Meh. The song doesn't sound bad but I'm still on Paul Watson's side. "It's our tradition" is simply not an argument, in some areas of the world stoning adulterers is a tradition as well, that doesn't make it okay either.
@DoJaenin "It's our tradition" is not our excuse", but if you want Paul Watson to be your idol, just go ahead!
Faroe Islanders hunt pilot whales because of the same reason people kill chicken, namely for food!
You eat your chicken, who live all their miserable lives in little cages all their life, and yet you have something agaist pilot whaling in the Faroes. That does not make any sense. Whales are animals just like chicken therefor we eat them.
@vertyy That's a good argument with the cages... I guess hunting wild animals is still better than eating caged ones. As long as the hunting doesn't become so much that the species is driven into extinction or is conducted in a cruel way - but that's exactly what is happening now.
@acerb45666555 Which is actually what the song is about: it's a sort of lyrical "curse" against them and their boat. From the chorus, "May your ship sink, Rainbow Warrior floats no more, there are no Lights on that obtrusive creep."
@bigpileofcrock ............why? GreenPeace protects mother earth. .......and the new Neo-Paganism wants mother earth saved too! that ship is sacred! a brave voice against the scum who rip the land to pieces for profit!
@acerb45666555 Once upon a time that was true, however GP has become a primarily political organization, whose efforts are often contradictory to its claimed purpose. Consider that the founder is no longer a member, and actively speaks against them. I'm not saying that's necessarily enough to damn them for, but it does say a lot. In this case, there was an outcry against GP in northern territories for sticking their noses where they didn't belong, and that inspired the song.
This is song plays out a dialog between the mountainoues Faroese islands and the Hackerd Warrior(A.K.A. paul watson), with his rust bucket of a boat The Rainbow Warrior.
this basically says it is completely naturial to eat whale and those hippie protesters are truly nothing more, than weaklings of the food chain.
@danimuadib who says anyone is eating all of 'em? none one, people will seize killing whales the moment they show signs of diminishing.
and for the record, the biggest treat to all whales in are time, is not whaling, but pollution and over fishing, whom are depriving the Whales from their food source, which affects all the entirety of whales, not just the single few who get hunted, as with whaling.
@danimuadib Faroe Islanders already regulate their whaling, calm your concrete heart. They cannot afford to pay their way around the blood like you do.

