  • I share Neals/Deans view points so much. . .My cynicism bugs people around me, I'm sure. Whatever, I guess, "Enjoy it"

  • Expansion of Sri Vishnu Buddha meditated under that same tree 1,000 year before Prince Siddartha.

1:41 Says the Swami Prabhupada... I had an old Bhagavad Gita As It Is with mention of Allen Ginsberg, years ago. Very rare. Ginsberg help Swami Prabhupada whenever he could.

  • Too bad these "prophets" or more like profits, couldn't live up to what they expected everyone else to live up to; their conscience. Alot different than conscious altered interpretations of reality. Materialists talking esoteric hogshit.

  • Allen Ginsburg was great, this I knew even before I understood back in the 60's, but I made a mistake thinking his signs were the way to make signs. Too much stuff to read in a moment.

  • i like the phrase "name hypnosis" (communism capitalism)

  • who is the girl sitting next to cassady?

  • Comment removed

  • 3:00 to 3:17 cassady looks like hes staring at god

  • "you gotta have a panoramic view of this thing."

  • I can't help but feel that almost everybody in these youtube comments are over-analysing this clip.

This is just two guys having a vague conversation about power and whatever. Sure, Ginsberg is pretty self-indulgent, but so what.

And yeah, maybe you can't see what's amazing about Neal Cassady, but it isn't like you knew the guy intimately, like Kerouac, who wrote about him, so why are you saying he isn't so great based on a short impersonal rambling conversation.

  • @Staticnz not only that but when people talk about him so musch(cassady) and his involvment in the beat writers it builds a sort of mythology around him which in turn creates a certain expectation of his character.

  • The 3 headed fish reminds me of the "Spaceman3" Triangle

  • Met Neal Cassady in the 60's at an Acid Test. Granted, I was messed up but Neal was close to dumber than a stump to talk to. Coulda been the drugs or just his brain fried.

  • Carlo Marx and Dean Moriarty don't live up to their legends.

  • nobody who wants to hear is willing to listen. i found this @ a good time in my life. thanks for the trip.

  • Ehh how could I miss it? thanks my friend for uploading this piece..it's a big '5' :)

  • Most writers had inspiration on various common lifre figures. We cannot judge them by they way they speak or the background they had ! These video is a important historical register of art, poetry, personas and personages. The myth of youth, nowadays, through the cinema, brought by figures like James Dean, always will live in the human set of archetypes.

  • You have to remember there was a sexual relationship between Allen and Neal with Neal playing the master to Allen's slave. Notice Neal has brought a fish along which has added to the tension which is heightened by his use of amphetamines. Neal was the sort of guy who'd turn up at a party, smoke everyone's weed, talk a lot of self obsessed nonsense and leave with some poor shmuck's wife. Only a shy loner like Kerouac would find someone like Cassady exotic.

  • Neal's actually laying down some gems..... truth...

'a war here a natural disaster there'......'the pentagon's running the country' .....uh so you might as well enjoy it....hes not 'pessimistic' as much as just reporting what is happening.....

    gotta see all sides.....etc

  • i think kramer based his character on neal...at about 5:40 he responds ''well, ya gotta..." in the exact way kramer enunciates it

  • When u post a comment, u oughta know the whole story. Read up on little Neil. The man cared...prolly too much. The western drawl is who he is. Let me guess...u live in Toronto, or Texas, or Indiana...a big city...the comments of individuals are invaluable...Neil, without doubt, was a genius...his history stunted him...but I can guarantee u...he did his best. He's smarter than me, u, or any prohet we could prophseletize (sp?). U wanna argue with him? The world is filled with ppl far worse off.

  • @seanhanna78

When telling someone off to educated themselves on a person, it helps to spell their name correctly - N E A L

  • neals on meth,it s nothin new

  • According to her book 'Off the Road', Carolyn Cassady, (Neal's ex-wife) felt that he was descending into madness in the last years of his life (he died in '67). That's the way he strikes me: the rambling, often incoherent speech, the nervous, exaggerated gestures. Although I've read a bunch by and about him, this is the first time I've seen him. Somehow I didn't expect the western drawl.

I must say I find Ginsberg rather tiresome, and his poetry nothing great.

