There are a lot of responses talking about the war between America and terrorists and while this film uses that conflict as the background for the tension between the two main characters this is more a story about how the fear of evil can betray reason and create suspicion. The soldier is caught between the trust he has developed for his friend and the mounting suspicion sown by his superiors. The inherent irony only becomes complete once we realise that it really is only dates in the box.

Not at this moment. Hard to say as alliances often change quickly in the mid east. It is part of their culture to go with the winner or the strongest side. Westerners don't understand that. They don't understand that the guy will fight hard and even die as long as he feels his family is protected and he stands with the winning team. This short just shows how inherently hard this whole war is and how different our cultures are, but how we as human beings can quickly become friends.
The point is he may have been a baathist when Saddam was around and his brother in law may be AIF, but situations change. He may have been forced into the party to keep his family safe... or he may have been a hardliner looking to escape his past. His brother may have been a terrorist, or simply AIF, or Anti Iraqi Forces (meaning a gangster thug, or nationalist). We're fighting more than terrorists there - we are fighting mafia, nationalists & terrorists. Not all the same, but all dangerous.
Ah. I think him joining the party to keep his family would make sense. Maybe that's why he was telling Matt about Mohammed and how people wanted to kill him.

Excellent short. Well done and poignant. The people in the US have to understand what our troops, the troops of the Coalition, and many contractors already do. The people of the Middle East are deep heartfelt and honorable people. People that are running from their past and into our future. Hopefully we can continue to understand what we have in common over what we have that divides us. Great short film.
Awesome. Reminds me of the trailer for GREEN ZONE, the Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass movie. Really great short! Highly recommended. I want more filmmakers like this!