3/3 Narwhals (aside form Greenlands west coast). The distinction between the Norwegian minke hunt and the Faroese pilot whales is important.
Anyone who whines about a culture they dont even attempt to understand because they dont want to think about how whatever they are eating died should stop complaining. If you think something is wrong become educated before you start ignorantly opposing it and being a huge hypocrite.
Supporting sustainability and living in the same manner is paramount
2/3 and inadvertently sensationalized aspects of north atlantic whaling in the past. SS and GP get lumped together based on founding members and causes but the at times blatant disregard for human safety of SS gets carried over to GP and can overshadow non-violent action. Watsons antics in the 90s n the North Atlantic, and elsewhere can give many environmental activists a bad name.
If its sustainable and responsible then GP wont lobby against it such as: Canadian seal hunt, or Inuit hunting
Tyr is an amazing band, we are lucky to have them travel to North America on tour! I think that this song exemplifies how NGOs need to navigate the difference between commercial and industrial fishing and whaling operations, and sustainable indigenous and traditional subsistence hunting.
Seems to me the song is about Watson and Sea Sheppard not Greenpeace (GP is not an animal rights organization) not to say that GP has not intentionally
I'm not 100% sure, but the song is most likely about the ship called Rainbow Warrior, which was owned by Green(terror)peace, which protested against things like whaling, which is one of the oldest traditions of the Faroe Islands, the homeland of Týr.
The ship was sunken by the French Government, and I'm pretty sure this is what the song's about.
Yep, damn shame if the Faroese would have had to give up one of their "oldest traditions" to save a species thats been on this earth longer than even the Faroe islands have.
Chickens, cows, sheep, turkeys, it has all been on the earth for longer than you have, but you still eat them. And that's not enough, you also threat them like SHIT, forcing them to live all their lives in small cages, fed for the sole purpose of slaughter.
Last time I checked, whales live a perfect life in freedom ALL their life, except the last 3 seconds it takes to kill them.
Plus, the amount of Pilot Whales is growing, they're not endangered, so don't pull that card out of the sleeve.
Right, we don't need to eat the whales, neither does anyone need to eat beef, but everyone (except human hating vegetarians) eat it anyways!
Why should you assholes all around the world be allowed to have animals as a mass industry, when we're not allowed to eat what we actually can get out of our country?
We can't grow fruits, we can grow a few vegetables, it's too cold for any animal to live here without taking constantly care of it (except sheep)...
Do you want us to just stop eating, and die??? 'Cause it sounds fucking like it.
And no, we can't purely live of McDonals and other junk food like the rest of the pathetic world, WE'RE NOT A FUCKING RICH COUNTRY YOU IGNORANT CUNT!!!
Vegetarians don't hate humans. I'm a vegetarian because i know that the production of most animal products is needlessly wasteful and harmful to our world. So i am a vegetarian becasue i care about humans.
There are many things that are more harmful to our environment to produce than animal products. In fact, there are many animal products that are safer to produce than their synthetic counterparts.
Being a vegetarian is a dietary choice. If there are reasons behind your choice, that's fine, but it isn't necessary to make it everyone's business. Many people eat meat, but I rarely see that being brought up, so why should people bring up that they don't?
the vast vegetarians are not vegetarians for personal reasons. Who doesnt WANT to eat meat? The goal that most vegetarians are tyring to achieve through changing their diets can only be acheived if a large portion of the world becomes vegetarian.
BTW i brought up being vegetarian because he said "except human hating vegetarians" i was just trying to point out that vegetarians do not hate humans
"BTW i brought up being vegetarian because he said "except human hating vegetarians" i was just trying to point out that vegetarians do not hate humans"
I never ram it down anyones neck that I'm a vegetarian and my reasons for being one, however when it comes to going out for a meal and people hear me order a vegetarian option the meat eaters go crazy and start giving me 20 questions and ramming their views down my neck.
But would you want to eat sheep and fish with potatoes EVERY single day?
We eat whales when we can, when the whales get too close to the shore, but that's pretty rare now a days, it's impossible to say when you can expect whales.
I don't care if you're a vegetarian or not, you should go fight for better conditions for the animals that actually suffer every single day in their life, instead of picking on small countries just because you can.
And before you say anything, we have strict rules on the welfare of the animals (sheep) that live in the country, and strict fishing rules, preventing overfishing, trying to avoid destroying the ocean, as most other countries are becoming professional at.
That includes strict rules on whaling, it's not barbaric murder, it's more humane than most chicken farms all around the world. It just looks barbaric, because what a surprise, THERE IS BLOOD IN THE WHALES?!?!?!
first of all, the islands are all but sterile. the women in the faroes, give birth the an average of 2.6 children, that is the highest fertility average, than in any other country in europe! so don't give me that bullshit.
