On the NES the Tanooki was non-standard and rare item but on 3DS it is a standard and common item so it lose's it's value the NES version had.

@SPS148669 But the standard Tanooki Suit on the 3DS doesn't let you turn into stone. It's basically like having the leaf - the suit is just a better visual representation. There is a rarer version of the leaf, however, that's blue and allows you to transform into a statue.

Did you know that you can kill bowser with a hammer? Once i got all the way through his castle with one of those hammer throwing black shell powerups. I hit him in the air (you have to hit him in the air) with it and killed him in about 10 seconds and got 100 points XD. Those hammers can kill ANYTHING!!!!! (annoying angry sun, ghosts, spiky shells, skeleton turtles, etc)

I loved the Tanooki Suit in this game. BAck in 1990 the graphics were breathtaking and it blew me away when I first saw this ending. Now it looks kinda lame, but the game play is as good as ever. The Bowser in the Super Mario Brothers Wii at the end is incredible looking compared to this, but in 20 years from now it too will probably look flat. Botom line is that the gameplay is what counts 100% and Mario Brothers 3 still delivers as good as the day it was released in 1990