  • @personaficta looks like a text book drug response to me -- probably just high on weed since he weaves in and out of consciousness (paying attention) -- plus hes nervous infront of a camera meant to be viewed by lots of people, as anyone would be

  • I agree. So perhaps you can tell me what all the flap about Neal is? I've read about him, and some of his own stuff, and I don't see the talent, let alone the greatness. His family's website claims he had a genius-level IQ: that surely can't be true. He comes off as some affable beachcomber with (reputedly: I don't see it here) a magnetic personality.

  • He makes that face in sarcasm of what he's reading. Hence why Ginsberg replies with, "That's pessimistic", or something like that.

  • Cassady looses control of his face from 5:54 to 5:59 lol!

  • neal cassady = dean moriarty = michael scott, regional manager, Dunder Mifflin Paper Company. Three fish, one consciousness haha

  • neal keeps lookin at allen like "wow hes so smart".hes more cheeky chap type yet he keeps trying to seem like he knows what allens talking about but i dont think he does!u can tell allen thinks neals hot!

  • These guys were the *Ultimate*! Just study the Beat Movement a little bit, like even just here on youtube, and it'll totally blow your mind how much these 2 seemingly wacky guys changed the world!.... ;-)

  • just kind of test period, ya know, get rid of a few millionaire here and there..

  • this is cassady SLOW. The Holy Goof. he doesn't miss a Beat. neither a ho or a hum or a huh or a "ya know what I'm sayin'", it's all in there, just under the skin. Maybe the perfect Life Artist. The heroes are dead. None left like this anymore.

  • Well, this is the kind of painful-to-watch awfulness you get . . . when two of the Karamazov Brothers think they can get along in life without the third (Kerouac, in this case).

Personally, I can't stomach Ivan in this video . . . at all. Choosing between just the two of them, I'd have to go with Dmitri every time.

But that's neither here nor there. The main point is that without ALL three . . . you're invariably doomed.

  • I'm watching Neal Cassady for the first time and I'm really surprised how self-conscious he is because of the camera. Can anyone explain his exaggerated facial and hand gestures? Was this hip to act this way, then? Kerouac was hung up acting the same way, copied from Cassady no doubt.

Ginsberg is an attention hog. Note how he doesn't invite his pal (ex-lover) into the conversation and even takes a couple uncalled for jabs at him for voicing his thoughts, stupid though they were.

  • I don't see him as being self-conscious, but having exactly the kinds of movements and gestures that I imagined him to have. Just his natural way of being , I think.

"...absolutly mad in his movements;...doing everything at the same time..shaking of the head, up and down, sideways; jerky; vigorous hands;...crossing legs, uncrossing...rubbing fly, hitching pants, looking up...all the time he was grabbing me by the ribs and talking, talking." -On The Road

  • He got it perfectly. That´s it, exactly as Kereac described. It´s a historical register ! Someoem said he´s like Kramer, of Seinfeld. jahahahahah

  • Forty four years later and its the same problems we face. Ginsberg died and "Satan" made this place his home. Free speech is irrelevant to a society drunk on prescription cocktails and so the never ending wars go completely ignored. Too dazzled by technology. Too hypnotized by the machine. Too dulled to ever recognize America's prophets who, forty four years ago, held placards and pointed the way back home.

  • Free speech doesn't mean anything anymore, at least in America. There is zero danger of current society offending the status quo with substance. We only know how to offend with juvenile parroting of whatever supposedly vulgar crap they pick up. People like Ginsberg were offensive to those who would be offended because they took things that had meaning and and created new meaning from them. Now we only know how to destroy. We mock all previous meaningful things, but we cannot create new meaning.

  • very good man. only technology has changed since then. we as humans are still the same. governments feeds us with drink to forget about the truth. a war without guns will never work

  • @emberlivingood

look at project mkultra, the haarp desestabilizator, de cia, jfk, cocaine to guetos, pentagon and warfares, lies...yes they can, everything, even spaceships and alien treatties...

  • @emberlivingood

    Beautiful!

  • @emberlivingood Eloquently put...I'm neither a believer in god/satan,only that life is a a continuous recycling of moments in time. I still believe we can reawaken our united consciousness and raise the placards once again. Thanks for your post.

  • @emberlivingood

    well said.

  • @emberlivingood and its only gotten worse, im actually aware of all the bullshit in the middle east and the distractions you see on American media. and my little sister is completely oblivious. who cares about a 10 million dollar wedding or who said what at some vanity filled award show.