I saw some in concert once playing w/o their shirts on. They didn't look all that fit and the bassist was kinda chunky =/
But they sure made good music!
But what does that have to do w/the islands being sterile? It also suopports my claim that the you can't grow much there when you said "how extremly few people we are".
you can grow stuff here, potatos, tomatoes, apples exc. but due too the cold and unprediceble climate it grows very slowly, which makes it impossible to make and industri out of cultivating the earth.
And the way the whales are killed, is with a specially designed knife, made to cut their spinal chords, killing them INSTANTLY!!! It's the same as chopping your fucking head of, you won't feel it.
It's not about whaling, Its about adventure and Heimdahl the guardian of the rainbow bridge to Valhalla and appeasing him with tales of glory and treasure.
Vikings didn't exist during Roman times, are you instead talking about "bararians"? Cause they didn't "slaughter" the Romans either, the Romans usually won every battle against them, even when heavily outnumbered. Discipline, training, tactics and strategy>>>>>>>>>disorganized mobs
@Lengsel7 norse people existed, but i wouldnt call them vikings since they didnt raid and plunder other countries at that time, i would simply call them Norse
a member of any Scandinavian people who carried out seaborne raids of northwestern Europe between the 8th and 11th centuries ad, often settling in the areas they invaded, as in Britain.
@xSkraelingx i dont know about that, the germans(barbarians) often defeated the romans, the romans didnt dare to conquer germany because of the warlike people there, and the romans were certainly not outnumbered, they owned almost all europe , parts of asia and africa,so they could get troops from various countries
Have you read ANY history? Roman legions regularly kicked the asses of the Germanic armies at the time, even when outnumbered. Here I'll pull out a random example: the Battle of Naissus in 268 AD, the Romans crushed a huge (thought to be about 50,000) invading force of Goths in Serbia. The battle of Teutoburg, an ambush, was a rare victory for the Germanic tribes but gives many people the impression that the Barbarians were a bigger threat than they actually were.
@xSkraelingx i am not talking about GERMANIC people i am talking about GERMANS(from germany) and if you have ANY history then you would know that the romans didnt conquer germany orany lands further north
Because the Romans wanted the Rhine river to be their northern border, the Romans certainly did conquer the land South of the Rhine that would later be part of Germany. Plus, if you knew ANY history you would know that the concept of Germany would come more than a thousand years later and not encapsulate the land that all the "Germans" were living on during the time of the Romans.
@berserkur19 No, you're not. In 9CE Arminius, a Germanic Cherusci chieftain, orchestrated an ambush which destroyed several legions who were trying to conquer Magna Germania - the Romans never tried again. Look up The Battle of Teutoberg Forest.
@Einheri1989 exactly, and it says that the germans had 10,000 - 12,000 tribal warriors while the romans had something about 36.000 soldiers on that battle, the german casualties 600 dead, roman casualties 20,000 (plus that several romans got enslaved)
@berserkur19 He must have been a great warleader, especially considering he was only 25 at the time. We still sometimes drink to Arminius at blot - over two thousand years later and he is still remembered fondly.
@berserkur19 there were alot of different germanic trides that messed up the romans. wasnt the battle you are talking about involving the Franks? when the roman empire were still trying to conquer Gaul? I dont kow if you guys mentioned who, i havent read all the posts.
@Einheri1989 True. I've been there, the place which is thought to be the place of the battle, with a huge statue of Arminius. Hermanns denkmal is the name.
@Einheri1989 this is Gaul correct? the Franks? there were many germanic trides fighting against Rome at and around this time. I cant remember all the history, but I love learning about it though.
@NordicWarrior91 No, this was in Germania, Teutoburger Wald (Teutoburg Forest) is in modern Niedersachsen and Nordrhein-Westfalen in Germany. Armin was Cherusci, but he led a confederation of several tribes against the Roman invaders - if he hadn't Rome may have conquered the whole of Germany and from there even Scandinavia (certainly Denmark, if not further north).
Finding them here is hard too. I can't say I've looked very hard for them, and I must admit, HMV isn't a very good place to do so, consdering what a poor metal section they have. However, I did manage to get Ragnarok and Eric the Red (the albums) through iTunes.
And even up here in Canada, we can appreciate these guys. I'm just sad that I don't have more money (and more time), otherwise I would've loved to go see them over in Montreal when they were touring here. No one ever comes to Ottawa :(
Uh yeah... I'm a bassist/guitarist myself and Tyr is some of the most expressive/varied guitar playing i've ever heard... Most of us over here are faggots yes, but don't give up hope lol. I feel bad for you foreigners that have never met an intelligent american...
When I get money, I'll buy all their albums. I'm seriously in love with this band.. "And though we might be human, we are still animals" can't get it out of my head xD.
Meh. The song doesn't sound bad but I'm still on Paul Watson's side. "It's our tradition" is simply not an argument, in some areas of the world stoning adulterers is a tradition as well, that doesn't make it okay either.

