  • The bass is so massive! The alternate tunings are totally wretched! Awesome!

  • Awesome show. thanks uploader

  • how did he die?

  • @ea1997 he died in car accident

  • @ea1997 Donald rumsfeld, condi rice, george bush and

dick cheney drove their car into michaels to stop musicians

    advancing humanity through harmonic resonance.

  • there is a difference between being inspired by someone''& blantly ripping them off'' 2 different things

  • beauty....

  • I saw him live in Dallas, Tx shortly before his death. Simply mesmerizing live performance!

  • now i know where the music & style from that movie August Rush came from, they ripped him off,

  • it was kaki king playing that, he's one of her influences

  • Being inspired by Hedge's music is in no way ripping him off.

  • Man, Hedges was able to take a guitar and get so much out of it; like no one I have ever seen before.

  • Comment removed

  • totally thinking on a different plane than anyone before, along with, or after him.

    amazing.

  • watch?v=oigHIUVba-E&feature=related

is a much better performance than in this vid. Its worth checking out

  • i love this

  • much as i love michael hedges, i must admit that this isn't exactly one of his most coherant songs...

  • you suck because you cant do what he can and he's better then you even now because he's dead so dont worrie you have no expectations to live up to.

  • he was the man !

  • Miss him badly, what a genius! ANother of the GREAT losses...what would he be doing NOW???????

  • Watching us, man kind, and writing a song with the title 'Pure ignorance'...

    Peace MH

  • The true American Guitarist. Miss you Michael.

  • You are lucky. You have alot of guitarists in your country that are truly great and my country has none!

  • Thanks for the upload - brilliant!

  • Just because the structure of the song isn't formal or easy to pick out, doesn't mean the song is bad. Open your ears. This song is free and beautiful! With the background image of the tornado, this song becomes even more powerful!

  • I remember seeing Michael in concert, and he stated this song was about watching a tornado come in from the distance - the silence anticipation before the storm - the frenzy at the end bring the image of the tornado rolling right on by. This is a musical painting, and follows a visual structure more than anything. Love this piece...

  • Michael Hedges rules the galaxy

  • You guys are some bickering snoots down there...

    words ruin music sometimes...

  • I clicked on your name thinking I would find what I normally do...somebody talking shite but can't play. All cowboy hat and no cattle, you know what I mean? So imagine my surprise...you DO play. A YouTube first for me!

  • your an idiot. its not him. its michael hedges. he's dead and doesn't have a youtube account

  • actually, this song starts out fairly disorientated and without without structure for a reason. we all silently anticipate the awkward rhythm to come.

    durrh.

  • I actually stumbled upon this artist as well, thanks to youtube. I am can tell you that I'm glad that I did. I will have to do some research but I am almost certain that he is quite the pioneer. Certainly impressed.

  • He was an adventurer in his world and did not let the status quo be his guide. A great artist with a great legacy left behind for the rest of us.

  • hedges is the master. i've seen him about nine times as well. for years i couldn't listen to the music because his death affected me on a deep level. it hurt me. he is so good to watch and admire that words are useless. his legacy is amazing and those that have come after have only ripped off his techniques but lack in soul and creativity. hedges has all. i miss you, michael hedges. you helped shape me.

  • I know what you mean - I missed seeing him play, but was an ardent admirer of his. I have almost every note of all his albums memorized, and it nearly killed me when I heard he'd died. All i can say is thank god for YouTube - his memory will live on.

For now I have his albums and my own memories.

  • music is supposed to be positive. why must people be negative? he's expressing himself through his music. be respectful. this is actually the first time i've heard of michael hedges and i'm glad i stumbled upon this video.

  • Ive been a fan of Hedges since about 1985, seen him live 9 times. While I dont consider this a great song in general, its a great musical recreation of the chaos of an approaching tornado, which is what he wrote it about. Please dont let this tune of Mikes be the tune you gauge his playing and composing by. As a starter I would suggets his first 4 releases, Breakfast in the field, Aerial boundries Watching my life go bye and Taproot. You might just find a great tune in one of them.

  • the actual track breakfast in the field, although not too technical, is sheer genious. i seldom have more fun playing something on guitar. ragamuffin is one of his most creative pieces i think, from aerial boundaries.

  • thanks for the info, and I think he is amazing reguardless.

  • michael hedges was a great man and great musician, why are people arguing on the comments for his videos? grow up you silly children and listen to the music

  • I really agree w/ your comment . I know you posted awhile ago, but I noticed alot of youtubers engaging in these moronic exchanges about alot of talented artist's . I expect better , but am usually disapointed . peace

  • its good to hear from someone who realizes the prodigous skills of hedges as much as i do. there was never nor will there ever be better music.

  • Better than what? There is "better" when it comes to music, and putting it that way reeks of arrogance and snobbery.

  • no there isnt, go listen to s-club 7 or something :)

  • Well, there are actually some people out there that likes to listen to Britney Spears also... Allthou I can't say I fully understands the works of Spears. Think I prefer Hedges.

  • He really is from another planet..

I do wonder what masterpieces he's composing now.

    R.I.P Michael Hedges.

  • OOkalm, "Is" there any songs he has that are GREAT..?

    You can do better?

  • i heard this man was a GREAT guitarist... he uses alot of harmonics and i said i grow uninterest... i wanted to hear something great that this guy apparently has done! ffs... did i say i could do better dumbass?

  • Dear dumbass, You said, and I quote,"Is there any songs he has that are GREAT..? " IS there any songs? IS there? IS?

You need to go back to school. IS?

  • whatever... "IS"... well... considering English is my 3rd language out of the 5 i speak... yes... i should've corrected that before posting, but my mistake.. i thought a smart guys like you would figure it out... i guess i was wrong... i am looking for a great song of his, GREAT.. and this in my opinion isn't one of them... did i make my self clear.. d-u-m-b-a-s-s

  • mate, if u cant respect this as great u might aswell drown tbh

  • How about ALL of them. He was soulful innovation personified

  • his way of playing guitar is starting to bore me... is there any songs he has that are GREAT..?

  • 00kalm, you're a dipshit.

  • hahaha! Dipshit? right...

  • 00kalm.... You're an ignorant twirp. Can you give me an example of a song that is great? He,Michael Hedges, states in interviews that the guitar to him is a medium for music ."I'm not trying to play the guitar. I'm trying to play music." Get a grip and get a life. Go and play with your PS and leave music appreciation to those who appreciate music.

  • Get a life? pfft who says that anymore asshole? you dont know shit about me, so...

  • I recently learned that he died, so young. Thanks for all of these posts G.Soul. What a sad loss.

  • worst guitar dance ever haha. amazing player tho

  • If you are into Hedges, check out the videos on my profile.

  • Left me speechless!

  • holy shit

  • oof, the audio's outta synch...

  • hard to call him just a "guitarist" more like a sonic painter or something

  • you should checkout Phil Keaggy

  • yes! he is great, so great!!

  • It started slow, but got freaking intensely awesome at the end! =D

  • i love this track. its so creative and builds up loads!!

  • Genious!

    God of 6 6 strings.

    Special musical soul.
