I think both of them were still strung out at the time the vid was made...he made it simple beyond belief and repugnant as all hell because he really dislikes making vids except perhaps Where The Wild Roses Grow. if only i could remember,i had the nick cave dvd with all the songs and the bad seeds and him would do an intro for each song. But one thing i remember is that a few of the earlier videos are real low budget because at the time he was using heroine and used up the video money.

A friend of mine and I sang this for the Choir Festival at our highschool. Naturally, I sang as Nick Cave. We even made it as theatrical as the video, using a boat with hydraulics that would rock back and forth, and having black, plastic bags rolling across the stage like water. We were even able to turn off the lights, and use two spotlights, one behind us like the moon, and the other ahead of us so the people in the audience could see us.

It's always nice to get a standing ovation. =)