½ This is long but I felt like posting it:
Tyr is an amazing band, we are lucky to have them travel to North America on tour! I think that this song exemplifies how NGOs need to navigate the difference between commercial and industrial fishing and whaling operations, and sustainable indigenous and traditional subsistence hunting.
Seems to me the song is about Watson and Sea Sheppard not Greenpeace (GP is not an animal rights organization) not to say that GP has not intentionally

What does abandoning your friends and family have to do with "love & light"?
Taken directly from nibaruancouncil website:
"Indications of a walk-in are:
2. They all of a sudden, have little or no connection with some family members.
3. Divorce occurs usually within 3 years after the walk-in has arrived.
5. Loss of coordination and memory lapses. Trouble with speech.
7. Sudden loss of interest in career and hobbies."
That sounds dark sided to me more than of the light, or even mind control.

I'm not 100% sure, but the song is most likely about the ship called Rainbow Warrior, which was owned by Green(terror)peace, which protested against things like whaling, which is one of the oldest traditions of the Faroe Islands, the homeland of Týr.
The ship was sunken by the French Government, and I'm pretty sure this is what the song's about.
themightychickens 2 years ago 2
yes, that's what the song is about. Good thing the French sunk that piece of shit

Yep, damn shame if the Faroese would have had to give up one of their "oldest traditions" to save a species thats been on this earth longer than even the Faroe islands have.
xSkraelingx 2 years ago 3
Chickens, cows, sheep, turkeys, it has all been on the earth for longer than you have, but you still eat them. And that's not enough, you also threat them like SHIT, forcing them to live all their lives in small cages, fed for the sole purpose of slaughter.
Last time I checked, whales live a perfect life in freedom ALL their life, except the last 3 seconds it takes to kill them.
Plus, the amount of Pilot Whales is growing, they're not endangered, so don't pull that card out of the sleeve.
themightychickens 2 years ago
i don't eat cows, sheep, turkeys or chickens nor do i keep them in cages.
since you've lived a life on freedom except the last 3 seconds it would take me to kill you, may i kill you?
besides the way they kill them isn't particualarly pleasent (for the whales at least)
they don't even need the whales
xSkraelingx 2 years ago
Right, we don't need to eat the whales, neither does anyone need to eat beef, but everyone (except human hating vegetarians) eat it anyways!
Why should you assholes all around the world be allowed to have animals as a mass industry, when we're not allowed to eat what we actually can get out of our country?
We can't grow fruits, we can grow a few vegetables, it's too cold for any animal to live here without taking constantly care of it (except sheep)...
themightychickens 2 years ago
Do you want us to just stop eating, and die??? 'Cause it sounds fucking like it.
And no, we can't purely live of McDonals and other junk food like the rest of the pathetic world, WE'RE NOT A FUCKING RICH COUNTRY YOU IGNORANT CUNT!!!
themightychickens 2 years ago
Vegetarians don't hate humans. I'm a vegetarian because i know that the production of most animal products is needlessly wasteful and harmful to our world. So i am a vegetarian becasue i care about humans.
xSkraelingx 2 years ago
well said!
Peace,
Saree3 2 years ago
There are many things that are more harmful to our environment to produce than animal products. In fact, there are many animal products that are safer to produce than their synthetic counterparts.
Being a vegetarian is a dietary choice. If there are reasons behind your choice, that's fine, but it isn't necessary to make it everyone's business. Many people eat meat, but I rarely see that being brought up, so why should people bring up that they don't?
Kind of a moot point.
Personal Preference
MassNecrophagia 2 years ago
the vast vegetarians are not vegetarians for personal reasons.

I never ram it down anyones neck that I'm a vegetarian and my reasons for being one, however when it comes to going out for a meal and people hear me order a vegetarian option the meat eaters go crazy and start giving me 20 questions and ramming their views down my neck.

But i suppose you're right. As sterile as the islands are that you live on, it would be stupid not to take advantage of the sea around you.
But, are there no fish in the sea around the Faroe islands? No one said you couldn't eat that.
How often do you eat whale meat then? Are they a necessary staple in your diet or just something you eat every now and then?
xSkraelingx 2 years ago
Our fish industry is 97% of the countries export.
But would you want to eat sheep and fish with potatoes EVERY single day?
We eat whales when we can, when the whales get too close to the shore, but that's pretty rare now a days, it's impossible to say when you can expect whales.
I don't care if you're a vegetarian or not, you should go fight for better conditions for the animals that actually suffer every single day in their life, instead of picking on small countries just because you can.
themightychickens 2 years ago
And before you say anything, we have strict rules on the welfare of the animals (sheep) that live in the country, and strict fishing rules, preventing overfishing, trying to avoid destroying the ocean, as most other countries are becoming professional at.
That includes strict rules on whaling, it's not barbaric murder, it's more humane than most chicken farms all around the world. It just looks barbaric, because what a surprise, THERE IS BLOOD IN THE WHALES?!?!?!
themightychickens 2 years ago
first of all, the islands are all but sterile. the women in the faroes, give birth the an average of 2.6 children, that is the highest fertility average, than in any other country in europe! so don't give me that bullshit.
we eat about 8-15 meals of whale in a year.
aGeilini 2 years ago
i didn't mean strile that way -.-
I meant sterile as in you cant grow much there!

I saw some in concert once playing w/o their shirts on. They didn't look all that fit and the bassist was kinda chunky =/
But they sure made good music!
But what does that have to do w/the islands being sterile? It also suopports my claim that the you can't grow much there when you said "how extremly few people we are".
xSkraelingx 2 years ago
you can grow stuff here, potatos, tomatoes, apples exc. but due too the cold and unprediceble climate it grows very slowly, which makes it impossible to make and industri out of cultivating the earth.
aGeilini 2 years ago
And the way the whales are killed, is with a specially designed knife, made to cut their spinal chords, killing them INSTANTLY!!! It's the same as chopping your fucking head of, you won't feel it.
themightychickens 2 years ago
It's not about whaling, Its about adventure and Heimdahl the guardian of the rainbow bridge to Valhalla and appeasing him with tales of glory and treasure.
UncleSix1776 2 years ago
It's not about whaling, it's about the ship called Rainbow Warrior, owned by Greenpeace, which got sunked.
The lyrics fit perfectly with the facts of that ship.

