He´s the reason I am a Canucks-fan today! Love his skill with the stick and his speed..
@vancouverispathetic : Could not agree more.... Pretty much every NHL jersey looked better in the 90:s.. The new green/blue doesn´t look bad but it would be awesome to see the classic black/wellow/white again!
@zonkedforlife2 Quinn treated a lot of players like shit there poster. He even fucked up us not getting Gretzky to sign here in 94 when Gretzky wanted to come here and centre a line with Bure and Mogilny. He let Cliff Ronning go for fuck all too,not even a draft pick,go figure. Heard through a accurate source that Pavel and Gino both had cocaine addiction problems that were never publicly made.
@zonkedforlife2 He was not a good people person poster, you hit the nail on the head. Heard through the grapevine that Gino got Bure hooked on cocaine and they were two big coke heads. It was never mentioned to the media,it was kept top secret. Quinn stated regarding Gretzky possibly signing here in 94 that 'he didn't want someone bigger than him running the team"! What a total bonehead move that was. Even Tony Gallagher called Canuck management "Dorca Bay" for blowing that opportunity!
Bure was so much fun to watch. Easily the best the Canucks have ever had. I also prefer those old uniforms. Bring them back and ditch the ugly blue and green combination.
@summerprince2010 I respectfully disagree, Bure had a very different skill set than either Sedin + it was a different game so to speak back then so it's hard to compare who's 'better' but IMO if it came down to pure raw talent than I'd say Bure hands down......very tough call though...
@str8rippon Too bad team managers didn't like him. His first two years contract was 500 000 USD per year (52% taxes). He was a super star after first year. And team managers didn't want to increase his payments. Anyone would dislike Canucks.
When he was certain to be traded from Vancouver, they showed a clip of his last 50 goal season on BCTV (Global). Does anyone know where to find this footage?
Yeah Bure was a great player but he wasn't a team player and on those solo attempts he didnt think of the play which did cost the Canucks and every team Bure played on that's why he never won a Stanley Cup.
@GeorgeLCostanza He had became far less selfish as his career went on. And why wouldn't he pass it off, after all, every player on the team was trying to get it to him anyways so he knew he would get it back.
@ironmaidenforlife123 haha yeah I like am totally opposite right now, now learning how he left city, understand why he isnt being honoured.....I honestly can't say who the best player in Canucks history is....do we base it on scoring or awards? In my opinion, Sedins are going to go down as the best canuck players ever.
@RE4713 Lol yeah, the Sedins are going to do great thing for Van City, but I think you are overlooking the great Trevor Linden. By far the best Canuck in history, not for his goal scoring abilities, but for how he played, his gentlemanly conduct, and most important of all, his leadership. Fuck Naslund, he was not a leader, Linden should have retired as Captain, but they were too busy being dazzled by Nazzy.
@ironmaidenforlife123 yes that is true too...without him, there wud be no 94' cup run...his leadership and how he played the game was impeccable! And I agree! Linden should have retired as Captain...
All of the exciting hockey players retire early due to injury. Bobby Orr and Bure are 2 prime examples. Orr wouldve broke every record if he wasn't so reckless, same with pavel. Gretzky came in the right place at the right time. If Bure came in 1980 with the oilers, Bure would outscored Gretzky at least in the goals department.
ya gretzky did have the best stats of all-time, was he the best goal scorer? probably not (mike bossy) was he the best overall player? maybe but Mario is right there if not better. Pavel Bure was without a doubt the most exciting player to play the game by far. I'm not sure if your from Vancouver or have ever seen bure play live but I'm born and raised in van and it was insane to see 15000 fans stand up when bure touched the puck. it is something that I don't I'll see for a long tim
in his rookie season he might have been the fastest player in the NHL. When he put on muscle in seasons 2 and 3 he slowed down a lot but was still very fast. In his rookie season he was unearthly fast
@DBlockn05 Thats a bit much. He had 110 pts as his highest season ever. Gretzky did 215pts one year and over 200 pts 4 times and was a more well rounded team oriented player while he was at it. I dont recall Bure being out on the PK too often lol. you could argue for Lemieux at his best but Bure wasnt close.
@turfturbo Your missing one important stat. Bure has the highest points per game average of all time! If he stayed healthy he would have many records!
@pitchingwedge1 You pulling these "stats" out of your butt? unfortunately for you all Stats are readily available. Bure has no points per game record and isnt even close. Single season record : Bure 1.32 points per game, Gretzky 2.68 points per game. Career record: Bure 1.109 points per game, Gretzky 1.92 points per game. Theres plenty of places on the web to check those stats.
NHL was too dirty fo him...The Cunuckleheads didnt protect him. Wrong timing...If he stayed in Russia he would be their Wayne Gretzky, scoring records and all.
if it wasnt for all the knee problems he would have been statistically one of te best players ever no doubt. he did alot for the canucks and alot for this city, he's still one of the best players ever no doubt
Ovechkin is simple and nothing compare to Bure. Bure was smart and intelligent player with great technique and unbelievable speed. Ovechkin can just stupidly shot. That all about him.
Ovechkin is simple and nothing compare to Bure. Bure was smart and intelligent player with great technique and unbelievable speed. Ovechkin can just stupidly shot. That all about him.
as far as players in their prime. bure has too be one of the best EVER. sadly his career was cut short so he will never be put up there with the all time greats.
Don't worry canuck fans, You'll see another dynamic, fast as hell goal scoring Right Winger again playing in the North West Division. He's getting drafted 1st overall this summer and You'll enjoy him lighting up the NW for years.......hint!, hint! ;)
