! Nick M.

  • @nickman999

Salut Nick! Long time no see! How have you been? Merci pour les compliments, j'espère juste que je joue quand même un petit peu mieux qu'il y a 20 ans! (just a joke, I know I am) Hahaha! It was good to hear from ya!

    Alain.

    Nick.

  • @nickman999

1 bass drum, 1 double pedal that hits that 1 bass drum. (you can see the 2 beaters in front of my right leg).

  • Nice! Drums are fun

  • hot for a teacher lol really

  • @brettandtyler1

Did you even read the info ?

  • @AlainHubert yea

  • @brettandtyler1 im just saying

  • @brettandtyler1

What exactly ARE you saying ? That the start of this video has nothing to do with Hot For Teacher from Van Halen? You're right, it hasn't. It's simply a drum solo played be me. The real question is: did you still like it, or did you hate it ?

  • @brettandtyler1 yea i like it

  • from 1:15 it sounds like Neil Pearts drumsolo with a few changes :P

  • Love the sound of your Roto's. What kind of Mic did you use to mic them?

  • @Retro80sDude

Thanks. The same kind I use all around the kit: Equation Audio MTD.7.2 drum mics kit.

  • the beginning of the second part of the drum solo was that from the Neil Peart Drum solo

  • @BipolarBearsmusic

Inspired by, but not a faithful reproduction of it. Same with the "hot for teacher" at the start.

    Nevertheless, did you like it?

  • @AlainHubert yes very much so

  • i have one letter to say "G"

  • im air druming lol

  • needs more cowbell

  • genial

  • DAMN!

  • dude i loved it!!

  • fuckin great drummer

  • That is amazing work, and all naturale!

  • thoght its guna be Tarzan theme song at the begining

  • there was a little pause in the begginning its good though

  • Awesome!

  • @Crucifer3

Thanks Jeff ! You're pretty awesome too on the Metal side ! Not really my preferred type of music, but I can appreciate a good drummer playing it when I see one ;-D

    Alain.

  • Thanks man! I appreciate it....I have about 5 or 6 Gary Numan covers uploaded!

    Take care man....keep making videos!

  • AAX explosion right i love those cymbal

  • braincrisp1 i think so too :P

  • Drums sound amazing and the cymbals are so crisp and bright. Great sounding set!

  • @braincrisp1

Thanks! Yep, those Sabian cymbals do sound great together. Oh, but let's not forget that punchy Zildjian China... BTW, Sabian was founded by the sons of Avedis Zildjian, so I guess part of the father's knowledge about cymbal making was transferred down to Sabian cymbals too, I guess...

  • @AlainHubert yep the name sabian comes from the grandsons - SA (sally), BI (Billy), and AN (Andy)

  • NICE!!!!!!!!! ^^;

  • Not a big fan of roto-toms as far as sound goes, but I have to tell you, I think yours sound great. They have a very Neil Peart (1980's concert tom) sound. Great techniques. Thanks for the post. Cheers

  • very steezy

  • haha the start sounds like mr brownstone from guns n roses xD

  • dude you totally sound like neil pearts r30 solo in one part

  • Veri cool !

  • One word... Beast!

  • what kind of drum mikes to you use?, thanks glenn

  • @glenmann62

They are listed on my main channel page, on the bottom left of the page.

  • pretty dam good!

  • Got to say, this is really nice... I played drums for years, sold the last set when I had kids and haven't gotten back around to them. Listening to this kills me...

    Excellent job...

  • reminds me of a neal peart solo...its a great solo dude!!!

  • haha this is sweet, also i am trying to make my toms sound less like a tone, and more of a hollow thud...any tips? thanks

  • @Watchmehrock

Thanks! I'm using Remo Pinstripe heads (top) with MoonGels and tune the bottom head tight, top head loose...Hope this helps a little.

  • Digin' it! Especially your own thing at the end...

  • Very musical solo.

  • @Avedisdrummer09

    Thanks Tim !

  • Love it! I fave'd this a while ago but I still love the Neil influence. Great job.

  • @Stickman53fe

Thank you! Glad you like my little Van Halen - Peart tribute.

  • @AlainHubert I truly do. Fantastic. I have been playing for 25 years, but I never stop learning from listening/watching others. Thanks!

  • @Stickman53fe

That's exactly what I do, too! I'm sure you would also be interesting to watch on the kit !

  • @AlainHubert I'll let you know when I finally post something of mine. Congrats to you for having the balls to put your stuff on youtube knowing that there are "certain" individuals who get on here just to slam people. Keep in mind, the negative comments usually come from people who don't have any videos of themselves posted. Personally, I have a bad temper so I really stay away from posting knowing that someone will say something truly stupid and I won't be able to do anything about it.

  • can you make a video showing how to do the intro?

  • Im having orgasms with the sound of the kit, nice low toms!!!!! and nice improv as well

  • @REDUCEFATFAS

Hahaha! Glad to be able to provide such pleasure for you with my kit. It wasn't designed as a sex toy though! Thanks !

  • @AlainHubert Yeah man!!! it sounds great!!! i whouldn't need a wife with a set like that!!! Hehehe btw, which brand is it???

  • @REDUCEFATFAS

It's a mix of Pearl and Tama. You can see all the details about it on my channel at the bottom left.

  • wow this is like the combination of hot for teacher, neil peart's heartbeat drum solo, and some random ass kicking awesome stuff !!!

  • ...omg soooooo epic!!!!!!

  • There may have been overdubbing in the studio, but every piece of that intro is very playable, theres only 3 layers total throughout the entire piece. but anyways very neil peartesk solo style pretty legit.

