It's not so much luck, but skill. When I play, and I usually have the chance to use the Magnum, you need a robo with good speed, and coupled with the Formula feet, you can do some really nice blitzkrieg attacks. My choice usually is:
Ray MkII
Magnum
Direct Bomb
Satellite Pod H
Formula Feet
It's a really good combo, and if executed properly, you can gain combos of 400+.

and feet designed to increase ground speed could beat that.
The problem with the Magnum is, like you said, you had to rely on a bit of luck, and you have to be close to your enemy. And that just doenst always work in my strategy, or will get you killed cause thats what the robo you're fighitng against wants.
I wish I had discovered just how powerful the magnum was before the nintendo hard Greybaum fights. Would have made that bitch Kindjal much easier to kill. Ugh.

i like dragon gun, cuz it makes good damage and keeps enemies from hitting you. Which is best when you run up to them which is the only way to shoot em with it....
use a really fast robo like Robin, then get the stun gun(doesn't matter what pod or bomb u have, but use formula legs)cuz when their down, u can still hit em^_^ does about 207 damage^_^PWNAGE!!!

go to the big room with boxes and there will be a lady being attacked by a G-Robo. Defeat and she will give you the presidents key. use it on the door to jacobs room, watch the cutscene, and then the door should be open.
for short range i think the knuckle gun is a little better, plus when i use knuckle gun i use wolfen because of the stealth.
when i normally play legally i use rayfall gun and winder bomb together for a pretty cool combo if done right and illegally i like to us AIRS because of offensive power and because he is gold colored:). i put illegally modified meteor storm on him and the gold military parts and not because they are gold i just like them.
For non-illegal i like the nano with the stun gun for short range, or for longer range, a stealth vanisher with the aferburner
For illeal i like the upgraded version of the meteor storm, the amun bomb, the phantom legs, the ground freezse pod, and either snipe (normally) or ray II dark
Oh yea, here is the easiert way to beat those amuns, use the knuckle gun with the metal bear (the one with the very high defense) if you do it at 50% loss, it is very easy

no it's not you... those "real life" levels are a pain in the arse to fight in because the camera angle is often screwed up...
and amun? if you guys actually bought some parts before going into underground they would've been a breeze: they never rebirth or budge, you can combo up to 300 easily without them downing to stop you... and strike vanishers can screw it up harder by stealth jumpig through them to use his own pods against it
Magnum doesn't even scratch the Amuns. I honestly had to use a 25% handicap for them to beat 'em, I tried everything too. Everyone else seemed like a pushover though, especially the doppleganger.

You're relying too much on chance, I think. Like, I think you're overestimating the range of your magnum, and it's leaving you open constantly. You shouldn't fire unless you absolutely know you're going to hit.

go to the big room with boxes and there will be a lady being attacked by a G-Robo. Defeat and she will give you the presidents key. use it on the door to jacobs room, watch the cutscene, and then the door should be open.

i recoomend using the magnum to down ur opponent then use a bomb and shoot the magnum again does nearly 300 dmg ^^and satalite pods will be useful
