@queiloroincontri I can agree with you to some extent but I believe the point that is meant to be made with that quotation is... Even if we're in a rough state due to outside circumstances beyond our control, we can still alleviate some of our psychological suffering by changing the way we perceive things such as how we're supposed to live. You can become content with the way things are and just deal with what is handed to you in a positive way instead of being negative about it.
@queiloroincontri I whole-heartedly agree with you because I have personally experienced what the state to which you refer. There definately need to be changes in society, and the problem certainly is not all in our head. But we do have choices on how to react and respond to the problems created for us by others.A good book to read is Viktor Frankl's 1946 book "Man's Search for Meaning." It gives a valid, yet different, perspective to reacting to the harsh realities around us.

It seems easy to say that ones problems are the result of other peoples thoughts and actions, but victimizing yourself only makes it easy to continue passing off responsibility for your own happiness and to remain stagnant in your life. @stzzla your comment just gave me an aha moment. Something is happening with me too and a lot of my friends. Apparently, most awakenings happen around 30+ year old. I'm 24 and I'm going through a transformation. This made me read a whole bunch of articles related and unrelated to spirituality (which I eventually found related somewhat) in the field of science, psychology, religion, history etc. When you mentioned about en mass awakening, it reminded me of one article from a near death experience
2/2 apparently this guy who experienced it asked the angels if there's going to be a world war 3, they said no God will not allow that, He loves the world. However, in the next 200 years, He wanted to limit man's freewill if there would be no change on how men live on earth. Apparently, men will strive more for wisdom than knowledge. There would be a lot of gardening. And absolutely everything men needed would be given if they pray for it. Pray for sun, for rain and if a brother's gone astray.

I feel for him. To be relaxed in yourself and in the world is a worthy goal. But I think the more seriously you try to be in tune with nature or what you think there is, the more ridiculous it kinda gets. You don't have to try to connect yourself to the world because you already are connected to what's around you whether you like it or not. The experience of flow/enlightenment ect, are fine, but to pursue them endlessly is not the most calming experience one can have. Breath in and breath out.

If so, where I live, it's together with Malay Muslims whom practise circumcising and while I agree there probably is a negative physical effect to that, I don't really see any psychological problems associated with that. You might be talking about something else though. And what I meant by poor standard of living was a less-advanced society like the less-urbanised parts of Africa where they have to work manually and live in an unclean environment.

He is not saying just the thoughts in your own head are the cause, but the collective of everyone and how their thoughts influence their interactions with everyone else. For example, you mention the poor. If we could change people mindsets from thinking "I need more money/wealth/power" to "I need to use my money/wealth/power to help others" then we are on the right track.

@queiloroincontri I can agree with you to some extent but I believe the point that is meant to be made with that quotation is... Even if we're in a rough state due to outside circumstances beyond our control, we can still alleviate some of our psychological suffering by changing the way we perceive things such as how we're supposed to live. You can become content with the way things are and just deal with what is handed to you in a positive way instead of being negative about it.

There definately need to be changes in society, and the problem certainly is not all in our head. But we do have choices on how to react and respond to the problems created for us by others.A good book to read is Viktor Frankl's 1946 book "Man's Search for Meaning." It gives a valid, yet different, perspective to reacting to the harsh realities around us.

All of this stuff is coinciding with a time when our planet is either dying or drastically changing. Birds falling from sky, bee's going extinct.
