The above D Parker quote is incorrect. Look it up--i haven't got it right to hand, but she calls herself the 'twanstant weader' for one and i think she did succeed in throwing up! She was so damned funny, maybe too sarcastic for her (and our?) own good. Whilst i do not agree with her on Pooh Bear, i am touched by Parker's use of fangs as a defense weapon--even when there was no enemy in sight.
I'm in Stuart, Florida, trying to hang on to a house that was a tad overpriced when we bought it back in '05 at the height of the real estate boom. Before the Bust... now I teach English at the local college up the road. Not much to say about that except that the students are amazing (or mostly so) motivated souls.
Stuart is about 90 miles north of Miami--and you did not eat haggis for Burns' birthday, or did you? (Isn't that one of those yanking-the-yank's-leg sort of things to say?)
Stuart, Florida--our area on the Atlantic side is refered to as the Treasure Coast, though the only "treasure" to be found are underwater mortgages, really.
Seriously though, it's gorgeous weather. And the students at the local college are the best-est in the Sunshine State! (I have to say that or they'll take away my SunPass...)
I'm sure that Wendy Cope was inspired by her too! I shall delve into my box of 'Parker' tricks to see if I can find an appropriate one just for you- unless you would like to suggest one? :)

I love this. My favorite Dorothy Parker quote--you may know it--was her review of Winnie the Pooh. She said, "Thith weviewer ahlmost thwoed up!"
You're terrific, really. And I love the pacing you allow, especially in this one. Silences are punctuation and mental space...
Anyway, my thanks from far-off South Florida!

And thanks for your lovely comment!
Whereabouts in Florida are you? We had a holiday house in Sarasota for a time
