arnold aint that great of a actor? He is not only a great actor but also is in my opinion, the greatest action hero of our past decades. He makes commando watchable, he makes kindergarden cop look great and don't forget about countless inspirations in him and his great acting in terminator..
I dont deny his accomplishments, but if we are talking about pure acting talent, Arnold is not as good as Ferrell, but he is entertaining and is great as the Terminator. And yes, certain roles in a remake would not be the same if they are played by a different actor, even if that said actor is a generally a better actor than the original. Acting is not only about shooting and spewing one-liners( though i love Arnie doing that) - Collin is a better actor than Arnie generally.

And presumably they attempt to cash in with the remake option. Charlie & the Chocolate Factory is different; both were adaptations of the same original work.

This film has a very special place in my heart, it was an adventure as a child and still to this day is bloody love it, I'm not to bothered about a remake though. While the character choices are rather terrible I can't wait to see it re imagined, it will be very interesting to say the least.
I always thought this had a great story line, I think with less 80/90's cheesiness it could be an even more epic film. Different though. Noone can replace Arnie.
@galliumguy74 The beginning definitely is. I believe Basil Poledouris, who wrote the score for Conan, and Verhoeven's Robocop, was supposed to score this too. Jerry Goldsmith might have made the similarity intentionally. Or Verhoeven ordered him to make the theme sound like "Anvil of Crom"

@SolRosenberg84 There is nothing wrong with remakes in principle so long as the filmmakers' goal is to create something original rather than imitate the first movie. In case you have forgotten, Total Recall was a work of literature before it was film. It may just end up being a different adaptation of Phil Dick's work and not a rip off of the Verhoeven movie.

However, since it originated from a story, I think it is only fair to see how someone else converts it to the big screen before passing final judgment. @Jacobnearyou I dunno I personally think avatar was a pretty good film (if you can get past all the enviromental preachyness). Also to answer your question: The Hurt Locker.
p.s I'm quite aware that the hurt locker was more or less a dumping ground for all the academy awards that nobody wanted to give to avatar but, I think it would have earned them anyway.

@SolRosenberg84 There is nothing wrong with remakes in principle so long as the filmmakers' goal is to create something original rather than imitate the first movie. In case you have forgotten, Total Recall was a work of literature before it was film. It may just end up being a different adaptation of Phil Dick's work and not a rip off of the Verhoeven movie.

@TripleHoo I know where you're coming from: I love this film too! However, since it originated from a story, I think it is only fair to see how someone else converts it to the big screen before passing final judgment. If the 1990 film would have been based on an original script and not on a piece of literature, I would have been pounding on it too ;-) That said, I will not be actively looking for the remake; it will have to find its way to ME :-P
We'll always have this one to enjoy! :-)

wait i take that back predator!, this, and conan was arnolds tied "2nd" best movies! (just look at how BAD THE 2010 effort was for predator.. no 1 else could have played that role! but all these are tied for 2nd BEST. His first undoubtably hands down terminator 1 & 2=two of the best movies ever made!. I dunno how arnolds accent got him to stardom they would have told him today "the man can't even properly read the lines and he's playing an american! i can't wokr with this!" but he did LOL