  • That is a lot of left brain right brain working going on. Great

  • holy shiz

im diggin that + teh sound quality was amazo

  • gr8 stickingg-- tho that hi-hat feels left out

  • Nice drumming

  • LOL NICE neil peart man geez

  • ur the best person i hav seen doin a cover of this song without the music!!! u rock!!

  • beast

  • If Van Halen had Neil Peart play Hot for Teacher in concert with them...this is what would happen. Haha awesome, good job man!

  • Haha! That's a good one, Thanks!

  • bad ass

  • My friend plays the intro on double bass on the floor tomm

  • so does this guy, because thats how its played.

  • you my friend are one hell of a bad ass drummer any chance you are coming to rhode island???

  • great men

    you are good whit

    the drums

  • peart fan ...... deff

  • Yep!

  • hahah he is a beast .... probably one of the most technical percussionist ever!!!!

i have heard him play a block of wood and make it sound good

you are a vry well put together drummer

for that my friend i salute you sir =)

  • Thanks man!

  • holy shit im comment number 69, well thats some badass drumming

  • hyperactive oO :D

  • LOL the beggining of the solo sounds similar to Neil Peart's on R30

  • nice drum solo.

  • You know what I love about this solo? The fact that you could dance to it. Most drum solos are a collection of random shite that are utterly devoid of rhythm. This has a great groove to it. Loved it. Keep up the great work!

  • i like the George of The Jungle intro version lol naw but u rock dude i mean not anyone can play the intro and improivse with HOT FOR TEACHER by the great VAN HALEN!!

  • @MrBlackice95

    the great van halen?

    ha yeah right..

more like "The rock gods known as van halen" ;]

  • This solo was COOL. Bravo Alain,it's great what you're doing. This solo reminds me one of jean-Michel Jarre's tracks called Calypso. Wouldn't be great if you do some cover of this track ? Just giving suggestion :D Or maybe i should try it with my drums at home :P

  • YEAH MAN YOU ARE PRETTY GOOD!

  • ja ja good auto:)

  • that was very impressive. how long have you been playing?

  • Reminds me of Simon Phillips. Very good technique, good quality of your recording. Congratulazioni.

  • i know i wouldn't be able to play this, BUT this doesnt sound fucking ANYTHING like hot for teacher(yes, im talking about the beginning)

  • READ THE INFO ON THE RIGHT! It says:"somewhat vague rendition of Hot For Teacher. " Geeez ! Haven't you ever heard the expressions: inspired by... or similar to... or personal interpretation of... or a nod to... or...well I hope you get the message?

  • im not fucking retarded, i know what "vague rendition" means. and this ear raping shit, is anything but even a "vague rendition" of a true masterpiece by alex van halen

  • Don't like it? Fine. Nobody forced you to watch ya know? Just go listen to the CD and don't bother me anymore...Constructive criticism my ass.

  • shut up u fuckin tool. Learn how to read, its a VAGUE rendition. It's meant to be different. Don't post shit until u learn how to understand basic english

  • Dude instead of posting a caveat/description for these idiots you should just put a picture of a big hairy nutsack in the begining followed by the words "Lick these and then eat my asshole" This tom groove was cool and the recording sounds good. I shall subscribe

  • nice copy of Neil Pearts solo. Anatomy of a drum solo

  • it doesnt sound like hot for teacher ON THE FIRST 18 SECONDS

  • pinstripes sound freaking great dude!! nice solo!!

  • Wow this is great !

  • Awesome! I wish I could play like that!

  • great...i like this solo....its great!!!!

  • It sounds so good with the roto toms incorperated with it

  • I would love to add some rotos to my set. Hey, to help spice things up a notch, add a 1/4 note hi-hat in there and syncopate to your double kick when needed, haha! Nice work

  • hi! grats for you musicale taste...it's a gorgeus tom groove! Do you use pinstripe on both side of your toms? I like that fat sound!

  • Thanks! Pinstripe on top, Embassador 1 ply head on bottom. The bottom head is tuned tight and the top one loose.

  • how much did those roto toms set you back i would like to add some on my set

  • Bought mine used, paid about $70 if I remember.

You can buy brand new ones for about $120, shop around on the Net.

  • dude you are an insane nut ive just started drumming and just entered my first show with my friends in a small club i admire this solo like crazy man i hope to be s good as you one day

  • Thanks! Anyone who enjoys playing drums, and has a minimal amount of natural talent, coupled with many hours of practice and dedication to the craft, will inevitably be able to do the same things I do. Probably even better! The key is to keep having fun doing it. So enjoy yourself!

  • Thats fucking awsome man, i closed my eyes in some parts and it felt like 3 drummers at the same time

  • Wow man. You're actually getting better day after day. I can't believe you didn't have any drum lessons. Congratulations.

  • Hahaha some of this is based off Neil Peart's R30 drum solo video. AWESOME

  • Thanks! Yeah, Neil has always been a great source of inspiration for me over the years.

  • haha dude that solo after hot for teacher you did was such a catchy beat lol

  • Awesome! Just look at your profile and listing of your drum set. You forgot to mention the drum heads. What are they???

  • Thanks!

DRUM HEADS: Remo CS Controlled Sound on Rototoms, Remo Pinstripe on toms, Evans EQ1 Batter and EQ3 Resonant on bass drum, Evans Genera G1 Coated on snares. All single ply Remo Ambassador on bottom of toms and snares.

Thanks for pointing out this missing info on my channel page. It has been added now.
