And the gold standard would be...? As far as im aware a properly inserted and secured ET tube can protect the airway from anything regurgitated by the stomach but not fluids or foreign bodies aspirated by the lungs... so AFAIK an ET tube is the gold standard...
That's exactly what I mean. The ETT is indeed the gold standard.
Doesn't quite protect the airway from ANYthing regurgitated from the stomach, though, as sadly the issue of microaspiration is very real in Intensive Care.