Bure reminds me of Ove sometimes, very skilled, very dominating. Not not as much of puck hog as Ovechkin, Ove motto "give me the puck" Bure motto "give me the puck if it is the best chance to get a goal". Nucks are doing great right now. Henric with most points overall, #2 in power rankings, that does not really mean much though. Go Canucks.
look at ducan keith skate .. hes a dman but still alot of resemblance to pavel i know id watch him every friday night in penticton as a panther coast to coast man wow
Best advice I ever heard was from Alexei Kovalev speaking to the camera. He was asked what he did to become such a great stickhandler. He said something like: "You just have to pick up a puck and do whatever crosses your mind. Someday, you will be able to do it."
It is not much about skills as much as about creativity; these guys simply see an opening you can you too see if you lift your head. The difference is that they will do something unexpected to get there.
Even if it seems that your idea must be rated as a top five contender of the worst ideas, it migth actually work.
I tried many stupid dekes and I am not any near to be a skillful player. But, they almost all worked. From using the Lacross move to fake a dmen to deking through couple guys by playing hacky with the puck; I have even flipped the puck like a pancake to deke the first guy and continued with the puck on my blade.
Sounds insaly stupid and easy to counter, but can you expect that?
These guys do things people don't think they will do; things they don't even consider. It's not about playign the greatest and most complex deke, it's about doing the one they will not see coming.
The moral of the story: If you don't try, you have 100% chance of failure.
He was a great player, but he was an ass in real life. I was about 12 years old at the time asking for his autograph and he told me to F off. Ever since then I hated him. Linden was a way better Canuck than Pavel!
The point is that Europe has much better skaters than Northern America (including Canada), Europe has a very fastest players such as legend Pavel Bure, now Alex Ovechkin, Slovak Marian Gaborik is very fast, even though Canada has no very fastest players have talent but turn to Technology, Sidney Crosby (although I do not like him) because he is the best center throughout the NHL, but a Russian player is an exception, Pavel Datsyuk think is second best center NHL,
that is only .0009% of the canadian player population.
You may want to tone down the ignorance and realize that both areas have great skaters. Having played with European players before i can agree they are great. But having seen how good Canadian players are i can also argue your point.
he is still the best skater to ever lace them up (coffey).
next time chose your words better instead of saying he is not much better then them.
skating has to do with power, speed, and being smooth. that is what coffey was. gaborik does not look that smooth to me when he skates. bure does but he still was not a better skater then coffey.
1. Sergei Fedorov, Ana 111 2. S. Niedermayer, NJ 66 3. Mike Modano, Dal 58 4. Marian Gaborik, Min 31 5. A. Mogilny, Tor 23 6. Pavel Bure, NYR 19 7. Paul Kariya, Col 10 8. Martin St-Louis, TB 9 9. Teemu Selanne, Col 8 10. Todd Marchant, Clb 8 that was a while ago (after coffey retired). even when it comes to skaters (north america, europe).
Funny how all the fans believe Sydney Crosby to be the best Center or one of the best in the league. although good he isn't. A survey were all the nhl skaters (or approximately half) had to vote for the numbr one player. Number one was Ovechkin (almost half the votes). Number two was ether lindstrom or datsyuk i forget then malkin and all the way in 8th with 1.9% of votes..was Sydney crosby.
If it wasn't for his knee injury his career wouldn't have been cut so short. If he played as many games as some of the greats he would be Top 10 best ever my opinion.
Without a doubt...without a doubt. Still he managed to score over 400 goals, man, I await another great player with hands and speed like him to appear, a pure goal score.
Pavel Bure was just so fast its unbelievble. Only the good players can make moves while moving their feet hard. Ovechkin, Crosby, Bure, Lemieux can all skate their hardest while dangling well and most nhl players can barely do one of them. Bure would be all time scorer if he could finish I must add
Alex Burrows will do a lot more for us than Pavel. No 14 is well-rounded player. Team guy. All the things that Pavel wasn't. (amd Burrows= just as fast)
BUT:
How come Bure sat in California and had only one visit from Canucks brass in 6 months?? HUH?? Quinn was dumb. Nice guy, but dumb as a post
i agree.. too bad to- i dont think he realized how good he had it here. great players in vancouver are like rock stars here- i guess though at that time with no cap teams like the rangers were more attractive with their massive pay. i was 8 when he was playin here, was never more excited watching a player-i get the same feeling watching sidney now. i dont mind if we dont win a cup as long as we play exciting offencive hockey, we lost that last year- im glad wer on our way back to that
THis still puzzles me to this day. I think burke and Quinn said/did somethings that peed him off. Rumour has it that Messier 'touched' him and Gino slammed Messier into the wall. Later; Gino = gone, Mess here to make the mess he made
Also, see my earlier post about when Bure first got here.
Finally, remember that agents can cause players to do bizarre things
The comparison to Pavel Datsyuk is completely off base, because Datsyuk is a Selke candidate every year. Pavel was never mistaken for a checker. I actually remember him being criticized for cheating up the ice waiting for a breakaway pass. No, Pavel Bure didn't have any defensive instincts in his body. Nor was he a great passer. What he had was the unsurpassed ability to coordinate his hands with his lightning speed. Nobody, except for maybe Ovechkin, today can do what he did.
few years ago, two parents went out for dinner. A few hours later, the babysitter was calling to ask if she could cover up the clown statue in the kids' room, the father said,"Take the kids and get out of the house. We'll call the police, we don't have a clown statue." The "clown statue" is really a killer that escaped from jail. If you don't post this letter on to 10 videos tonight, the clown will be in your bed at 3:00 am with a chainsaw in his hand(SORRY BOUT SPAM THIS REALLY FREAKS ME)

