Absolutely no excuse for what he did. He is an easy one to pull a good horror movie from, but I haven't seen a film just based on him yet. The spinoffs, Silence of the Lambs, Physo, and The Texas Chainsaw assacre (mainly the character of leatherface) are all good. What gives me chills is the morbidity of what he did. I believe his mother caused alot of his mental frustrations, but I would love to see a movie about all this.
