  • nature friendly bike!

  • a very classy bike :)

  • If anyone would like raw bamboo to make their own bicycles, or scaffolding, or what not, contact me as I have some (plenty) native NJ Bamboo growing in my friends backyard...

I was thinking of building one for a few years now, but I still haven't started...

  • painful music. nice bike but pedals would help.

  • They disgraced this bike with Dura-Ace... how unfortunate

  • Are the spokes bamboo too???

  • I still think Aluminum frame or carbon frame are better, but a BAMBOO.....oh my god,lol

  • Now there bloody beautiful

  • I saw this guy on Daily planet...I want one!

  • you'ed think that they were like the 1st bikes made because thing in the past were made of like wood n stuff!

  • for completeness, maybe they should start making trees out of all the aluminium & carbon fibre this would save

  • So why is are the gears and derailer not bamboo?!?

  • Queen? Are you serious? Sad part is Freddy Mercury got paid for making that song. Probably meant to sing, "my seatless bicycle."

  • Really! a professional singer/songwriter getting paid for singing/songwriting????

  • douche.

  • that is so nice i bet its expensive chris king headset and carbon lugged

  • Thats the thing it's not carbon lugged, that is hemp. And you are correct, ungodly expensive, but it's because Calfee grows all his own bamboo and hand makes the frames not because of the headset.

  • someone in my clubs got one with the hemp lugs it looks so nice really nicely finished. He's thinking about getting wooden wheels! madness

  • I read in the Daily Mail they are being sold for £3,000. Five have been sold so far. They are being sold in the Eco Age shop owned by actor Colin Firth, his wife Livia Giuggioli, and her brother Nicola.

  • I just heard on NPR (US affiliate of the BBC) that people over here are ordering them at $500.00 - - ~ L300.00.

  • If a bamboo bicycle can be made as good looking and functional as normal bike, why is it not widespread? The bamboo is much cheaper than steel/alluminium/cromalloy/titanium, no?

  • not easy to regulate size, there are no truly straight bamboo poles, ect.

  • thats why each one is custom made

  • RoadEasyGentleman, damn good point there.

Bamboo bicycles are definately not a new thing!

  • A Belgian manufacturer is now making bikes from 'FLAX'. It's mixed with 20% carbon fibres and laid up like regular carbon. All reports are that it's better than 100% carbon fibre.

It's great to see natural products in hi-tech applications.

    Calfee is a legend

  • There is a bamboo bike in the Henry Ford Museum (dearborn Michigan) along with other great cycles. If you are there don't miss em.

  • is it stiff?????????????

  • are the front forks bamboo too?

  • The fork is not bamboo. It's made of carbon fiber. The frame is made of bamboo.

  • Part/2 I would love to donate my time to such a "Green" cause. you can reply back for my info on my photography services if you like. If not I just wanted to say I think your doing a fantastic thing in leading the way to "Green" as well as a defining your own creativity.

  • Wow soo cool! I just watched the guys from the "Science Channel" Taco your rear wheel. It was pretty cool to watch you on the show and then find out your in my very own backyard! I will maybe have to stop by sometime. I think its great that you are making these bikes frames. Showing the world about the products that can be made with hemp and bamboo. Let me know if you ever need any professional photography done on your products or what not. It would be a pleasure to work with you guys.

  • bambooo. ur kill???????

  • The frame will cost a little:

    Bamboo Pro or Tri $2,695

    Bamboo Custom $3,195

  • omg! i have to have one!!!!!!

  • gees guys, where have you been? Often the material of choice in 3rd world countries where it's plentiful and often used for many other applications like scafolding, houses, cages, etc. Bamboo bikes have been around over 100 years. Calfee just uses carbon fibre to join the bamboo. Since each piece of bamboo grows on it's own, trying to assign specific properties to bamboo in general won't be very accurate. Each bike will ride differently.

  • i got to meat the owner of the company that makes those bamboo bicycles

  • Damn, is it wood?

  • As the title states... this bicycle is genuine bamboo! Crazy, huh? Craig Calfee said that bamboo dampens vibrations better than carbon fiber which reduces biker fatigue.

  • Wow, that's weird, so Thanx for the info, but you consider that the Calfee said has scientifically proof?

  • I attended a lecture by Craig Calfee (which is where I took the film footage of the bike). Mr. Calfee talked about all of the research that he was doing regarding bamboo and carbon fiber. Mr. Calfee is a bike designer and builder, so I do look at him as a person who knows what he's talking about.

Mr. Calfee also commented, during his lecture, that bamboo is slightly heavier than carbon fiber... so that is a downside.

  • Yes, you are right, I saw all the info in his website, and he's in bussiness a long time ago, so, still weird the idea of a bamboo frame!!!
