  • This is really a great video...thanks so much for posting it. You make it look so easy I'm going to try it myself. What is the "filler" resin?

  • hey dude, this is a sweet video, leaves lots of questions for us backyard / family ding repairers, but i enjoyed seeing a pro do it . cheers

  • Awesome possum dude.. What do you use for pigments? Can I use something as simple as model paint? Thank you for your video, it was easy to understand, informative, and most of all, do-able.

  • Very cool man, great video, good job, see ya my friend!

  • it is kind of like fixing a sheetrock patch on a wall..different materials same technic

  • Christopher Walken

  • Very well thought-out and professional video. Would it be a good technique to apply a layer of Q cell mixture over the foam piece? Would that even make a difference?

  • I have a ding in my board and don't no wich type of foam to use and wich type of resin i should use can you help me

    THX

  • This is a great video, i think it will be one of my first references in repairing my board!

I do have one question, though: what is the difference between the 4oz and 6oz sheets?

    Thanks, Mj

  • @gredsfed13 you should use only 4oz cloth for repairs. Its liter and more flexible.

  • suncure sucks

  • best ding repair video on the web! thank you

  • Thanks for the great video. Your repairs are very well finished. I am going to try your method , but would like to know the rough mix ratios of the filler, hard coat and gloss. Once again thanks for this great series.

  • @malveiraracing Dude, that's a gorgeous repair. And yeah, he has a video up of repairing a broken tail on a fishtail, which I believe qualifies for a "real repair," in which he does an equally beautiful job. I'd love to see one of your hackjobs. Sure, he probably charged a few dollars for this, but it isn't some cheap-ass Quiet Flight repair either. After completion, it appears that the board was never even damaged. In BOTH videos. THAT'S profession ding repair.

  • @FallenKain Thank you for your response to that Jack ass...really. I don't know what's up with that. So much anger and all that talk about other man's company, I'm not sure if this is the kind of video he likes to watch.

  • @lanzi34 Every once in a while, it seems that people can't resist the impulse to piss on someone else's hard work. I never understood it myself. You're an artist with a surfboard my friend. That guy's probably never even been on one.

  • @FallenKain Sorry it took me so long to respond, I was out for four months surfing New Zealand and Australia! Thankfully, I didn't need your tips ; )

  • to glue the foam onto the board, I use resin, mixed with resin thikener (q-cel) and mixed in pigment (orange in this case). The color I was refering to , Nova Color its the acrylic, water base, that is spray over the repair.

  • I use acrylic paint from Nova Color, Los Angeles , Ca

  • is that what your using for the bonding of the foam as well?

  • Thank you for sharing! I usually tape off the area but I'm going to try your technique.

  • Thanks for sharing with us. great work!

  • a true master of the art, nice work once again. do you use sanding or laminating resin when you filled it the first time? also, you can lam over the filler before it kicks right?

    Thanks man

  • its an overkill for the type of damage sustained. Adding too much filler, pigment and resin will make the board unbalanced. not ideal for buoyancy and light weight.

  • look at the size of the board man. Do you honestly think it will mater. NO sir

  • i can know of a simpler, cheaper, reliable (as any, or more, i dare say) than what is shown here. Power to the dude who does this obviously to cater for all the "Chardonnay" surfies who just brag about having paid x amount of dollars to fix their little toy.

  • sorry but I think you should take another look at the video, If you pay enough attention you will see the part where I insert FOAM to keep the repair lighter. If you have a better technic, please don't be self fish and share it with surfers around the World, like I have.

  • where do you get the foam

and how do you know the right shape for the foam?

  • you get the foam from a old surfboard.

attatch the piece of foam to the area with resin filler and let dry. After it dries, bring this attatched piece of foam to the shape of the board.

  • it might be a while before i get around to it though

i have a lot of other projects im working on

when i do it i will let you know !

    thanks for your help surfmoura.

  • great repair bro informative too

  • shoulld i cut off the jaged nose and tail before i glass it? where can i get the meterieals for this? and how much does it normaly cost?

and how many layers of glass do i need?

  • you should sand off all damaged fibers and foam from the area, making a perfect shaped area for the new foam. cut off any old foam from a old surfboard and glue it on with filler. After filler dries, sand the foam, bringing it to the shape of the board. Make sure foam its a hair lower then the surfface. Now you can place the new fibers over the foam. Good luck.

  • can you fix a broken off nose

  • Depends. You can but to a certain extent. Some guys just glass over the tip and leave the nose off. Your preference really..

  • how would you glass over the tip

  • Make the surface smooth and sand appropriately and lay probably a 4oz cloth over the surface and glass as normal.

  • Excellent video, and very nice work on the repair!

  • thank god some one that realy knows how to repair

  • any way to do a similar quality repair job without the power tools? just in case you need to do that kind of repair on a surf trip

  • yes you can, but you need to have a sanding block and lots of time in your hands. It will take about 10 times longer.

  • Nice work

  • i'd suggest wearing a mask when sanding fiberglass

  • I do wear one my friend, but if I had to wear for the video, you wouldn't be able to hear me talking.....got it?

  • Grande video!! grande ajuda que me deu para reparar a minha tábua, obrigado!!

Abraço de Portugal e boas ondas!

  • Very helpful video - thanks!

  • Sweet.. very nice job!!

  • Cool!! Muchas gracias sos un genio. Saludos

  • Great video, you should make a whole series!

    Thanks!

  • I'm working on it. One more it's coming up.

    Thanks!
