@f25824 why? tradition, cult, religion, practical, flexibility of material? all? please can you be more specific why only Female goatskin, ty. Awesome drum
I like the ivory coast drums because of the ridge they have at the bottom of the bowl it makes it easier to keep both rings level and even. thats the key to having an even tone its also better to pull the skin after its completly dried for a couple of days pulling a wet skin is a waste of time and will not give you a major change in sound. i have a few drums for senegal ivrory, coast, & ghana a professional drum shell is made of soild dense wood, light woods are geared toward tourist .
Did you learn something about djembe?? Ivoirian??!!! Senegal has a lot better djembes than Ivory coast.Ivoirian djembes are similar to Ghanian,thereupon bad djembes and as you can see for tourists.Senegal also manufacture instruments for tourists,but they djembe culture is more extended.
yes i learn djembe ! rehead djembe is some of my professional activity and wen i rehead i see evrery litel think like the callity of rope and ring and how the wood is made on the top and inside
i dont say evrery djembe in senegal are bad some are really good but in occidantal market we often find malian djembe like kangaba , ivoirian in iroko ,guinean ,burkina, they are best without difficulte seach
I spent 12 hours in a puddle of sweat in my bathroom reskinning a djembe. Never again! It didn't even sound good. Pay the experts, whatever they charge, that's what I say - it's damned hard work. This clip doesn't show just how hard it is! Nice guy by the way, thanks.
can we use rabbit skin for a djembe ?

@Jetosek11593 FEMALE GOAT SKIN ONLY
DJkakashi 7 months ago
try to get a westafrican goatskin, without any holes in it.
when you buy a djembe look from the bottom side if there are holes or blessures in the skin.
the same whith the wood, sometimes it is broken and not handmade.
if a djembe sounds bad, find someone who can renew the tension of the ropes.
