Being a huge Maiden fan I can kind of see Axl's point of view. I'm not agreeing with him or anything but GNR and Maiden have different approaches and I couldn't really see GNR taking on Maiden type themes. I think Maiden's music is more about escapism or even writing about real life situations with a fiction based metaphorical analogy. GNR's approach was more direct .
@Krimzon121 (cont) When Maiden sang about being a stalker in Killers or discovering a Satanic coven in Number of the Beast, I knew it was purely fantastical. When Guns & Roses sang about strung out prostitutes and drug dealers, I really felt like they were singing about people they knew and associated with on a daily basis. Both great bands...very different approaches.
@cocoFSTAR Was it not 1988? I could be wrong... it was a long time ago! This got me into quite a lot of music as I'd just discovered Iron Maiden at that point.