WalkSeeknDestroySell 2 years ago
those players are both players that played in the time when there were no europeons allowed
washingtoncapitalsss 2 years ago
wrong. Coffey played when Euros were around. He is still considered the best skater ever. shows how little you know.
WalkSeeknDestroySell 2 years ago
well not orr and coffey isnt much better than players like gaborik and bure
washingtoncapitalsss 2 years ago
LMAO you are a complete moron. He is a hall of famer. where is gaborik? he scored i believe more goals then gaborik has and coffey was a defencemen.
stop thinking like a moron.
coffey and orr are two of the best. Orr being the best player ever.
and technically orr did play against euros in the canada cup, and against stan mikita.
WalkSeeknDestroySell 2 years ago
i thought we were talking about skaters wtf are you talking about best players for
washingtoncapitalsss 2 years ago
he is still the best skater to ever lace them up (coffey).
next time chose your words better instead of saying he is not much better then them.
skating has to do with power, speed, and being smooth. that is what coffey was. gaborik does not look that smooth to me when he skates. bure does but he still was not a better skater then coffey.
WalkSeeknDestroySell 2 years ago
lets continue to argue but make sure you know what you are talking about.
i love the russian rocket. but any idiot who says coffey was not much better then players like gaborik and bure is a complete and utter moron.
coffey is probably the second best offensive defencemen only behind orr.
WalkSeeknDestroySell 2 years ago
i though we were talkin about skaters wtf are you talkin about best players for
washingtoncapitalsss 2 years ago
WalkSeeknDestroySell 2 years ago
thats a pretty good list but i think gaborik is the best noone relizes because hes always injured
washingtoncapitalsss 2 years ago
gaborik is the fastest (right now, cogliano is faster though)
over all best skater ever is coffey. fastest ever mike gartner, best acceleration, pavel bure.
WalkSeeknDestroySell 2 years ago
its pretty close hard to say hell we've never even seen the original "rocket"
washingtoncapitalsss 2 years ago
ive seen bure and coffey play. no doubt bure was a speedy bastard haha. but coffey was just so smooth man.
either way its fun to watch.
WalkSeeknDestroySell 2 years ago
and yet canada has produced the BEST goalies in the game?

