i got this camera last October, its zoom is good, and have taken some very good pictures on holiday, but indoors it does not focus well with flash, and flash is poor.

3" screen with a 460000 pixels. That is amazing!!!!!. Easy to use. Smooth zoom. Face detector, 1280 x 720 video. Is better and cheaper instead of camcorder. I love my TZ5!!!! If you go to buy one, buy too a screen protector.

The TZ7 was just released. I think the diferences are: 10mpixels, 12x zoom, and they placed a mic in the center top of the camera to avoid cover it. Same display, same video resolution. I don't know if the audio quality is better. We must wait a little to see what will say the new buyers of the camera.

I took my TZ5 back to the shop from where it was original purchased.

They spent some time with it and told me that there was something wrong with the camera.

As they didnt have another they gave me a refund.

However I still think the camera has a very weak flash and numerous reviews of the TZ5 would support this.

Perhaps Ill get another or wait for the TZ6 ;-)

I received a Panasonic Lumix TZ5 for Xmas.

Extremely weak flash.

Poor focus and choice of shutter speeds in manual & Ai mode.

Lots of noise, especially at low light levels.

Over softening of pictures.

Poor colour reproduction.

Over exposure & contrast in bright conditions.

Mic & tiny flash in poor positions (your finger covers them).

Tripod mount poor position (falls over when using a mini tripod).

I've gone back to my old Pentax Optio 550 as the TZ5 was ruining too many photos.

In a respected review site this model TZ5 was considered as the best choice, among compact non DSLR cameras. The best thing I like about this camera is the 10x optical zoom and HD video mode, although it does have oversoftening of pictures, and some noise for high ISO levels.

i just got a lumix cam almost identical to this one (10mp) and the pictures come out awesome, very clear. even though sometimes u have to take a few pics before its fully focused ( but I zoom alot like 13X or more, so that might be why :-D ), but the red eye reduction doesnt seem to work at all, i am not sure if i am doing anything or if it's just the cam???

I just bought the TZ5 I am so happy with it, the pics we take in the dark come out real good and clear, the colour is fantastic and so is the zooming. I bought an extra battery from ebay just in case i need a back up on holiday for $5 and it's good quality. I even found a 16 g memory card.

ffffdsa: i have this camera and i'm happy with all except in the video mode, it is very easy to loose focus but regains back quick. When i shoot video in 720p HD mode, i've to move the camera very very very very slow so it doesn't loose focus but it still does.

dual89, i'm an airline pilot for United and was on a recent trip to europe this summer. i stayed their two weeks with my Panasonic Lumix TZ5 and took over 800 pictures. all i can tell you is you CAN'T go wrong with this one, mate. Panasonic is a great brand for cameras. It wasn't too big for me, so you shouldn't have much trouble. enjoy your trip!

I can answer from my vantagepoint if you don't find this out of order. It will work fine with a standard card, really, but I did opt to get an 8gb Sandisk Extreme III, which is faster than the camera itself needs or can make use of. The advantage of the faster card here, is faster data transfer into your computer from the card. The TZ5 in HD video mode generates huge files, so a fast card gets the data into your computer a lot faster than a standard card.

No idea whose customer service rep you are referring to - Panasonic or another company's customer service... Can't be ours as we can 100% assure you that it last a lot more than 20mins battery life. We were using it before and after producing this video for an extended period of time without any problems. Manufacturer's specifications on their website states that battery life (approx.) 300 pictures (CIPA Standard). I suppose if you take 300 pics in 20mins... you may have a problem with power...

Then it states "this does not affect the performance or the quality of the camera".

Lumix DMC-TZ5K is the TZ5 in black colour... the K at the end denotes the colour of the item - K stands for BLACK, S for Silver, etc.

We just got the TZ4 how much difference is there in the TZ4 and the TZ5?

There most apparent differences are... the resolution of the TZ5 is higher at 9.1 effective mp compared to 8.1 on the TZ4. Also the LCD for the TZ5 is 3 inch (460k pixels) compared to TZ4 at 2.5 inch (230k pixels. There are other minor differences like weight, burst speed, etc. but these may not influence buying decision in most case.

The TZ3 has been a great camera to sell in my store but not easy to restock once sold out. We just got the TZ4 model and I was surprised there is the TZ5 as well. We may get that one as well but I wish I had more 'play time' to check out all the new models out this year. Thanks for your videos they are a big help. :)

Also, the TZ4 doesn't do full wide angle. it just cuts of the top and bottom in wide screen mode to make the photo seem like it is 28mm.
