Hobie livewell is nice but not perfect from the box. good points..looks good, low profile, good construction. The bad- The pickup tube is shipped with small twist tie to hold it on and is easily lost. The pump is on the bottom so the water drains out when you shut it off. need to add a tube to exit water at top so water stays in all the time. Needs a screen on pickup, Battery needs more protection. battery is weak..pump needs constant reprime, by forward motion..
yesterday after I posted that, I went to home depot and 'fixed' the outflow for about 4 bucks. I also bought some tubing for the intake that will be more shallow water friendly ie: no hard plastic to snag on the oystersand cut a scoup out of the front of it. I think this thing is the solution if you own a revolution or newer model outback. I still would like to see more battery protection from the salt water envir. Like almost everything on a yak, you gotta tweak it, but it is a winner
and now my battery died after 6 months. This thing is impossible to install on dry land due to the fitting coming thru the bottom, so it makes rigging then launching almost impossible. Honestly, I give it a D.
I reckon they're expecting a TON of trolling for keeping the pump working.. But with most livewells (especially if you use it to put your catch in--and not your bait) they aeration aspect of it does not have to be on at all times.I don't own one of these livewells--nor do I own a kayak (I'm very very very interested in kayak fishing..looking into getting one) but with my little boat w/ a built-in livewell. I just flip the switch to "on" about once every hour and let it run for fifteen min.
Well it does have an on/off switch right behind your right shoulder and yes, I turn it off all the time in the shallows to save battery life and so as not to spook fish. However, if you do not modify it when you shut it off all the water drains out, kililng your bait and/or live catch. I really don't understand why hobie hasn't fixed this obvious flaw yet. They say that "it is designed to be run all the time". Really? You can "design" it to not do this for 4 bucks.
It won't fit in the Adventure Island because of the crossbeam used for the amas. This crossbeam is right behind the seat area and intrudes into the space above the rear scupper holes where the tank needs to sit. It does fit in the regular Adventure model, though.
A must have! But I've got a long list of things I need 1st. Great simple video. Thanks for sharing.