Funny how all the fans believe Sydney Crosby to be the best Center or one of the best in the league. although good he isn't. A survey were all the nhl skaters (or approximately half) had to vote for the numbr one player. Number one was Ovechkin (almost half the votes). Number two was ether lindstrom or datsyuk i forget then malkin and all the way in 8th with 1.9% of votes..was Sydney crosby.
RockNow68 2 years ago
whos malkin? heres the order for centers
1.malkin
2.datsyuk
3.crosby

don't really like the Canucks but with all due respect to Bure, he should be in the Hockey Hall of Fame
Oilblood87 2 years ago 3
he was amazing to watch
jflomann 2 years ago
he was like the Russian Wayne Gretzky
Oilblood87 2 years ago
Canucks should retire his #10. He was their first real superstar, and their most exciting player by far. They'll never have anyone else like him.
bgabriel28 2 years ago 4
Yes they should retire his #. Even tho he wasn't here long and he had a short NHL career he was one of the most exciting in the NHL of that time.
Soccer559 2 years ago
He would of been the best of all time most goals for sure. Gretzky said he could of been the best of all time.
luckyceltic69 2 years ago
i bet if it wasn't for the Knee injury he would have been one of the best !

how Pavel hasn't been included in the Hall of Fame yet is beyond me.

Uh, excuse me, gotta go.
Wow.
americanaccents 2 years ago
For everyone comparing ovechkin to bure don't, bure rocked in the league when it was more defensive minded now the league is more offensive minded
swassking 2 years ago 4
If it wasn't for his knee injury his career wouldn't have been cut so short. If he played as many games as some of the greats he would be Top 10 best ever my opinion.
userofahomosite 2 years ago 2
Without a doubt...without a doubt. Still he managed to score over 400 goals, man, I await another great player with hands and speed like him to appear, a pure goal score.

bure was awesome in his prime. but hands down trevor linden best canuck of all time.

FinalDestinati0n 2 years ago
Pavel Bure was just so fast its unbelievble. Only the good players can make moves while moving their feet hard. Ovechkin, Crosby, Bure, Lemieux can all skate their hardest while dangling well and most nhl players can barely do one of them. Bure would be all time scorer if he could finish I must add
ymember3 2 years ago 2
I miss pavel bure -.-

kinda funny lookin' at Pavel wearing the number #96
TAG037 2 years ago
yeah, i heard it was because Esa Tikkanen wore 10 and when he joined he got it because of his senority.
96 is a cool number though, id wear that Bure jersey for reals, its rare too!

Ovechkin is a better player than Pavel was but IMO I think Pavel scored prettier goals.
Queegzzz 2 years ago
Alex Burrows will do a lot more for us than Pavel. No 14 is well-rounded player. Team guy. All the things that Pavel wasn't. (amd Burrows= just as fast)
BUT:
How come Bure sat in California and had only one visit from Canucks brass in 6 months?? HUH?? Quinn was dumb. Nice guy, but dumb as a post
sparwood8 2 years ago
I completely agree with you about Burrows, I hope Vancouver finds more players like him
kingoftheuniverse14 2 years ago
Where are all those jerks who were screaming to have our scouts fired? could be that Quinn, Burke, Nonis never listened to them (scouts)
We are growing our own through the draft and player development. thank god Gillis didn't trade away our picks for 09
sparwood8 2 years ago
When he bailed on the team, I took a sudden dislike to him. sorry, bure fans.
I will agree that he was fun to watch. Ovechkin but 2 sizes smaller., Ovech is better w/o the puck, though.
Defence can be taught, but offence skill is a gift
sparwood8 2 years ago
That was by far my favorite canuck jersey,
Gah! i miss it.
Broxty 2 years ago 2
yeah he was great but he turned his back on the vancouver canucks because he got too cocky for his own good
Amrinder67 2 years ago 3
i agree.. too bad to- i dont think he realized how good he had it here. great players in vancouver are like rock stars here- i guess though at that time with no cap teams like the rangers were more attractive with their massive pay. i was 8 when he was playin here, was never more excited watching a player-i get the same feeling watching sidney now. i dont mind if we dont win a cup as long as we play exciting offencive hockey, we lost that last year- im glad wer on our way back to that

Finally, remember that agents can cause players to do bizarre things
sparwood8 2 years ago
The comparison to Pavel Datsyuk is completely off base, because Datsyuk is a Selke candidate every year. Pavel was never mistaken for a checker. I actually remember him being criticized for cheating up the ice waiting for a breakaway pass. No, Pavel Bure didn't have any defensive instincts in his body. Nor was he a great passer. What he had was the unsurpassed ability to coordinate his hands with his lightning speed. Nobody, except for maybe Ovechkin, today can do what he did.
surfer53 2 years ago
did bure score when he shot between the legs?

no he didn't

few years ago, two parents went out for dinner.
