As stupid as it may seem, I don't see that much relation between this song and 1984. 1984 is basically about Big Brother and the Party, about how Stalinism hurt the Russian people. In my opinion here, Radiohead deplores the sad story of Russia, how they were at first slaves of the tsarism, then how they couldn't stand it anymore and they finally begun to slowly kill themeselves, by the revolution and all the things that comes later. This song is more related to Animal Farm than to 1984 to me.
