You know, memory was an issue back in the days. So the decision about meager 8MBit against a 32MBit and maybe no battery save was not to piss off gamers, but more for the production costs, as the companies had to buy the cartridges from Nintendo.

It might be only two lines, but the voice sounds really nice in quality. But the game itself rocked, that intro music - eerie, but hopeful, the whole layout of Zebes and many other things (including sequence breaking) make this game an epic adventure.

lrn 2 read, space stations self destruct sequence was initiated,

also mother brain was the core of the planet sized space pirate base, the pirates were using metroid's strange ability to create energy to fuel their ....piratey ways or something like that

with out their energy source the planet shorted out and exploded or something like that

The ending of this game (Mother Brain Boss Battle) is all but confirmed to be in Metroid: Other M. I just hope to god it's in the intro of that game explaining the events of the last game much like this very intro does. I also hope the intro is very very well directed and that the entire finale is well shown and not just quick clips. I'd cream myself.

I also think the redoing of the final battle of Super Metroid in 3D looked pretty damn cool. My guess is that might be shown during the intro since Other M takes place between Super Metroid and Metroid Fusion.

The music in this intro is to die for. The typing over Samus' face along with the somewhat foreboding kick ass music really sets the mood for the adventure to come.

The music at :0:35 and 0:43 are godly.

How can people make such a PERFECT game? It's astounding.

No I actually meant developers back in the day that didn't have to resort to gimmicky plastic guitars and mainstream culture to sell games. When games were truly pure. The SNES era was gaming PERFECTION imo. When SNES was all you needed to have an UNBELIEVABLE gaming experience. I still love gaming today but nothing can beat SNES imo, not even the NES.

Japanese developers used to (they still can though) make ALL the best games. Before Americans were even on the map. I miss old school gaming. Before dipshits thought crap like Halo was the best game of all time there were REAL games like Super Metroid, Final Fantasy 6, and Out Of This World.

"Out of This World" was made in France (Another World to be precise) and originaly developed for the Commodore Amiga. I understand what youre saying, but please, don't insult stuff like 'Halo' because it is special for younger kids and growup alike who really never experienced the 16-bit age of gaming. Yeah I know Out Of This World was released on several systems before the SNES and it's also been remade on the PC which I'd love to get. I got a demo of it once and it looked fantastic.

Sorry, I didn't mean to start a flamewar but I just miss my old school gaming and it frustrates me thinking gaming has somewhat lost its way. Well I know Halo is for another generation but it has nothing to do with old school games, there are plenty of new school games way better than Halo, I just don't get it.

Out Of This World needs a sequel/reimagining big time. The intro to that game is on par with this game's as far as I'm concerned. One of the most directed most atmospheric games ever created. So another sequel or something that isn't a homebrew remake (nothing against the PC remake I'd just like to own it on a console like XBLA or Wiiware)

There is a sequel and its not Flashback. Its the very rare "Another World 2" for Sega MegaCD, where you play as the alien buddy, but I wont spoil it for you. =)

Totally agree ShiryuGL. A true classic. My fave Metroid to this day. Great detailed graphics, amazing sound and music and loads of fun. A big game too. I could never get 100% completion either. I have this on cart for my SNES and bring it out to blast through it now and then.

To anyone who knows that Metroid Prime and Metroid Prime 2 are being re-done for the Nintendo Wii system, imagaine if Metoid, Metriod 2 for the gameboy and Super Metroid were 2D-re-done for the Nintendo DS.

If you've played the first three Metoids you'll know that, just like the Metroid Prime trilogy, the story is consecutive.

How sweat would that be, everything you live about the first Metroid and Metroid 2, looking just as beautifil as Super Metroid.

Me and my family use to attempt to beat this many times when I was young. We all use to sit around and take turns playing it, and we never did fully beat it. Also, every time we started a new game, we use to call the scientist at the far left at 1:39 monkey boy. I ended up beating this game on my own, and I still think this is one of the greatest games I have ever played. It will always be a classic.

Have you noticed that the later games of METROID make it so that when the bosses lose health... They go on to a different fight sequence. However, in Super METROID, depending on your health... Certian events happen. (Hint, the bigginning with Ridley and the end with Mother Brain.)

Metriod 1-3 were made by a different person than the rest of the games, thats why none of the games made afterwards are mentioned in the #1-3. Its the new developers' fault that they cant incorporate their creations into the original storyline.

Der letzte Metroid ist in Gefangenschaft. In der Galaxie herrscht Frieden.

Zuerst bekämpfte ich die Metroids auf dem Planeten Zebes. Dort vereitelte ich die Pläne vom Anführer der Weltraumpiraten, Mother Brain (german: Mutterhirn), welche die Kreaturen zum Angriff auf die galaktische Zivilisation benutzen wollten.

Danach bekämpfte ich die Metroids auf ihrem Heimatplaneten SR388 und löschte sie komplett aus, bis auf eine Larve die sich wie ein verwirrtes Kind benahm...
