epic movie....epic song....brings me to the edge of tears every time I hear it....it was put to perfect use in darjeeling limited...a life sustaining song!!
This song makes me miss Indian train journeys. Success! Gotta run to the nearest grocer and grab some Uncle Chipps, Limca and apple-flavored aloe vera beverage.
amazing. I love how a recurring theme in Anderson movies is desperate, dysfunctional people (the state of people in general?) who mean well and eventually redeem themselves.
almost the entire video is of 4 clipsof slowmo shots, and then you used 3 second clips from 5 other scenes. this looks like a silent movie dude. there's like no relation to the story of the movie at all.
almost the entire video is of four clipsof slowmo shots, and then you used 3 second clips from 5 other scenes. this looks like a silent movie dude. there's like no relation to the story of the movie at all.
Hahaha. Second best part of the movie here, when Jason Schwartzman mistakenly throws the flowers. By the way, the best part is when Adrian Brody does that old man Jewish Dance on top of the mountin when the train breaks down.
wes anderson is amazing it dosnt matter that his movies are not super big box office hits because he makes films that matter to him and can connect with people that are open to them its a beautiful film.
The fact that he doesnt make super block busters makes me like and appreciate his work even more. From Bottle Rocket, Rushmore, Steve Zissou and Royal Tennenbaums further deepens his mark on the film industry. I love his style and way of telling small, great, and thoughtful films while blending in a little stop motion animation from time to time. Example, the sugar crabs. Haha Wes and his cinematographer Robert Yeoman are masters.
whatever film he makes next, i hope its in the same style like his previous films. They are so refreshing, unconventional hollywood films that has a european mood to it. lets hope he gets the funding.
I also loved "The Royal Tenenbaum's". I too like his "non typical Hollywood" movies. They're funny and quirky and you can't tell what will happen next. I love to watch Adrien Brody's face in the scene where Owen Wilson is unwrapping his bandages. The 3 brothers are all standing before a mirror watching him. Adrien's facial expressions are priceless!
i liked the RT & the Life aquatic of steve zisso. His films offer a new fresh angle & they are not pretentious. Actually, the 3 of them & their expressions were priceless, especially at the end with anjelica huston in their silent moment, it was so beautiful one could cry. owen wilson did have the strangest lines out of the 3.
Yes, Owen Wilson was definitely the most affected by their mother's rejection. I always enjoy Angelica's performances. I haven't seen the Life Aquatic. Is it good?
I only watched it once but yes, it is good. Not as good perhaps as the darjeeling limited but still nice to see. To give you an idea, im not a bill murray fan & i enjoyed it!!. I really want to see it again.
Have you ever seen "The Razor's Edge" with Bill Murray? I believe it was written by Somerset Maugham and it's a very good philosophical movie about life, how it should be lived, what is of true value, etc. Sounds heavy but it's done in an intrieging way.
Life Aquatic is a great piece of work. Your going to love Bill Murray's quirky sarcasm and Willem Defoe's self righteousness mixed in with nautical comedy. lol He makes me laugh just thinking about his character.
One touching moment that almost always brings me to tears is the sub scene in Life Aquatic, where Bill Murray's character says, " I wonder if he remembers me.", then gets teary eyed but his friends and colleagues put their hands on his shoulders as if saying, "You matter to us."
which proves that critics are pompous idiots most of the time & that one should see the cast & the director, get to know whats the story about & decide for himself.
This was a great tribute. It kept with the story, and the mood--something that can be quite difficult. NearNothing, you should really consider a career in film editing. Great job.
This was a great movie. I enjoyed every bit of it. It's one of those movies that is full of 2nd meanings and wimzy tidbits, plus it has an original story-line.
I love this film, and song. When the brothers toss their luggage away at the end it is a message that if we carry our baggage for too long we will be doomed to make the same mistakes our parents have made.
I have a feeling that Wes Anderson chose to play three songs from the Kinks in this movie for a reason. Two band members of the Kinks, Ray and Dave Davies, were brothers, and offstage, the two of them conflicted a lot. They even got in a fight during one of their performances. Anyways, the fact that Ray and Dave did not get along relates to this movie, for the brothers in this movie fought quite frequently as well. Maybe I'm wrong, but I personally think that's why Wes used Kinks music.
They're also from the same album, and are badass. This time Tomorrow is great for that scene... I don't I've ever seen a song that fit so well with what was on screen.
I had not really thought about that, NodakDN, but I agree with you. I don't listen to the Kinks a lot anymore, but hearing those songs again while watching this movie I was honestly surprised at how great they still sound. They were somehow just right for the film, too. I think you figured out at least part of the reason why.

Song is good, movie is horrible. How can one make amovie entirely in India yet convey an aura having no understanding or relationship with India? How did he spend his time in India? He seems to have soaked up nothing, and display a profound lack of artistic dialogue with the nation (I suppose to him background props) in whihc his decidedly (and typically) privileged western characters act out their bourgeois nothings.

The movie has "0" engagement though. India is a prop to this director. I like his work, but this shows very clearly his limits. He is unable to transcend.
I think you didn't understand the movie. It's not about India, but about the characters (just like any other movie of Wes Anderson). Inacdcwetrust hits the nail: India was just a place and didn't affect the plot. It could've happened in Spain for example, or China. If you like his work, than why didn't you see it in The Life Aquatic or Rushmore?
Favorite part is in the very beginning, when Bill Murray gets cut off and you dont see him for the rest of the entire movie except that scene with all these random people on the train.
I love this movie. Strangely it's not for the plot.
I love it because Wes Anderson's stamp on it. The slo-mo stuff is amazing, especially in the village on their way too the funeral. That is such an epic couple of frames. Oh, and not to mention the soundtrack. Who doesn't love the kinks?
