  • What gig is this from ... would love to see more footage of the festival !;)

  • @frovil only this video is available. sorry.

    great avatar, though. :)

  • @frovil Australian Made Tour 86-87

  • @frovil It's the Australian Made festival of early 1987. There's lots of videos from it in youtube (Just search for "Australian Made") but this is the only Triffid's song featured...

  • Rob McComb takes my Geography class..

  • majesty in music

  • ths is part of the re-release of "Born Sandy Devotional". Get the CD

  • Amazing song! Amazing band!

  • About the Mam & the Music ,please guys.

That's what he loved ,the songs, and he was rightly proud of them.

    Great vocalist,musician,songwriter & poet.

"he was a little out of shape...But he was too young to go". R.I.P. - Dave.

    Never Forgotten.

  • Don't know where it is, nor care........

Its just a great song---the taping of live music has come a long way though. Saw this awhile ago on foxtel, so am really glad that you uploaded it--thanks. Agree with acepilot87---would have love to see them live when they were together.

  • brilliant...

  • what a song.

  • McComb is really on stride here as a vocalist moreso than even on the album: he just sings it with such passion and strength. I wish I'd been able to see them live when they were together.

  • Never could figure out why they didn't take off in the states like INXS.

  • OMG he is mah geography teacher!?!?!?!

  • @thehuggybear101: Hahaha, honour the work :P

  • Born Sandy Devotional - Best Australian album of all time. Dave Mccomb is a true legend.

  • Is there anything about this clip, or the song, or ANYTHING about the Triffids that isn't magnetic, angelic, or otherwise totally off the charts?

Civilization will be wondering for the next 100 years how on earth they managed to ignore this band when David McComb was alive and the Triffids were together. Thank God that the Triffids managed to carry on regardless.

Even their crappy songs were classic, and their every album was wonderful. Get honest with yourself about how great this band was.

  • This is absolutely marvelous . I've been a massive Triffids fan for years but never saw them live or even any live footage so this is a real treat. Thanks to whomever posted it , God Bless David McComb and thanks for all the heartbreakingly beautiful the band made . Check out In THe Pines , a great lost absolute classic !

  • lol, my geography teacher is in this band...they look so young here.

  • you are lucky! I wish there were teachers this cool when I was at school:)

I actually saw the Australian made gig that this clip came from, in Perth.

  • nup, shark park, cronulla, sydney, its obviously a rugby league ground, it was Australian made, i'd say about 84/85

  • It's Subiaco, in Perth.

  • its definately toyota park cronulla, you dim cunt

  • you dont know what the fuck you are talking about, i know exactly where it is, & its that far away from Perth its not even funny

  • Okay - I'll say this: according to the documentation that comes with the official release of the video, it's recorded at Subiaco.

  • well seeing as the tour went Australia wide, i'm sure there were shows in Subiaco, but that clip was taken in Sydney, in Cronulla.

Think of your precious Subiaco oval from the air, now picture the opening shot, how sure are you??, do you know the surrounds?? the golf course accross the road is Wooloware gold course, next to that is Wooloware high school, the big stand on the right of the stand is the peter Burns stand incorporating Cronulla Leagues Club, Cronulla beach is in the distance

  • I've not been to Subiaco, so you're probably right. I was only saying it was because on the back of "Born Sandy Devotional" Domino re-release, where this video is found, it says

"Wide Open Road (live) Subiaco Oval on the Australian Made Tour."

    Thank you for your correction.

  • Don't take time to thank idiots like downo14 who spend their life getting agitated because oh my god someone got something trivial wrong.

  • Bloody marvelous work Triffids. A jolly good stride in the search for national identity.

  • What can I say?!?

    Marvelous!!!

  • My comment was directed toward mrusualsuspect, some kid.

This is great-i have the dvd in THAT series, fab.!

We lost such a wonderful soul/poet/songwriter that aweful day.

    Australian classic album,Born Sandy Devotional..

  • You know, I'm going to take a moment to apologize, but only because I'm a bigger person than 'CreationBaby'. All I did was write the same thing he did about my son (literrally a cut and paste of HIS comments). My son had his own video - it was a cute, harmless video by a 4 year old and all I was, was returning the favour. I had no intention of insulting the dude in this video/artist, on this page. Just returning the favour to a chump. Apologies if I harmed anyone along the way.

  • hey thanks-no worries, just couldn't understand, you know.I have no idea who creationbaby is,just a huge fan of the late David McComb(Triffids),don't worry about it.

  • Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • yeah well.....don't go there/here

  • the symbolism of the words wide open road are awe inpiring.....

  • I've just recently converted to your analysis wholheartetly agree its one of the best songs ever - words, sound, everything

  • what a fucken soul stirring great tune...........beautiful

  • this music will live forever.

  • this is just fucking unreal

  • great stuff......

  • Fantastic music and lyrics, great memories - great shame more of their excellent work not on You Tube (same for Go Betweens and Only Ones)

  • Wide Open Road was played on 'Countdown'?!

Where is THAT footage? What did Molly say?

  • if I remember correctly they recorded this on film and not video and thats why it looks so great? anyone else remember?

  • i think i might've directed this..

  • where was it at??...looks like endeavour field cronulla??

  • Subiaco Oval, Perth, Australian Made Concert in the late 80's ("89 I think).

  • nope, its definately endeavour field Cronulla

  • Won of the best bands from down under ynwa

  • qué maravilla, David!!!!

  • sore brandy devotional, 4 ever devotional to David Mccomb!!! RIP

  • Excellent! RIP!

  • great stuff from a superb band!

  • wonderful.....thank you a million......!!

    a superb performance back home!

  • Brilliant! was this at a festival?

  • This was from the Australian Made tour video featuring Triffids, I'm Talking, The Saints, Divinyls, Models, Jimmy Barnes and INXS from 1987. The reissue version of the video (and dvd) omitted Triffids and Jimmy Barnes completely. Well worth getting a copy of the longer VHS as it has loads of behind the scenes stuff on it.

  • where was this at??...Cronulla??..shark park, bloody looks like it, i remember being young (lol) going to some of these shows, unfortunately i probably had no idea who the triffids were when i was 16 but i cant remember this, but geez that first shot of the landscape looks like Cronulla

  • Yeah its definately the 'nulla.

What a waste to have such an iconic aussie band palying to a bunch of spoilt in-breed shire fuckwits!

  • WHAT THE FUCK WOULD YOU KNOW TURD BURGLAR??, take your stereotypes & jam them up your fat blurter, you fucking fool