Vikings didn't exist during Roman times, are you instead talking about "bararians"? Cause they didn't "slaughter" the Romans either, the Romans usually won every battle against them, even when heavily outnumbered. Discipline, training, tactics and strategy>>>>>>>>>disorganized mobs
xSkraelingx 1 year ago
@xSkraelingx Vikings certainly did exist during Roman times. Vikings were just one of the tribes referred to as Barbarians.
Lengsel7 1 year ago
@Lengsel7
No. They. Didn't. In the Year 200 AD there were no Norse riding in boats attacking villages and stealing things in the way they did 700 years later.
xSkraelingx 1 year ago
@Lengsel7 norse people existed, but i wouldnt call them vikings since they didnt raid and plunder other countries at that time, i would simply call them Norse
berserkur19 1 year ago
@berserkur19 One doesn't need to raid and plunder to be a Viking. The majority of Vikings didn't raid or plunder.
Lengsel7 1 year ago
@Lengsel7
By definition a Viking has to raid and plunder. If he doesn't, he is just a plain old Norseman.
xSkraelingx 1 year ago
@Lengsel7 "Viking":
a member of any Scandinavian people who carried out seaborne raids of northwestern Europe between the 8th and 11th centuries ad, often settling in the areas they invaded, as in Britain.

antagonist42 1 year ago 2
@xSkraelingx i dont know about that, the germans(barbarians) often defeated the romans, the romans didnt dare to conquer germany because of the warlike people there, and the romans were certainly not outnumbered, they owned almost all europe , parts of asia and africa,so they could get troops from various countries
berserkur19 1 year ago
@berserkur19
The battle of Teutoburg, an ambush, was a rare victory for the Germanic tribes but gives many people the impression that the Barbarians were a bigger threat than they actually were.
xSkraelingx 1 year ago
@xSkraelingx i am not talking about GERMANIC people i am talking about GERMANS(from germany) and if you have ANY history then you would know that the romans didnt conquer germany orany lands further north
berserkur19 1 year ago
@berserkur19
Zdhbgviaefvervasfvkjehfgvpoer!!!!!
xSkraelingx 1 year ago
@xSkraelingx but am i mistaken when i say that the romans tried to conquer germany and failed at it?
berserkur19 1 year ago
@berserkur19 No, you're not. In 9CE Arminius, a Germanic Cherusci chieftain, orchestrated an ambush which destroyed several legions who were trying to conquer Magna Germania - the Romans never tried again. Look up The Battle of Teutoberg Forest.
Einheri1989 1 year ago
@Einheri1989 exactly, and it says that the germans had 10,000 - 12,000 tribal warriors while the romans had something about 36.000 soldiers on that battle, the german casualties 600 dead, roman casualties 20,000 (plus that several romans got enslaved)
berserkur19 1 year ago
@berserkur19 He must have been a great warleader, especially considering he was only 25 at the time. We still sometimes drink to Arminius at blot - over two thousand years later and he is still remembered fondly.
Einheri1989 1 year ago 2
@berserkur19 there were alot of different germanic trides that messed up the romans. wasnt the battle you are talking about involving the Franks? when the roman empire were still trying to conquer Gaul? I dont kow if you guys mentioned who, i havent read all the posts.
NordicWarrior91 1 year ago
@Einheri1989 True. I've been there, the place which is thought to be the place of the battle, with a huge statue of Arminius. Hermanns denkmal is the name.
Nice song and pic!
MidgardGuitarwarrior 1 year ago
@Einheri1989 this is Gaul correct? the Franks? there were many germanic trides fighting against Rome at and around this time. I cant remember all the history, but I love learning about it though.
NordicWarrior91 1 year ago
@NordicWarrior91 No, this was in Germania, Teutoburger Wald (Teutoburg Forest) is in modern Niedersachsen and Nordrhein-Westfalen in Germany. Armin was Cherusci, but he led a confederation of several tribes against the Roman invaders - if he hadn't Rome may have conquered the whole of Germany and from there even Scandinavia (certainly Denmark, if not further north).
Einheri1989 1 year ago
Finding them here is hard too. I can't say I've looked very hard for them, and I must admit, HMV isn't a very good place to do so, consdering what a poor metal section they have. However, I did manage to get Ragnarok and Eric the Red (the albums) through iTunes.
And even up here in Canada, we can appreciate these guys. I'm just sad that I don't have more money (and more time), otherwise I would've loved to go see them over in Montreal when they were touring here. No one ever comes to Ottawa :(
