Nobody's defending Bernard or Dinosaur, they're supposed to be the bad guys (although like everybody else in this movie, their acting sucks). This has got to be the most contived plot in movie history.

Of course, Billy gets his jeep donated to him by all the people who are grateful of the hard work he does protecting the land. I am more concerned with why young Possner goes in the ice cream shop to harass Miss "Up Yours"?!

billy jack was a great movie that portrayed a young man back form Vietnam.you need to watch the movie born loser, to understand what was going on during that era!
I have a temper like Billy to, I came home from working all day and went to get an icecream sandwich from the freezer and my wife had ate them all, so I rubbed my forehead and then I just went beserk and did her like Billy did those guys and the next day there was a freezer full of icecream sandwiches and she was in alot of pain.

Were Amercan-Indians really treated that way in 1971 --- in the North? I grew up in the 70's in the northern U.S. and was was never aware of Jim Crow practices levied against these people. I remember my grandfather trying to help an Indian in Minnesota cope with his alcoholism but he (Indian) passed away in the cold. My grandfather was a die hard Republican too.

The Billy Jack movies are now old, outdated pretty bad compared to the quality of today's movies. I don't know too many stores in the U.S. who would reject someone's money because of the color of their skin. Money is color blind and a sale is a sale. Of course it makes for a great Hollywood movie even though scenes like this ice cream shoot looks so contrived, silly, and farfetched now.
Being Native American myself, I liked this movie, except for the fake wit the white people playing as Indians this would have been better if there was legit Natives in it.
This movie was important to me when I was young because I had American Indian friends and relatives. I have seen injustice, so I enjoyed seeing the cowards in the ice cream parlor being taught a lesson.
As far as the other message in the movie about mustangs being slaughtered for dog food, I have always disliked it. I come from a ranching family and we did not believe that profit should rule over pride. We also respected the land and the animals, unlike some stockman.
As far as politics goes, I find it humorous. I work to fight paedophilia around the globe and have had some interesting comments from the far left and the far right. Lately, I have been bombarded by neo nazis and socialists both supporting paedophilia. Those who claim to be on one side or the other mean nothing to me, but their actions do.

Were Amercan-Indians really treated that way in 1971 --- in the North? I grew up in the 70's in the northern U.S. and was was never aware of Jim Crow practices levied against these people. I remember my grandfather trying to help an Indian in Minnesota cope with his alcoholism but he (Indian) passed away in the cold. My grandfather was a die hard Republican too.

There were pitched battles between native Americans and US forces at Alcatraz in 1971 and Wounded Knee in 1973, and nothing whatever was done to redress the grievances that caused the American Indian Movement to occupy the former Federal prison or the town of Wounded Knee SD.
Whereas in Australia laws were passed and changed to better the status of Aborigines, and in Fiji the British arranged for native Fijians to hold land.

Nothing whatever has been done to redress or amerliorate the basic problem: that the "freedom" of whites to own property is also their "freedom" to buy land at low low prices from Indians whom they have deceived.
Whereas in Fiji, non-natives are not to this day permitted to own land.
This has had bad effects, such as the oppression of Indians (from India).
But it shows that the "character defects" of Native Americans are not a factor in their oppression. The basic game is rigged.

The dialogue makes it clear that the discrimination isn't "Jim Crow": the girl says that the Indians just know when they're not wanted.
"Jim Crow" refers to laws passed in violation of the 14th Amendment by the defeated Johnny Rebs down south. The town doesn't have these laws, but Indians don't get served in the Anglo shops.

The trick is the realise that every groups has been hurt and has dominated, and that the trick is to look at the now- if things are good as they are, forget the past, because anyone can bring up an offence if they wish.

The Billy Jack movies are now old, outdated pretty bad compared to the quality of today's movies. I don't know too many stores in the U.S. who would reject someone's money because of the color of their skin. Money is color blind and a sale is a sale. Of course it makes for a great Hollywood movie even though scenes like this ice cream shoot looks so contrived, silly, and farfetched now.

This movie was important to me when I was young because I had American Indian friends and relatives. I have seen injustice, so I enjoyed seeing the cowards in the ice cream parlor being taught a lesson.
As far as the other message in the movie about mustangs being slaughtered for dog food, I have always disliked it. I come from a ranching family and we did not believe that profit should rule over pride. We also respected the land and the animals, unlike some stockman.

Ah, even as a preschooler, I had a massive crush on "Up Yours".
As for the american indian, the white man went through the same thing 1,000 years earlier. He learned to upgrade technology, and discard obsolete weapons. Even the british longbow was superior to anything the indian had.
