A big fire fight and many dead and wounded North Koreans soldiers. One South Korean solder was killed and one American was wounded. Oh by the way the defector made it!

It's the other DPRK soldier's duty to pull him back, they also blow whistles for assistance. It happened once when I was stationed there and they pulled the defector back and beat the unholy snot out of him dragging him away. Very rare, the front line guard are little more than programmed machines.

Notice how the guards are arranged. The North Koreas face eachother and one looks toward the North, a position that would stop anyone trying to cross over to the south. The South are arranged in such a fashion as to watch the Norths movements and catch defectors coming from the North.

@ShadowValentine Hi there. There are LOTS of tours of the DMZ - however - if you want the best tour (the one we took) then you need to take the USO tour. The USO tour is the ONLY tour that takes you right to the border where you walk into the building and can step over the border. Terrible tour guide! I served at JSA, and was a tour guide for 6 months. This kid knows NOTHING about his job vaguely answering questions asked by the groupd... North Korea DOES have internet, but only a select few may use it, and it is regulated by their government... What is a mortar round? A mortar is an indirect fire weapon, that fires shells at low velocities, short ranges, & high-arcing trajectories, in support of infantry troops. Why does that soldier not know this!?

I have had North Koreans try to give me things, in trade for things from the South... they love US cigarettes & sunglasses, for example... I have also had one try to reach across and shake my hand... there are spots up in the woods where there are no cameras. I never traded, and never let them touch me. I did draw on one, and he stepped back, and no report was made. I don't trust those brain washed Commies; they only let the most trusted in this area, as it's their best chance to defect!
